Status: Yep. Another Sykes story.

They Say

Decide for yourself.

Emerson was up before ten the next day which was hard to believe, but she feared it had something to do with the fact that she would be seeing Oliver soon. Once she was dressed and ready she decided to go into the kitchen to make some coffee. She really didn't expect to walk in and see her sister, Heather already up.

"Why are you up so early?" The blonde girl asked her, glancing at the clock to notice it was barely ten o'clock.

"Could ask you the same since you didn't come home."

"Mhm, and you left with Oliver Sykes wonder what that makes me think."

Emerson rolled her eyes, "Shouldn't make you think anything. He brought me here."

Heather smirked, "Right, well be careful with him. Girls have a problem saying no to him which you can see why."

"Nothing happened though."

"Yet. I know how he is, Em. Trust me. Just be careful. He's good looking and he knows it."

"He really isn't that bad..." Emerson mumbled feeling the need to defend the poor guy.

"I know he isn't, but he always gets what he wants. Remember that." She responded pushing away from the table.

Emerson didn't bother to speak as she poured herself a cup of coffee.

"Are you hanging out with him today?" Heather asked and Emerson sighed, "Yeah."

"Right..." The girl snickered before leaving the kitchen. She didn't want her sister to be right about him, but what if she was? What if he was just fooling her with this overly sweet, gentlemen like behavior?

She shook her head refusing to let her sister get to her already. She leaned against the counter sipping on the hot liquid before her phone began to vibrate in her pocket. She was startled back to reality and pulled it from her jeans glancing at the unknown number flashing on her screen. She answered it hesitantly as she put it to her ear, "Hello?"

"Hey, are you ready?" She heard Oliver's familiar voice fill her ears.

"Oh. Um yeah."

"Great, I'll be there soon."

The pair said goodbye and Emerson quickly sat her cup in the sink and went to go grab her bag from her room.

"And when are you going to be back?" Heather asked as she stepped into the room.

Emerson shrugged, "Is Matt busy or something?"

Heather laughed, "No, just trying to keep an eye on you."

"I'm fine. Oli isn't going to kill me."

"Never know..."

Emerson rolled her eyes as the doorbell rang, "Whatever. That's him."

"At least he's coming to the door for you." Heather said a bit surprised and Emerson eyed her as she headed to the door.

Heather opened the door to reveal Oliver who simply grinned once he noticed her.

"Hey, is Emason ready?"

"Mhm. I don't know what you're trying Oliver Sykes, but just know I'm watching you." Heather warned before Emerson pulled the door open and stepped out.

Oli laughed, "Right, well have a lovely day."

Heather rolled her eyes and closed the door immediately.

"So, she doesn't like you why?" Emerson asked and Oliver laughed, "She does."

"She acts like you are a womanizer."

Oliver rolled his eyes, "Do I seem like that?"

"I don't know what you seem like."

Oliver sighed as he opened the car door for her, "Want the truth?"

Emerson bit her bottom lip as she nodded and he hesitated on speaking.

"One night I got drunk and ended up shagging her friend who apparently liked me already. Well of course, I wasn't looking for a relationship and the girl was heart broken so yeah, it was a very shitty thing to do, but like I said I was drunk. Eva since then she has thought that of me I assume."

Emerson nodded and he sighed, "I'm not like that, Em."

"It isn't a big deal." She said softly and he rolled his eyes, "Ok, well get in."

Oliver closed the door for her and headed to the driver side. He didn't know why he was so determined to prove to her that he wasn't like that. Afterall, he barely knew her.

"So, we have a show tonight, you should come. Ya sista will be there."

"Then I'll pass."

Oliver laughed, "Oh come on. It'll be fun."

"I'll think about it."

He chuckled, "Ok. Fine. You think about it then."

"I will."

The pair pulled up at a restaurant Oli had decided on before picking her up.

"Italian food?" Oli asked as they got out of the car.

"Fine with me."

He chuckled and placed his hand on her lower back leading her to the door.

"So how long are you here for?" He asked once they got settled at a table.

"I don't know. However long it takes me to sort everything out." She responded with a weak grin as she messed with a napkin on the table.

Oli nodded, not bothering to look away from her.

"It'll all work out." He offered up some words of endearment and she looked up at him with a smile, "Hopefully."

"It will."

"Sound so confident."

He shrugged, "I'm confident that you can do whateva you want."

Before she could speak their waitress appeared to take their order. Emerson couldn't help but glance at Oli when it was his turn. Heather wasn't right about him. She could just feel it. He was probably just misunderstood and how could she fault him for that? If anything she felt his pain.

Once the waitress disappeared, Oliver turned his attention to the girl, his mind racing with thoughts on what he should say next.

"So, do you have a girlfriend Mr. Sykes?" Emerson boldly asked. A grin hit Oliver's lips as he rested his colorful arms on the table.

"Would you think it would be appropriate for me to take a girl out to lunch if I did?" He asked with amusement now lighting his eyes.

"Not at all."

Oliver couldn't help but laugh, "Exactly! So, no, I do not."

She nodded and he quickly spoke, "Do you have a boyfriend?"

"Do you think it would be acceptable for me to go to lunch with a guy if I did?"

Oliver couldn't help but laugh as he relaxed in his seat, "Quiet yet witty. I can appreciate that."

Emerson grinned, "So is that your assessment of me from our first meeting?"

"A bit yeah."

"And anything else?"

Oliver shrugged, a grin still plastered on his lips, "I dunno, Arizona. You seem a bit innocent to me as well."

"Innocent how?" She asked a blush now lighting her cheeks and he chuckled, "Innocent in every way possible I assume."

"I really don't know how to take that..."

Oliver laughed and removed his elbows from the table, "It's not a bad thing. It's a bit lovely I must admit."

A blush immediately hit her cheeks again and she was thankful the waitress appeared with their food before Oliver noticed it.

"So are you coming tonight?" He asked once they were alone again.

"Yeah...I think I will."

"Good." He responded with a sincere smile. He wanted her there. For some reason he wanted everyone he knew to meet her and see if they felt as warm and content in her presence as he seemed to.

Once lunch was over and Oliver had to force her into letting him pay, he escorted her to his car and headed back to where she was staying.

"So, I'll see you tonight?" He asked once at the door of her sister's apartment.

She nodded with a grin, "Yeah."

"Brill. One more thing, don't let Heatha put stuff into yeh head about me. I'm not saying I'm a saint, I'd just ratha you make up yeh mind about me yehself."

"Ok."

Oliver smiled, "Ok. See you lata."

The pair said goodbye and she swiftly went inside knowing Heather was probably waiting anxiously to ask her how it went. Although, it was nothing more but grabbing lunch with a friend...at least she assumed that's what it was.

"Well?" Heather asked sitting on the couch with Matty of all people.

Emerson groaned, "Well what?"

Matty smirked, "Well, I mean, you went on a date with Oli..."

"I did not. We went to lunch as friends. The end."

"Right..."

Emerson rolled her eyes and Matt spoke again, "So, you coming tonight to the show?"

She nodded as she fell into a chair debating on what she should wear later.

"Because Oli asked..." Matt chimed in and she threw a pillow from the couch at him causing him to laugh.

"I'm kidding! Relax!"

"I mean, why is it so hard to believe we're just friends? Nothing more."

Matty chuckled, "Oliver doesn't have friends that are girls, love. Well, he does, but something tells me they give him more than interesting conversation..."

"Well, trust me, he won't get that from me."

Matty laughed, "Good luck with that."

Emerson rolled her eyes, "Whatever. Shouldn't you be leaving?"

"Ah yes, you would be correct. I'll see you two tonight." He responded before kissing Heather and moving off the couch.

"I'm going to go get ready." Heather spoke and Emerson nodded as her sister left the room. Emerson refused to listen to the two of them. It really wouldn't be fair to Oliver if she did so. She wouldn't want anyone judging her by what people said so she figured she would at least give him a chance to prove otherwise.

Once the girl's arrived at the venue where the show was being played at, Heather called Matty as she led Emerson to a back door where she assumed the guy was going let them in. It wasn't long after Heather hung up with him that he appeared with a smile on his face.

"Hey, follow me." He responded grabbing for Heather's hand.

Emerson observed the area as she walked slowly behind the two. They reached a door and Matty didn't hesitate in opening it and urging them inside. Once in she assumed the boys inside made up the rest of the band. She had never even seen them before so she wasn't sure.

"You've already met Heatha, but this is her sista Emason." Matty said. To the blonde boy on the couch who had a beanie on his semi-long hair.

"Oh hey, I'm Lee and this is Matt and Jona." He said pointing over to the two near him. The other boys waved and said hello which she returned. They all seemed nicer than she had prepared for.

"And I'm Oli, nice to meet you." She heard and turned around to see the familiar guy. A grin hit her lips as Oli smirked, "Hi."

"Hey."

"Glad you came." He responded and she nodded, "As you should be."

Laughter escaped Oli's lips, "Of course. Well, you are just in time because we are about to go on."

"Good timing."

He chuckled, "Yeah...good timing." He spoke softly, his eyes never leaving her.

"Come." He said grasping her hand lightly.

"Where to?"

A grin hit his lips and he didn't respond just pulled her from the room. He didn't bother to drop her hand just led her to the side of the stage.

"You get to stand right here. Don't want you to get scared in that madness." He spoke referring to the crowd now filling the venue.

"Or get hurt really...it gets pretty brutal."

"Oh don't think I can handle it?"

Oliver chuckled, "Pretty much."

She shot him a look and he grinned, "Yeh too cute to get hurt, love. I mean, I'd hate to have to hurt some guy if they pushed you or something."

A blush hit her cheeks and before he could speak the guys started to appear.

Oliver gave her a wink before walking onto the stage. Emerson crossed her arms as she watched the guys intently. Her eyes seemed to stay on Oliver more than the others. She bit her lip as she watched him laugh with Lee.

Heather was right about one thing, he was hard to resist.
