TWELVE

She's there again, at the park with the little boy. A few other cars are there so I duck down in my seat.

I catch snippets of parents' conversations until her voice slices trough the air.

"Ready or not, here I come!"

I raise my head in time to see her walk around a tree. She checks under picnic table even though the boy's in plain sight, crouching behind a pole on the swing set. She starts walking in the opposite direction of him then abruptly turns back and points at him. He laughs, stands up, and runs. She easily catches up and swings him into her arms. I feel a pang of jealousy. He gets to touch her. He gets to feel that soft skin against his own.

I wonder who he is. Her brother? Maybe she babysits him.

I'll know soon. I'll know her from the inside out.
