Amber Eyed Angel

Chapter 20 - Informative conversations

He had seated himself at one of the kitchen chairs and was watching her as she put away the things they had bought. Se had a very thoughtful look on her face and as time went on a little frown formed on her brow.

He dipped into her mind to find out what was causing her frown. He almost laughed when the only thing that was running trough her mind was a variety of foods.

She looked up at him. She looked at him with a puzzled expression on her face.

“What do you find so amusing?” She asked.

“You. Do you always give so much thought to what you will eat?”

She laughed and he found that he liked it when she did.

“Not normally but I’m hungry and not really in the mood to cook.”

He had already thought of a suggestion for their evening meal, but he was of a mind to see whether she would be willing to continue with her friendly banter of earlier.

“I may have a solution to this predicament.” He told her.

She smiled at him, but there was a slight weariness in her eyes.

“And what do you suggest.” Her voice held curiosity and he could not keep the smirk from his face.

“I’m afraid my memory is not so good, it might take some encouragement to remember.”

He watched as his words registered with her and he saw a little light of understanding flash in her eyes. She moved behind him. He held still, waiting to see what she intended to do. He heard her move and then felt her hands on his head.

“Well, let me help you. A nice head massage might just jug your memory.” Her voice was soft and tinged with a note of amusement.

Her fingers gently slipped into his hair and she started massaging his scalp, now and then raking her nails gently against his scalp. She was very skilled at this and he couldn’t help but lean into her fingers while closing his eyes in enjoyment.

He could sense that she was looking at him and though he enjoyed what she was doing he wanted to see how far she would take their little game.

He moved fast turning and catching her eyes with his smirking as he saw her startle at being surprised by his move.

“As lovely as this is I’m afraid I’m still having trouble quite remembering.”

He tried not to smile, but he felt the corner of his mouth inch up just a little. He wanted her to kiss him and he knew that she was aware of this fact. He watched her thinking over his words and saw a spark of defiance in her eyes. This would be fun, she wasn’t giving in too easily, but he knew that she wanted to.

“Well I don’t know what more I can do to bring back those memories.” The look of innocence on her face would have fooled anybody else, but he was the god of Lies and he was on to her.

He laughed low. He didn’t miss thshiver that went trough her and felt proud that could effect her so.

“Oh I think you do.”

He leaned closer to her stopping only when their lips were almost touching. He could feel her breath on his lips and he knew that she would feel his as well. He watched her struggle with herself the amber of her eyes getting darker with each passing moment.

With a slight sigh she finally leaned towards him and connected their lips. He smiled in triumph and kissed her back. She may put up a good fight, but he was a master manipulator and whether she wanted to or not he would bend her to his will.

He let his lips harder against hers, biting down on her lips and soothing it with his tongue. She opened her mouth willingly and he took advantage dominating the kiss and ravaging her mouth; exploring it fully.

The little sighs and moans as he let their tongues tangled. He finally pulled away and had to laugh at the dazed expression on her face.

“I seem to remember something called take-out. Barton thought highly of it and it requires no effort on your part.”

She was shaking her head and laughing. She seemed even younger when she laughed. She was so very young compared to him; a mere infant and he almost felt ashamed that he was using her so.

He forced the sentiment away, he wanted her and he would have her. He did what he wanted that would never change.

“I can’t believe that it’s the Prince from another realm, an alien so to speak who thinks of something so human as takeout.”

He smiled at her happy to have her so at ease with him. “I am full of surprises my dear.”

“That is a good idea, so what would you like to eat?” She asked.

In all honesty he did not care. He did not feel the need to eat as frequently as these mortals. He could and had in fact gone for long periods of time without any sustenance.

“I care not; I will leave it in your capable hands.” He replied.

She smiled and nodded moving to the telephone and placing the order.

“It won’t take too long, would you like some tea or coffee while we wait?” She asked.

He sensed that her uneasiness had returned. He was aware of her inner struggle. She was starting to relax and do as he wanted but she still did not trust him. She was smart to not trust him.

“Some tea would be nice.”

She turned from him and he watched as she busied herself by making them tea. She seemed to be thinking of something. He could have just looked, but he was willing to wait and see what she would do.

She handed him his cup and motioned to the sitting area.

“Let’s go and drink this in the sitting room.”

He made himself comfortable in the chair that he had made his own and waited for her. They had been quite for a while when she took a breath and spoke.

“Would you mind telling me more about your magic?” She asked.

Her request had caught him off guard. What motive could there be behind her question?

“Why do you ask about this?” He asked.

“I’m curious. We don’t have true magic here and from the little amount of time that I’ve known you I already know that you practice magic that is far from the tricks the magicians of earth do.”

He was watching her closely, trying to see whether she was lying, but all he saw was a genuine curiosity. She was genuinely curious about his abilities and he sensed no deception in her. He relaxed and nodded his head.

“What would you like to know?”

She relaxed as well, giving him a small smile.

“Are there many in Asgard who practice magic or is it something that only a few can do? Are you born with the ability or is it like a skill that can be developed.”

Her question was once again not what he had expected.

“Although many on Asgard have the ability or talent to do magic it is not a skill that is widely practiced. Magic is not deemed as a battle skill and therefore warriors are not encouraged to practice it as it is seen as less valorous to use “tricks” in battle.”

He could not keep the bitterness from his voice. His powers had never been appreciated. It had always been Thor’s strength that was praised.

“It is mostly practiced by our healers and some few sorcerers. Very few are born with magic in them but those that are need to be trained to use the magic or else they can cause great harm as they tend to be very powerful. Magic can be learned but there has to be a natural affinity for it. This is mostly done by manipulating the magic that is all around us but they can never completely master all the intricacies that make up the art.

He was looking at her intently, trying to judge what effect his words had on her. She seemed to be thinking on his words.

“I can’t believe that magic isn’t more widely used in battle. If you can hide your army as you can make yourself invisible then you would be at a great advantage and it would definitely cut down on unnecessary losses.”

Her words pleased him. He had often thought the same. What use is winning a battle if you had to leave so many on the battle field. He smiled at her.

“To the ordinary Ǽsir such action would be dishonest. To hide and attack so would be the way of the coward.”

She shook her head frowning as she did so. She seemed to agree with his view on this subject.
After a bit she looked at him again.

“Were you born with your abilities or did you just have natural talent?” She asked.

“I’ve always beenable to do magic; it is as much a part of me as my hands. It is in my blood. I was told that the skill manifested itself shortly after I was born.”

She smiled. She had known that that would be his answer, he could see it.

“If training in such matters are not encouraged for warriors how did you get training?”

He laughed bitterly.

“They had little choice but to supply me with training, I needed to learn to control m abilities or else I might have injured someone without intending to. The had only intended to give me enough training to gain control, but I soon found my own way to magic and mostly gained my knowledge myself.”

“Do you think that some of our mortal magicians could learn to do real magic?”
He couldn’t help but laugh. He had once watched an earth magician and knew that they only relied on deception.

“I have seen some of your magicians and they have no sense of magic at all, they depend on trickery and deception. I have sensed magic around some mortals, but they seem oblivious to the magic.

She nodded her head. He was enjoying their conversation. Her questions were not what he would expect and she was interested in what he said. It was not often that anyone listened to him with so much attention. He had no need of his silver tongue to keep her attention at all and he found that refreshing.

“Many cultures have shamans or witch doctors, do you think they do magic or is it also just trickery?”

He nodded his head. “These i know actually tap into the magic of the world around them. Some have even been able to walk the hidden and dream paths to find their way to Asgard. It is quite a feat as these are dangerous and even trained sorcerers will not venture on them.”
Her eyes widened with surprise and she leaned forward in her chair.

“You mean they actually go to Asgard?”

“There have only been two mortals in the histories that were able to make it physically to Asgard, the others were only able to travel via what you would call astral projection.”

She frowned in concentration.

“That is when you project you mind or spirit away from your physical body. In essence only travelling spiritually while your physical body stays were it is.”

She was looking at him and he nodded, giving her affirmation. He had not known that she was aware of these things.

“I’ve heard that that can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing.” She continued.

“It is not a task to be taken lightly; if the connection with your physical self is severed then it would mean your death. There is also danger when you stay away for too long, the connection weakens as the physical body weakens and it will become more and more difficult to return.”

“Do you travel physically or only in astral form?”

He smirked. “I am able to do both; much depends on the situation. Astral is the best for observing without being seen.”

It had been something that he had used on many occasions to find out what his brother was up to or to sneak up on someone.

She smiled at his words. “You would like that; you enjoy sneaking up on people and scaring them.”

“Why did you choose to scare me when you first came here?” She must have been thinking back to his initial contacts with her. Before he could answer she sat up straighter and looked at him wide eyed. “Did you use magic on me to make me sleep?”

He had wondered how long it would take her to think of that. He gave her a smug smirk, not intending to answer as he had heard someone approaching the door. His keen sense of smell told him that their food had arrived.

“I do believe our food has arrived.” He told her.

She looked at him in disbelief and walked to the door whilst shaking her head. He heard her moving to the kitchen and decided to follow her. She was busy putting some form of Midgardian food on plates.

She turned around and he saw her jump as she saw him behind her. He almost laughed at her startled expression.

“Really can’t you make a noise?” She asked.

He could hear her heart beating fast. He had not been trying to sneak up on her, he naturally walked stealthily. He was not about to tell her that though so he smirked at her.

“Where would the fun be in that?”

He reached out for one of the plates and looked at the food on it. It was some sort of bread with various foodstuffs on top of it. Everything was covered by melted cheese.

She smiled as she watched him and he looked at her enquiringly.

“This is pizza and it tastes a lot better than it looks, try it.

She had picked up a piece and bit into it. She was watching him closely, waiting he knew for his reaction. He carefully took a small bite so as to get a taste of it. Although it tasted far different from what he was used to, it was admittedly good.

“It does indeed taste better than it looks.” He affirmed.

She moved to the table and took a seat and he followed her. They concentrated on the food not talking. He was watching her though enjoying the sight of her and simply being in her company.
She seemed to be at ease now, perhaps it was the fact that he had not threatened her coupled with the fact that they had been having a civil conversation for once.

Her behaviour towards him puzzled him though. She should be trying to escape, but yet she was not. She seemed to have accepted that he would not let her go, but instead of crying or screaming she had compromised. He knew that she wasn’t completely fooled by him and that she still had reservations about his motives, but she was keeping her word.

Even when he had thought that she had been fooling him only to escape he had been wrong. She had returned of her own free will. He would have thought that after her humiliation at his hands she would be unwilling to be near him and yet she was here with him. He didn’t understand her at all, but he wanted to and that was a frightening idea.
