The Poet Sings

"You know what we should do?" Brooke asked with a giant smile on her face.

"What?" Ryan responded, completely into the other hockey game that was taking place.

"Pierce your ears!"

"Yeah, okay," he agreed, then finally thought over what she said. "Wait, no!"

"Yes, it'll be fun!" She ran upstairs to her jewelry box, grabbing the package of male earrings she had bought the other day. They were silver and big, not to big though.

"Okay here."

"Why do you have to pierce my ears?" Ryan asked cautiously. As he held them in his hand, he bit the inside of his cheek. He wanted to for Brooke, but his teammates would all make fun of him. And wearing a helmet and earrings does not work out great.

"Please, it'll be so awesome. You'll look sexy."

"So I don't look sexy now?" He scoffed.

"Well.." Brooke pretended to think it over. "Okay, just let me, please!" Ryan agreed and Brooke thought over how she wanted to do it. Then, the brunette burst out laughing. "Should I do it like in Parent Trap? Where she warms up that needle and-"

"No," Ryan laughed. "Just pierce it like you would."

Brooke shrugged and brought the earring to his ear, trying to find the exact middle of his ear. Without warning she stuck it through his ear and put the back on it.

"Did that hurt?"

"Oh, you're done already?" Ryan smirked.

Brooke climbed over him and quickly finished up that ear. She insisted that he look in the mirror and tell her what he thought. Ryan touched it and twirled it around. Never thought he would have his ears pierced in his life. That just wasn't his style.

"So do you like it?" Brooke was nearly jumping on the couch when he came back in the room.

"It's alright, but do I have to keep it in?" He whined slightly.

"Yes! Otherwise it will close up and we have to redo it. Oh, and make sure you twist it or it'll get infected."

Ryan rolled his eyes in a teasing way, then grabbed her wrist and pulled her to his chest. He loved the feeling of holding her small frame. She was just so small and gorgeous and he couldn't help but want to hold her every second of the day.

They sat like that for a while, just enjoying being in each other's embrace. Brooke lifted up her head, and combed through Ryan's hair with her fingers. Then let her hand trace his face as he slowly closed his eyes. It was moments like this, the closeness, that just got to him and he had to soak everything in.

Brooke pushed herself off of him and bounced to the kitchen. She grabbed two waters then tossed one to Ryan as she got back to the couch. They talked for a while, but then Ryan had to leave for practice.

"Hey do you want to go out tonight?" Ryan asked over the phone. "It'll be our last date since I have to leave for home tomorrow morning."

"Yeah of course," Brooke smiled. "Where are we going?"

"It's a surprise."

"Of course," she laughed. He told her what to wear and everything, then the two said goodbye to each other.

Just as Brooke was finishing putting on her make-up, the door bell rung and caused her to groan. Ryan wasn't suppose to be there for another ten minutes. She opened the door, but saw no one standing there. Her head twisted side to side, but she couldn't find the person who rung the doorbell. She rolled her eyes and was about to close the door when a folded piece of paper caught her eye.

So I've seen you found my note. At 7:00 I want you to go outside. You'll see your transportation then. Have fun, see you soon. -Ryan

Brooke laughed. He can be so cheesy at times. The clock said 6:50 so she still did have ten minutes until she had to go outside to see what Ryan had planned for her. Once she was dressed in a pair of nicely fitted skinny jeans and a white flowing top, she made her way out to the end of the driveway.

There sat a black limo, and the driver waiting to open the sparkling door. He smiled his perfectly straight teeth at her as she climbed into the limo. She was expecting Ryan to be in there, but he was no where to be found. As they drove, she couldn't help but ask,

"Where are we going?"

The man laughed, "oh, I can't tell you that. Strict orders."

Soon, they pulled up to this large building and then Brooke noticed another note sitting beside her.

Hello gorgeous. Bring this note to the worker that's at the front desk. He'll tell you everything from there. Only a few more minutes.. -your lover, Ryan

The driver smiled down at her as she got out. He lead her up to the door- which she figured out it was a hotel- and then went back to the limo. Brooke walked up to the desk and awkwardly put the note out in front of her.

The man smiled and pulled out a room key. "Twentieth floor, room 2017."

She thanked the man and stepped into one of the elevators in the lobby. As it went up, she twirled the bracelet in her wrist around anxiously. The doors opened and she managed to find her way to the room. One knock was all it took before the door spung open and Ryan stood there in a dark red shirt with jeans on. He smiled at her then quickly ushered her inside the hotel room.

He actually got a pent house for them. It was huge with a patio where the table was set up and dinner was going to be out there. The rooms were in the upper part of the pent house. There also was a private pool on the patio.

Ryan also had a chef cook anything they wanted. Both of them got steak. Once they had eaten, Ryan pulled a little black box out of his pocket. When Brooke saw it, she nearly choked on the wine she was drinking. That caused Ryan to chuckle.

"No, it's not an engagement ring or anything. It's actually like a promise ring. You know, I'll be going back home and doing training camps and everything over the summer, but this basically symbolizes that we'll still be together."

Brooke blushed as he slipped it on her finger. "This is absolutely gorgeous, Ry," she gushed. "We'll always be together."

He smiled and leaned over the table for a kiss.

"Now let's go swimming!"

"But I don't have a suit."

Ryan smirked and went to the bedroom and came back down with a bag in his hand. He pulled out a slinky bikini and handed it over to Brooke. "I'll go get changed in the bathroom, you can change in the room."

They were splashing in the water when fireworks started to go off. The two looked up in the sky as colors burst in each direction. It went on for a few more minutes, then stopped.

"I wonder what that was for," Ryan wondered out loud.

"Yeah, me too. It's so pretty here," she turned her attention to the buildings around. Then got out of the pool and stood by the edge of the balcony. "I love the city, don't you?"

Ryan came up from behind her. "Cities are always pretty here," he wrapped his arms around her exposed torso. "But of course, not as beautiful as you."

Brooke rolled her eyes at the comment he makes about every other day. But this time felt different, she felt something. Then, she realized, she was in love.
