Catfish

Twenty-Six

Jimmy wandered around the house to the backdoor, grabbing the key from underneath the mat before forcing his way into the house. Brian had yet to return any of his phone calls, and refused to open the door, "Brian!" He called but got no response. Instead, he got a text from his wife.

Are you at Brian's? She asked and he quickly replied claiming he had just gotten there, but had yet to find him, Keep him there. Jordin is on her way.

Jimmy smiled, almost wanting to leap up the stairs to tell Brian that she was coming, but didn't. He didn't want to get his hopes up. For all he knew Jordin could be returning to grab her stuff then leave, never to speak to either of them ever again. Instead, he walking calmly up the stairs until he found himself in front of Brian's shut bedroom door.

He raised his hand and knocked, "Brian?" He called but heard nothing, "C'mon, Brian. Open the door," He tried but got nothing. Instead, he pushed the door open and sighed. Brian was under the covers, Metallica playing like a low whisper from speakers across the room, and several beer bottles littered his dresser.

"You've got to be kidding me," He rolled his eyes.

"Shut the fuck up, Jimmy," Brian snapped, pulling the blanket further over his head.

"You're being ridiculous, Brian. You look like a teenage girl who just got dumped after prom," Jimmy stated, but Brian just huffed in response. Jimmy was quick to dispose of the bottles, open the curtains for sunlight, and spray some Febreeze to get out the alcohol smell before opening some windows.

"Come on, Jimmy. Just leave me alone," Brian groaned as sunlight hit his eyes.

"No, Brian. This isn't how you're supposed to handle things," Jimmy snapped and as soon as he said that he could see a familiar car pull up outside. It was Zack's car, and he was dropping off Jordin. Jimmy said nothing to Brian.

"What the hell am I supposed to do, Jimmy?" Brian sat up, completely unaware that Jordin was walking up the front steps of his house.

"You pull yourself together, first of all," Jimmy noted.

Jordin entered the house quietly, shutting the door behind her. She sighed, seeing Brian's keys, wallet, and shoes by the front door. She stepped forward after waving goodbye to Zack and looked into his office, seeing he wasn't there. He had to be in his bedroom.

She started up the stairs, her heart beating fast as she heard a familiar voice. A voice recognized to be Jimmy's. She slowed her pace, seeing Jimmy standing in the doorway of Brian's room. She stopped around the corner, waiting to see what they were talking about.

"How am I supposed to pull myself together, when the one person who kept me together is gone?" Brian asked, his voice weak. Jordin could feel her heart flutter just at the sound of his voice, even if it wasn't as strong as it usually was.

"You go out and get her, Brian!" Jimmy exclaimed.

"I don't know where she is!" Brian protested, "I've been calling Michelle all night and all morning. Leana's ignoring my calls and so is Val. All they're telling me is that she's thinking to herself. How am I supposed to find her?"

Jimmy sighed, "What are you going to do then?" He asks softly.

Brian felt tears form in his eyes, "I-I don't know," He whispered, "I can't do anything without her, Jimmy. She's everything to me. I can't eat or sleep. I can't even play guitar to take my mind off her. It's only been a day and I feel like a part of me died."

"You love her," Jimmy noted.

"Of course I love her!" Brian yelled, "I love her more than anything else in this world! Hell, if she asked me to grow my hair out and call myself Cameron, I would!" He yelled and Jordin found herself smiling, "I'd give anything... anything to have her back."

"You know you messed up, though, right?" Jimmy asked.

"I know," Brian's voice cracked and Jordin could feel her heart break as she inched closer to the room, "I was so scared that I'd lose her, though. I was scared that I was everything she didn't want, and she'd move on. I'm not Cameron and I'm not Jason."

"Yeah you are, Bri," Jimmy smiled, "You are Cameron. You just don't look like him."

"But I fucked up, Jimmy. I should have told her the day she walked into the studio. I knew I should have but..."

"You were scared, I know," Jimmy nodded.

"What if she doesn't love me anymore?" Brian asked, his voice so soft Jordin had to straight her ears to hear him clearly.

"Then you move on," Jimmy sighed.

"There is no moving on," Brian shook his head, "She already has my heart. I won't be able to find someone else. No one will ever be her."

"Then you're just going to have to wait for her."

"I'll wait forever if I have to. I just need to have her back," Brian stated, "I love her too much."

Jordin looked down at her shoes, stepping forward and around the corner. Jimmy moved out of the way, leaving so he was standing just outside the room, enough to peer inside. Brian's head was down and wasn't even aware of her presence until she spoke, "Is that true?" She asked.

Brian looked up, his eyes wide as he saw Jordin in front of him. She looked so sad as she saw what a mess he was, and he could see the tears in her eyes.

"Yes," He whispered, "How much did you hear?" He asked.

"All of it," She replied, "Brian, do you really feel that about me?" She asked.

"Yes, Jordin," He stood up and tossed the blankets off of him. Jordin tried to focus her mind anywhere else besides his perfectly sculpted chest, "I'm so sorry, Jordin. I'm sorry for lying and I'm sorry for dragging you into this mess. But I love you, more than anything in the world. Everything I said as Cameron was completely true."

"All of it?" She asked.

He nodded, "The part where I said one day we'd be together," He whispered and she felt a smile tug on the corner of her lips, "The part where I said we would find a house with an ocean view. I'd come home from the studio and we'd take long walks on the beach.

"And the part where we have a dog that would sleep on the foot of our bed. We'd stay up late watching movies and in the morning we'd play music as the two of us got ready. And when we'd get home we'd argue over who's turn it was to cook dinner, and who's turn it was to wash dishes," He smiled.

Jordin found herself smiling widely through her tears. She suddenly wondered why she hadn't seen it before. How could she have not seen that Brian was really Cameron all along. All along she thought she was trying to replace Cameron with Brian, when really she was just falling in love with him all over again. She never stopped loving Cameron, because she had finally found him. He never left her side. And, technically speaking, he did find her. And he kept his promise.

"Jordin," He stepped forward, "Can we please start over?" He asked.

She shook her head and his heart dropped, "No," She whispered, "I want to start exactly where we left off," She smiled.

She ran across the room, launching herself into Brian's arms. He lifted her up so her legs could wrap around his waist and she didn't waste any time in pressing her lips to his. She wrapped her arms around her neck, taking in every single piece of him. This was real. Brian was in her arms after a year of waiting, and she couldn't be happier.

Brian pulled away breathing hard as he looked into her eyes, "Is this even real?" He asked, a wide smile spreading across his face. She giggled and nodded as tears filled her eyes, "Aw, Baby, why are you crying?" He asked as he brought a hand up to wipe a tear away.

"Because I'm happy that you're finally with me," She whispered.

"I am too."

He leaned in and pecked her lips softly, letting her just idly play with the hair on the back of his head as she put her face in his neck. He held her, too afraid to let go. As if she were going to leave him again if he didn't keep his arms around her forever.

"Ahem," Jimmy coughed from the doorway and they turned around. Brian put Jordin down and she smiled over at him, "Might I just say, thank God this happened because I can not put up with a heartbroken Diva while recording," Jimmy stated, earning a glare out of Brian.

"Hey!" Jordin yelled and reached forward to slap his arm, causing Jimmy to hiss, "You ever keep a secret from me again, I won't hesitate to punch you in the gut, alright?"

"Really?" Jimmy asked.

"Really," She stated firmly and Jimmy hung his head low, but nodded. She smiled and gave him a hug before returning to Brian's side.

"Now, Jimmy, if you'll excuse us. We have some things to tend to," Brian smiled.

"Oh, sexy time?" Jimmy wiggled his eyebrows.

"Not yet," He looked down at Jordin, "First we gotta figure out how we're going to fit all her stuff in my house," He winked and she smiled, standing on the tips of her toes to peck her lips to his.

"I love you," She whispered.

"I love you more."
