Salem Falls

Zayn & Maggie

It had been a few weeks since Zayn’s battle with Naveed, and Maggie finally felt like everything was getting back to normal. She could walk to school without looking around every corner, and she could finally sleep through the night without waking up. It took a long time, but she finally felt safe again, and she owed most of that to Zayn.

She didn’t care that everything that happened to her had only happened because of him. She didn’t blame him for any of it, because none of it was his fault. In the end, he had been the one to save her, and that was all that mattered to her.

A knock came to Maggie’s door, and she knew immediately who it was. She had been expecting him, but not so early.

“You’re early,” Maggie said as she opened the door, finding Zayn’s mischievous smile on his face.
Zayn chuckled, shoving his hands in his pockets. “I know, but I wanted to help you.”

“Oh, no.” Maggie held up her hand so he couldn’t come inside, because he was trying to sideways step around her and into the living room. “I told you, I’m cooking dinner for you.”

“That doesn’t mean I can’t help.” Zayn smirked at her, running a hand through his perfectly done hair. His smile widened as he peeked around her and into the kitchen. “Do I smell something burning?”

Maggie groaned immediately, because dammit, he was right. The stench of burning chicken stung her nose, and she raced into the kitchen without another word to Zayn, leaving the door wide open.

Zayn stepped quickly inside, taking her lack of an invitation as an invitation of its own, and walked quietly into the kitchen, smiling as Maggie struggled to get the unsalvageable chicken out of the over.

The poor girl groaned as she set the crispy dinner on top of the oven, smoke still billowing out of the pan.

With a smile on his face, Zayn snuck up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and startling her slightly. She jumped for a moment before realizing it was him and letting herself fall backwards against him.

“It’s alright,” Zayn whispered into her ear. “I’m sure it was going to be a lovely dinner.”

Maggie sighed, tossing her oven mitt onto the countertop. She spun herself around, so she was face to face with Zayn, and looked into his honey eyes with a small pout on her face.

Zayn couldn’t help but laugh at her, because she just looked so adorable, and he pressed a light kiss against her lips. As soon as their lips parted, she let her head rest on his shoulder while his arms wrapped around her waist.

She had tried so hard to cook for him, and Zayn absolutely hated the look on her face when she failed, so he couldn’t help but try to fix it for her.

With a flick of his wrist, he whispered a spell so quietly that even Maggie couldn’t hear, and when he was done, the chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned, as if nothing had ever gone wrong at all.

“Well, would you look at that,” Zayn said, spinning Maggie around with a smile on his face. “Looks like you didn’t do so bad after all.”

Maggie’s eyes fell on the chicken, which was now perfectly done and… edible. She didn’t know whether to be mad at him for always trying to clean up her messes or happy that he always tried so hard to make sure everything in her life was as perfect as it could be.

Looking into Zayn’s eyes, which were filled with a light that shone just for her, she decided on the latter and sealed it with a kiss.
