The Forbidden Fruit

Peach dresses

The day of Grace's wedding had finally arrived. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining brightly in the blue sky, the wind softly passing by. Tree leaves were moving in the background as birds sang as they flew from one tree to another. The chairs were filled with many people. I nervously stood alongside the other bridesmaids, worrying about the steps. I couldn't quite remember them well.
I felt a hand tap my shoulder and I turned to find George standing by my side.
"I will be watching you from my seat Elise," he said as he kissed my forehead, like he always did, "I would have loved it if I had been by your side however."
He looked at Darius, smiled, and bowed his head, "if you will excuse me."
With that, he walked away. I looked at Gwendolyn alongside the other girls, comparing the flowers they had in their baskets. They were all so cute. I watched George walk to his seat. He still treated Darius with respect and from my few encounters with Darius, he was still unaware of the fact that George knew of our secret that was never to see the light of day.
The church parson walked to the stand with a bible in his hand. The choir began to sing as the flower girls took their stand behind the bridal party. We did our steps, moving in perfect harmony and unison. Some people murmured and others just sat quietly as they watched us. When we reached the front, we walked to separate seats. The males walked to the left, the females to the right. We did not seat.
Next followed Alejandro. He looked ever so smart, his eyes glistening in the sun. It was clear that he was happy the day he had been waiting for had finally come. It was evident in his eyes.
The moment we had all been waiting for came. The choir was replaced by a harpist Darius had specially hired for the day. A song Grace had loved as a child was played as everyone stood up and looked back. Everyone except Mrs Rutherford. She remained seated in her seat, her face forwards. The flower girls began to throw flowers on the carpet as Demelza and Grace walked down the aisle. Demelza was dressed in a peach dress as well, but it was different from that of the bridemaids.
Tears were flowing down her cheeks as she walked towards him. Alejandro could not remove his eyes of her. He was looking at her as if she was the only person there. He was looking at her the way George looked at me. Was this love?
I spotted Lord Haizen standing alongside everyone. I hid my displeasure with a smile. I was not going to allow him to ruin the day for me. After all, I had not told George of him. He was only going to complicate everything. Furthermore, I did not understand what business he had here. Alejandro despised the man. Was he going to brew some trouble? I looked at the women beside him. They were all the mistresses who had formerly been Darius' maids. How I wished Darius could just eliminate him like he did the Count.
I sat down with everyone as we watched the ceremony begin. I was just waiting for the kiss.

I may have lied. I still have more chapters to go. Two more, okay people. The next and the next one. I hope so anyways. I hope the pace is not too fast though. I'm trying to progress as slowly as I can, but quickly...if you catch my drift ;) Thanks again for reading. Comment, subscribe and recommend. Will mean a lot.
