Secrets & Lies

Chapter 3

I knew that this was going to make me want to run. I knew it. Walking inside didn’t seem like a good idea, anymore. As soon as I stepped foot into that hall, everyone fell silent. Which, I can understand completely. I mean, it’s not everyday that a random girl decides to waltz into the Great Hall. Whispers started to pick up as I looked around the vast room, not quite sure where I was supposed to sit. Biting my lip, I finally spotted a table full of students who bored the same colors that were on my robe.

Making my way over, the whispers started to pick up at an even more faster pace. I could here them, and it was taking every fiber of my being not to do something.

“Who is she?”

“I’ve never seen her.”

“Why is she going over to the Slytherin table?”

“Dude. I’d like to bend her over this table.”

Finally reaching my destination, I took a seat next to a very attractive boy with brown hair, and took in my surroundings. I was also completely aware of the fact of how the entire table that was supposed to be my “house” was looking at me like I was a leper.

God, this was going to be a blast.

“Excuse me, but are you sure that you’re in the right house?”

I looked up at the speaker, and saw that a very shrewd, pug like girl had asked.

My temper flared up, knowing full well that she was just trying to be rude.

“Oh, I’m positive. Slytherin, right? Although, I’ve heard that the more attractive people are sorted into this house, but you’re obviously here, so maybe I’m mistaken.”

I watched in pleasure as her face twisted up, and she instantly turned to her group of friend’s to talk about me.

Smirking, I knew that I had gotten my point across. I wasn’t one to be messed with, and the sad part is, that little tiff with the pug girl, was only a smidgen of what I could really do. I’ve always had temper, even when I was little. Sometimes, I remember even making my mom cry. She would tell me that it wasn’t my fault, but that I just reminded her of my father.

“Hey, don’t worry about Pansy, she’s always like that.”

I turned, and saw that the boy whom I’d sat next to, was speaking to me.

“I’m not too bothered by it. It’s not like she bit me or anything, so I couldn’t possibly get rabies.”

With that comment, the boy let out a hearty laugh.

“Yeah, I’m positive that you should be in Slytherin. I’m Theodore Nott, by the way. May I ask what your name is?”

I smiled.

“Adelynn Rose.”

“That’s a very pretty name, it matches your face,” he said with a smile.

I couldn’t help but laugh, this kid was actually being nice.

“So, are you a transfer this year? I’ve never seen you around, before.”

At his question, I quickly averted my gaze. What was I going to say? I couldn’t really lie, but I couldn’t exactly tell the truth, either.

God damn’t.

Apparently, I was screwed either way. I’ve never had to talk about my past, before. Or had to come up with something as simple as answering his question. This is why, I don’t like people. People are nosy, and it’s not like this kid was being nosy, he probably was just asking a genuine question. After all, I was a new kid.

Seeming to sense that I didn’t really want to answer, he put his hand on my shoulder in a kind manner, and squeezed.

“Hey, babe. It’s okay. We’ve all got secrets, I understand if you don’t want to share your’s.”

I looked at him, gratefully.

“Thank you. But yes, I am new this year.”

I really did hate hiding thing’s, but I was good at it.

“Ahh, I figured. What, with someone as gorgeous as you, I would have been bound to see you around, before.”

And, we’re back to hitting on me. I couldn’t help but smile, this kid was getting on my good side. I could actually tolerate him, unlike the rest of what seemed like civilization.

“Of course she’s new, you bloody git. Anyone with a face like that, I would have definitely already had.”

I turned to look at who had said the rude comment, and came face-to-face with piercing steele blue eyes.

“Excuse me? I don’t think that you would’ve already “had” me, thanks. I like to keep myself classy,” I snapped back.

The boy seemed amused, and was wearing a grin. I will admit, he was quite appealing. He seemed well toned, and had a chiseled facial structure, topped off with a shock of blonde hair.

“Interesting. I like a little competition. What was your name? I didn’t catch it.”

Oh. This kid was one of THOSE guy’s. Obviously, he thought that he ran the show, got whatever he wanted, and didn’t have to pay a price.

He was in for a rude awakening, especially with me.

“That’s because I had no desire in telling you, nor do I plan on competing with you. Trust me, darling, you’re not my type.”

I smirked, hoping to make him back off. Much to my dismay, it did nothing.

“You’re a little fiery, aren’t you, love? And, I believe that it was Adelynn, so you’re out of luck with me not knowing.”

Slimy git. He must’ve heard my name when I was talking to Theodore, and then played dumb.

“Leave her alone, Malfoy.”

I looked over, and saw that Theodore had spoken.

Once again, I was begining to like this kid more and more. I felt like him and I could even be friend’s.

“Shove off, Nott. I wasn’t aware that I was speaking to you,” Malfoy said with a sneer.

I scoffed, bringing his attention back to me.

“Did you say something, love?” He asked.

I almost gagged at how sickeningly sweet he was talking to me.

“No, I didn’t. I was just absolutely mind blown over how much power you think that you execute. From my standards, you’re nothing my a little rich kid, who gets whatever he wants from mommy. Am I ringing any bells?”

Theodore started laughing, and Malfoy shot him a look that could kill.

“Listen here, Adelynn. I don’t know who you think you are, but nobody talks to me like that. I am Draco Malfoy, and you will regard me with respect. If you don’t, I’ll personally make sure that you learn how to. Got it?”

I couldn’t believe it. This kid actually thought that he was better than me, better than everyone. And then, he honestly thinks that he can scare me by posing a threat? No. Not happening. I could practically feel my anger reaching a boiling point.

“Loud and clear. Now, let me make my point known. I don’t take shit from anyone, especially a little prick like you. If you would like to think that you’re better than myself, go ahead. I will proudly knock you off of your pedestal. Furthermost, if you ever try to threaten me again, I’ll make sure that it will be your last.”

By this point, I hadn't noticed that the entire table had fallen silent, as well as the majority of the tables around us. Granted, I didn’t really care.

Malfoy looked at me, and I saw several emotions flicker through his eyes at once.

Fear, understanding, curiosity, and oddly enough, admiration.

Then, he smirked.

“Don’t worry, babe. I’ll have you come around, soon enough.”

I opened my mouth to say something more to him, but chose to stand up from the table.

Well aware that everyone’s eyes were on me, I stalked out of the hall, not bothering to lightly close the doors behind me.
