It's Been a While

Hello Again

“Alright, thank you for the ride, I’ll make sure to come in and see one of your shows,” I said to Tania and Mama. They made obnoxious kissy noises towards me before speeding off back to the airport.

The house looked more or less the same. I mean, it was held together better and the grass actually looked healthy for once, but it was still the house of the Chemical Romance. I adjusted the bag on my shoulder before finally sucking it up and going to the door.

“Hello?” It was Gerard who answered. His hair was no longer the fire red the internet had led me to believe, but a nice, normal brown. “Uhhh….”

I frowned as best I could with the amount of paint caked on my face.

“It’s nice to see you too,” I snapped. I didn’t drop everything and spend four hours on a plane to be ogled at. I got enough of that. “Now please, let me in so I can use your shower and get this crap off of me. I desperately need a nap, too.”

“Becca?” He finally asked.

“No, it’s the Grim Reaper. Yes, Becca,” I replied.

“You look… different.”

“Can I talk to Lindsey?” I was on much better terms with her since I’d left.

“Yeah. Yeah, hang on.” I walked into the house as he went upstairs to look for her. Inside looked completely different. It was painted cheerily, to say the least. There was art all over the walls, and a play pen was set up towards a corner. Empty of a small child, but still containing blankets and stuffed animals.

Someone knocked on the door and since Gerard was still busy, I figured I could open it.

“Becca?” It was Natalie, who didn’t look at all surprised to see me like this. “Never would’ve pinned you as a Columbia, but I guess it works.” There was a tall man behind her, carrying bread and bags of cheese. “This is Aiden. Aiden, this is my sister Becca.”

“You sure look happy to be here,” he mumbled from behind the food.

“I’m not that excited. My face is painted into perpetual elation. Gerard went upstairs to look for Lindsey and all I want to do is shower and get out of these clothes, is that Jillian?” I asked. She was toting a child around.  A child that looked incredibly like herself.

“Becca! Dom, say hi to your aunt Becca!”

“Kinda funny how we all showed up now, isn’t it?” Natalie asked as Aiden started putting things away in the kitchen and Jillian made her way into the house. Lindsey came down the stairs and immediately picked up Dom, greeting everyone and then bringing me to the bathroom where she showed me where the makeup remover was. I thanked her profusely before finally turning back into myself and dressing to look like a half sane person.

“Becca, sorry I didn’t recognize you right off. It was just not what I was expecting. You know, your room is still your room, so you can lie down there if you need, and the guys are coming later so that should be good.”

“I’m making grilled cheese, Becca!” Natalie called from the kitchen. Huh. We were being normal. How strange.

“Right. Nice to see you all, but I’m going to go sleep for a few days or so.”

“We’re going shopping for bridesmaid dresses,” Jillian told me. “So you either get up or we dress you like a mannequin.”
