"Blessed" with a Curse

Seventeen.

My mom found me…she tried to hurt me and take me back...Austin tried to save me...she shot him and killed him…Austin came back to life…he lost his ability to see the spirits of the undead…

I could only remain sitting up in bed, thinking about everything that happened in the past two days.

I could have lost Austin forever…what would I have done then…?

I’ve been with him for about a year…and now I can’t imagine my life without him…

The sun barely shone through the blinds of the window, allowing small streaks to light the floor and wall.
It was early, and I couldn’t go back to sleep. Austin was sleeping next to me, snoring softly.

I couldn’t help but smile a little.

“Morning.”
I turned my head to see Kellin standing in the middle of the room, smiling.

“Morning…”

His smile faltered a bit when he looked at Austin.

“I almost forgot that he couldn’t see me…”

My heart ached a little.

“I’m sorry…”
“It’s not your fault. I guess it was just meant to be…I guess it makes it easier when I leave.”
My eyes widened.

“What?! You’re leaving?!”

Austin turned a little, but he didn’t wake up.

Kellin nodded. I bit down on my lip.

“B-But…what about Austin? He loves you…! He needs you…!”
Kellin shook his head.

Austin turned in his sleep again, spoke my name softly and wrapped an arm around my waist.

Kellin’s smile was a little bigger.

“He doesn’t need me anymore. He has you, Alan.”

I felt the blood rush to my cheeks.
“I-I—”

“Don’t say anything. You know it’s the truth.”
He looked behind him for a second, then turned back to me.

“Before I go, I want to thank you. You pulled Austin back together when I couldn’t. You made him feel happy with his life again. You rebuilt his desire to live, and I’ll always be grateful to you for that.”

He took a step away.

“This is goodbye, Alan. And once again, thank you.”

He gave me one last smile before he disappeared.

I sat there, speechless.

I thought I ruined everything…but…I ended up fixing something…?

“How long have you been up…?”
Austin’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

“I don’t know…about an hour…?”
He sat up slightly to look at the clock.

“It’s still early…come back to sleep with me?”

He held out his arms towards me.
I gave him a warm smile and nodded.

His arms wrapped around me, and once again, I felt safe.
I felt warm.
I felt loved.

“I love you so much, Austin…”
“I love you too, Alan.”

And that was it. I wasn’t afraid anymore.
I was with Austin, and that’s all that mattered.
