When I Was Your Man

It was a Saturday morning. And considering how Alex had gotten home so late the previous night, he wanted to sleep in more than anything. But when he heard feet running up the stairs and his door being thrown open, he knew that sleep wouldn't be an option right now.

He opened his eyes, slowly, hoping to not see what he thought he would see when he opened them. But, of course, luck was always against him.

"Zack, can you seriously not let me sleep?" Alex said in a groggy sleepy voice. He glanced at his alarm clock and wanted to punch the brown haired boy. It was only 11! Way too fucking early.

But Alex felt his anger melt away as Zack climbed into Alex's bed and placed his head on his chest, snuggling into the boy. "I just wanted to see if you were okay! We were worried considering we didn't hear from you for the rest of the night."

And despite how tired he was, and how much he just wanted to SLEEP, he found himself fucking grinning at the thought of Rian and their 'date' last night. It was perfect. It made Alex smile and his heart basically jump out of his stomach every time he even thought of it. The other boy was so perfect. So stunningly beautiful. It made Alex just want to explode.

But instead he bit the inside of his lip to wipe the smile off his face as much as possible. "Well" he paused, not exactly sure how to tell his friend of yesterday's events. "Rian kinda took me out to eat yesterday" He felt the smile creep back onto his face as he opened one eye just to see Zack's reaction.

Alex almost barked out laughing when he saw the way Zack was looking at him. His eyes were wide and his jaw was agape "Oh my fucking god! You're saying that, Rian Dawson, that really fucking hunky, and just gorgeous basketball star took you out yesterday?"

The younger boy nodded sheepishly.

"Holy fuck Alex that's amazing!!" Zack screamed and Alex couldn't help but giggle.

Alex and Zack continued to talk about the date and how sweet and nice Rian was. How he made Alex feel special. And wanted. Zack sat contently as Alex told him every single detail about the date.

As Alex continued to babble on and on about the date his phone began to vibrate. He recognized the number as the one Rian had given him last night at the Dairy Queen. He looked at up at Zack with panicked eyes. "Oh my god! He's calling"

"Fucking pick it up dipshit"

Alex giggled slightly before sliding his finger across the phone to answer it

"Hello?"

"Hi Alex" Rian said through the phone. His voice sounded happy, like usually, and Alex couldn't help but smile at it. "I was, uh, I was wondering if you would like to maybe go on with me again? Maybe see a movie?"

Alex looked at Zack with wide eyes. Holy shit he couldn't believe this. "I, yeah. I would love to! I'll be ready in about 30 minutes."

"Cool. I'll pick you up around 12:30 then. Bye, Alex"

"Bye" And with that Alex hung up. Looking at Zack, he opened and closed his mouth a couple of times. Searching for the words to explain what had just happened and why Rian had just called. "He just asked me out on another fucking date zack"

Zack began to jump up and down on the bed and Alex followed his lead. "Holy shit Alex!!! He likes you! He likes you!" Zack screamed.

And that deflated Alex's mood a lot. He stopped jumping and sat down on the bed. "I don't think so Zack"

In Alex's mindset he continued to think about everything wrong with Rian liking him. There was just no way that this perfect human being could even want Alex. Alex was also pretty sure that rian was completely straight. It didn't fit. Of course Alex liked the boy. And he wanted the boy to like him back. But it just didn't seem that way. He could not see Rian Dawson liking him. He wasn't anything special. And he wasn't worthy of being liked by such a beautiful human.

Before Zack could argue though, Alex hopped up off the bed "I'm going to take a shower" He muttered and walked to the bathroom that was conjoined to his room.

After Alex showered he blow dried and straightened his hair. He wanted to look good. Even if Rian didn't like him, he might as well look nice while being with him.

Alex exhaled and opened the bathroom door to find Zack sprawled out on his bed. He couldn't help but smile at his best friend. "I'm going to leave my mom a note" Alex said as he looked through his dressers for clothes. He settled on black skinny jeans that made his ass look perfect, his favorite Blink 182 shirt, blue beanie, and black high top converse.

His mother had been working a lot ever since Tom had died. She liked getting her mind away from everything, was Alex's best guess. The only time he saw her was at the night times when she was asleep, and in the morning right before school. And even then his mom said nothing to him. She kept to herself, working long and hard hours as a nurse. It seemed as though she didn't really care about anything since both Alex's dad and Tom left. Her son was the least of her problems and it had been that way since 2 summers ago.

At 12:30 exactly, Alex got a call from Rian saying he was outside waiting for him. As soon as Alex hung up he rushed down the stairs with Zack following behind him.

"Hakuna matata" Zack said to him as he opened the door and Alex couldn't help but chuckle and roll his eyes at him "I'm serious Alex. You might not think Rian likes you, but I don't want you to stress. No worries. Hakuna matata. okay?" Zack smirked at Alex and Alex smiled back.

Leaning in for a hug he threw the door open and saw Rian leaned up against his silver car, smiling his beautiful smile.

As Alex approached him, he gestured towards Zack. "This is my best friend Zack"

Rian smiled and held out his hand to shake Zack's "nice to meet you. I'm Rian"

The curly haired boy took Rian's hand and shook it firmly. "Take care of Alex" he said with a smile before hugging Alex once again. "I better get going. I'll see you tomorrow, Alex"

The blonde nodded and stepped into the car as Rian held the door open for him.

"Ready?" Rian asked as he revved up the engine.

Alex buckled his seat belt and nodded. "ready."

"That movie was terrible" Alex said, giggling. They had decided to go see some bullshit zombie movie. And it turned out to be so bad that instead of being scary it was just really funny.

"Yeah it was pretty bad" Rian let out a small chuckle before starting the car and turning the radio on to a soft comfortable volume. "I know this really nice cafe that we could go to" Rian said after a little while and Alex just nodded. Because, to be honest, he really didn't want this day to be over. Rian was being so nice to him and it just made Alex so happy.

After a couple of minutes of comfortable silence Rian laced his fingers with Alex's, keeping one hand on the wheel. It literally took everything in Alex to not choke because of how surprise he was.

"I like you Alex" Rian began. the blonde boy glanced his way and Rian was just smiling so big. It almost made Alex's heart completely stop in his chest. "I like you a lot. And I would like it if we could continue this thing we have going on now"

Rian stroked Alex's hand with his thumb and Alex just nodded frantically. He honestly couldn't believe this was happening.
