Fear

Second Chance

Londyn awoke in silence. It was eerie to Londyn. The sound of the drilling finally came to a halt. Londyn smiled happily and thought this was the best sleep she ever had since arriving.
She rolled her body and met a black cargo pant leg.
Londyn lifted her gaze.
Bane laid right next to the girl reading. Bane eyes lifted from the novel to stare down at her.

"Good morning" Londyn chirped rolling away to hide her beaming smile.

"Did you sleep well?"

Such a odd question to ask Londyn thought. Londyn turned her head and gave him a small nod.
Bane eyes crinkled and shifted his attention back to the novel in his hands.

"Are you still interested in training?"

Londyn smiled "Yes"

Bane nodded once. "I just need to change and get ready" Londyn said skipping in the bathroom.

Londyn closed the door and now faced the mirror. She met her green eyes and couldn't comprehend what was happening to her.
Yes, Londyn was completely aware how wrong her attraction was increasing for the mercenary.
Maybe it was because he was the first man in years that showed her any emotion.
Londyn lifted her shirt and her scarred glistened in the light. She ran her fingers over her abdomen. Her healed index finger was now bent slightly than the others.
Bane saved Londyn but also broke her.
Londyn frowned slightly then turned away from her reflection. She quickly changed into a pair of cargo pants and a pblack shirt. Londyn did her morning routine.
As she stepped out she saw Bane leaning into the doorway ankles crossed. Bane nodded and led her into the tunnels.
Londyn skipped to his side and peered up at him.
Bane eyes crinkled telling her that he was smiling.

"How was your late business meeting?"

Bane brows furrowed "It is going smoothly" he told the girl.

Londyn nodded "Who are you in business with?"

Bane shook his head slightly. Londyn rolled her eyes and looked away from him.

"It's nice to share things" she mumbled.

"It does not concern you"

Londyn crossed her arms and glared at the floor. Bane was simply amused by how childish the girl can be.
The pair walked into the sparring room. Londyn watched as two men sparred. Bane led her to the matted wall and leaned against It. Londyn watched the men lift there legs aiming toward each other.

"Hey"

Londyn gaze lifted and saw one of the men were talking to her.
Londyn shoulders tense beside Bane.

"What?" Londyn asked her eyes narrowing.

"Come join us" they both said.

Londyn laughed nervously. The man raised his brow. "What is the harm in trying?" The man with black hair said.

The man was older than her and much more larger than her.

"I don't know.." Londyn trailed off.

Londyn peered up at Bane.
Bane stood in his place calmly.
Londyn nudged him softly. Bane lowered his gaze and his eyes met hers.
She raised her shoulders and widen her eyes at him.
Bane simply nodded.
Londyn frowned and pushed herself from the wall.
The man smirked and held out his hand as Londyn approached.

"Michael" he informed her. "I already know your name" Michael smiled.

Londyn smiled and shook Michael hand. Michael partner trailed out of the space.

"I'll go easy with you" Michael promised.

Londyn smiled and nodded as they backed away from each other.
Londyn glanced at Bane who was watching her with calm eyes.

"Come forth"

Bane watched as the girl hesitantly stepped toward the man. Bane chest rumbled at the sight of her sparring with another man.
The man lifted his arm and swung out toward the girl. She ducked out of the way smoothly. Bane suddenly felt proud of her in that moment.
The girl was making progress.
The girl was dropped onto the mat as the man kicked her calf. Bane inched off the wall subconsciously.
She quickly got up more graceful than she ever was. Londyn grabbed hold of the mans arm. The man quickly rested his hand on the girls neck and gave it a squeeze.
The girl drove her elbow into the mans chest and twirled away from him.
Bane saw anger in the mans eyes.
The girl seemed to be finished to Bane as she was stepping toward him.
Quickly the man reached for her and collided his own elbow to her chin.
The girl winced at the sudden pain.
Bane watched in pure amazement as the girl took hold of the older man arm and spun it toward his back. The girl lifted it not knowing the bone was slowly breaking.
The snap was heard in the room.

Londyn jumped back covering her mouth "I am so sorry"

The man let out a harsh scream. The man arm flung toward her but it was caught mid way.
Bane stood in front of girl. Bane stared at the mans hand and twitched his wrist causing another scream to escape the man lips.
The man had a broken arm and a broken hand. The man held no use to Bane any more.
Londyn tensed behind Bane.
Banes massive frame blocked her view of the two.
Londyn heard a crack and the man dropped to the floor.
She gaze fell up toward the ceiling.
Londyn started to count mentally to calm herself. As she counted to thirty Londyn felt a strong hand on her shoulder.
She jumped against the warm touch and realized it was Bane.
Londyn stared at the floor and saw there was no body laying there.

"I didn't mean to -" she began.

Bane held up his hand "There is no need for apologies Miss. Jonas"

Londyn grimaced at his words slightly.

"Now it comes to my attention that you have progressed"

Londyn smiled "I try" she shrugged.

"I am very pleased"

Londyn held in her wide smile at Banes words.

"It is our turn"

Never holding back Bane lifted his hand and came across the girls chin sending her to the ground.
Londyn screamed at the sudden impact on her chin. Londyn scooted herself away but Bane stepped toward her.

"Give me a minute" she mumbled and instantly regretted it.

Londyn was lifted off ground. She was now gripping herself up in Banes arms.

"Your opponent will never stop because you say so" Bane stared directly into her eyes.

Londyn sighed and nodded. She was placed on the ground.
Bane held up his hands and gave her a nod.
Londyn began punching at his massive hands. Bane seemed unfazed at her blows.

"Could I ever hurt you?"

Bane sharply lifted his gaze to her. Bane intently thought about her words to him.
Then every possible situation flowed to Bane:
The girl leaving
The girl Escaping
Her Never smiling again
The girl getting beaten by another person.
Then the last thought almost made him wince.
The girl not breathing.
Bane realized it would cause him pain to see her dead.
Well before Bane dies he wanted her completely alive. When Bane died that's when the girl will die.
Bane could not fathom his emotion toward the girl.
So he lied to her. Bane looked her directly in the girl eyes and said.

"No"

Londyn ate the chicken and salad at Banes desk. Her dark hair wet from the shower she just took.
Bane sat at a desk holding a grey canister.

"What is that ?"

Bane turned his gaze toward the girl. "It's my supply of morphine"

Londyn nodded and glanced more closely at the canister "And you put the can in your mask?"

Bane nodded staring down at the canister.

"Can I see?"

Bane gazed at her sharply "No" the mechanic voice told her.

Londyn face fell. "I have been here for months. I believe we have formed a bond so that means in the outside world that you can trust me" Londyn rambled.

Bane gazed at her. The girl beamed at him.

"No"

"Well I am offended"

Bane smiled behind his mask.

"It's okay if you look like something out of a horror movie. I won't run away screaming" she gave Bane a wide smile.

Bane shook his head, his brow furrowing.

"I am only kidding"

Londyn found herself not at all caring what was behind the mask. She more cared about what was deeper inside him.
As in his heart.
Anyway it was more enough to stare into his eyes. Because Banes eyes were Beautiful.

As Londyn finished her food placing it on the tray she trailed over to the bed. Londyn threw herself onto the bed.
She watched him grip the canister and gracefully step away from his chair.

"Where are you going?" She wondered.

Bane held in his smile. "I must change my canister"

Interested Londyn propped up "Do you want any help?"

Bane sighed and stepped into the bathroom.

"Okay fine" she called.

Bane closed the door and locked it.
Londyn smiled and laid her head down trying to picture the face behind the mask.
Bane had high cheek bones and abnormal color eyes. He was also bald.
She closed her eyes. Then the sound of hissing filled the bathroom. Londyn turned her gaze to the closed door. She frowned wanting to see the man behind the mask.
Another moment later the door opened and Bane stepped out throwing the canister in the trash bin.
Bane gazed at the girl and a bright thought came to him.
Bane motioned his head and the girl sat up.

"Follow me"

Londyn jumped out of bed stumbling toward him.
Bane gripped her tightly.

"We shall work on your balance" he said eyes narrowed.

Londyn pulled away sharply and rolled her eyes toward him. Bane grinned behind his contraption.
They began to walk into the tunnels closely together.

"I never noticed the scar on the back of your neck" Londyn murmured.

Bane lowered his gaze "My procedure has left me with many scars"

"I have a scar now"

Her words brought a new meaning to Bane. It was as if she was telling him she was now like him.
The girl was.

"The scar is a reminder that you have a second chance"

Londyn pondered at Bane words "I was never told who saved me or from the man that tried to.." She trailed off avoiding the thoughts that came.

"It should not matter" Bane reflexively said

"I have to thank the man" Londyn reasoned.

"So thank him" Bane turned his full gaze on the girl.

"Tell me who it is that saved me" Londyn retorted.

Bane halted and kept his steady gaze fixed on the girl.
Londyn eyes narrowed at his refusal of telling her.

"The man that saved me.." She began slowly. "Was it you?"

Bane quickly nodded his head and began walking.
Londyn stood shocked and utterly confused by his reaction.

"Wait" she said running after him.

Bane felt a tiny grip on his arm and stopped as his contraption expressed a sigh.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She asked softly.

"It does not matter" he repeated.

Londyn raised her chin "Thank you for .." She thought of the right thing to say. "Saving my life again and again and again" she started saying dramatically.

Bane eyes narrowed and started to walk. Londyn grinned and followed quickly after him.

"Where are we going anyway?"

Bane lips twitched then raised his lips into a smile.
Bane lowered his gaze and locked eyes with the girl.

"We are going for a walk outside" he told her "I suspect you want to see the stars"

Well that's a first Londyn thought bleakly.
The pair exited outside the tunnels and was swarmed by the stars in the night sky.
