First Time for Everything.

one month later.

A month had passed since I found out about my pregnancy. It was now October. The leaves were beginning to change, and I was changing as well.

I was beginning to show, and my clothes were getting too tight. Every day, I was sticking my head in the toilet bowl to throw my guts up due to morning sickness. I had horrible headaches and all I wanted to do was sleep.

My parents had come to accept the fact they were getting another grandchild soon, and Amanda was more supportive than I ever thought of her to be. She explained to me what to expect when you’re expecting and even gave me advice if I asked for it.

“When will I know the baby’s gender?” I asked, sitting on my bed. Amanda was sitting cross legged in my desk chair.

“Hm,” she began, “Good question. I found out when I was pregnant with Matthew when I was about seventeen weeks, how far along are you now?”

“Hand me my calendar,” I said, Amanda picked it up and tossed it over to me. I went to what the date was, October 16th.

“According to my little pregnancy calendar, I’m thirteen weeks and a day,” I mumbled.

“Oooh, exciting!” Amanda said, giggling.
“You’re already into your second trimester! This is where you get fat and ankles begin to swell!”

I rolled my eyes and groaned, Amanda over glorified pregnancy. It didn’t matter that she had a smooth pregnancy, even with Matthew being premature. I was getting the bad end of the stick.

“I’ll be right back,” Amanda said, getting up and walking out of my room. I heard her go down the hallway and into her room. She came back up a few minutes later with Matthew.

“My little man is going to be two in February,” she said, smiling. Matthew lifted his head and grinned. He was drooling and showing off the four teeth he had now. In the past month, he had begun talking. He could say words such as “mama” or “ba-ba” and a various amounts of baby words.

“So, what do you want it to be?” Amanda asked, bouncing Matthew on her lap.

I shrugged, “I don’t care as long as it’s healthy,” which was true.

“Have you and Ethan spoke?”

“Barely,” I began, “we’ll pass each other in the hallways. In about three more weeks, I have to go in and get a paternity test done so it’ll prove Ethan’s the father,”

“Damn right you better,” Amanda said, then realizing she had cussed in front of Matthew.

Matthew started making sounds and pulling on Amanda’s hair, she sighed.

“Son, I love you sometimes but holy crap, you can be a pain.”

I couldn’t help but giggle. I stood up and took Matthew from her and kissed his forehead. He was such a cute baby, you couldn’t help but fall in love with him.

“Ahlix!” Matthew yelled, he was trying to say my name but failing. Amanda laughed at her son.

“I can’t wait until your little one Alex, you’re going to love being a mom.”

“Doesn’t he go to his dads this weekend?” I asked, shifting him to my other hip.

Amanda nodded, “yep, I hate it when he has to go on visitations. It gets so quiet in my room.”

Matthew was beginning to get fussy so Amanda took him back. I couldn’t help but cringe at all the bad moments Amanda had while being a mom.

That Friday morning, we had to drop Mathew off at his dad’s, making me almost an hour late for school. Not like I minded it, really, I liked not having to go to school and worry about whether or
not someone knew my secret. I was slowly beginning to show, but with the right jacket, I could cover up very easily.

Once Amanda signed me in, I knew I had to go to first block, which was Chemistry. Normally, I didn’t mind it, but since we were doing experiments and the smell made me sick.

I walked in and the teacher, Mr. Ross looked at me. He took my note from the office and I went and sat down at the table I had been assigned to at the beginning of the year. My “table partner”, as Mr. Ross liked to call them, was Cataleya Mendez.

I pulled out my notebooks from my bag and felt my shirt rise up.I felt my eyes widen and I jerked it down the best I could, but Cataleya saw it. Her eyes held shock while I tried not to notice.

“Miss Bunch, do you plan on getting your work out anytime soon?” Mr. Ross asked, jerking me out of my thoughts. I nodded but didn’t say anything. I knew everyone’s eyes were on me.

I was copying down the notes he had written on the board when I felt a slip of paper hit my hand. I quickly unfolded it and saw Cataleya’s cursive handwriting.

You’re pregnant?!?!?!?!??!!

Yes, I scribbled back, but swear to god, don’t tell anyone.

I pushed the paper back to her and continued copying down the notes. It wasn’t long before I got the note back.

OMG. Whos the dad????

Ethan Ryler.

When she read the name on the slip of paper, I knew I had made the biggest mistake yet.
