Life of an Hour Glass

Past

Pain— a staggering pain in her chest sharpened with every step. She grasped onto he Dads arm as he lead he down the aisle. A small smile sat on her face, while her hearts sank to the bottom of her feet.

As she was handed off to Chris, he kissed her and softly taking the pain as nervousness trying to calm her down. She couldn’t help but the whole times to tightly hang onto Chris for support, the feeling in her kneels were no longer there, she concentrated on the sun, staring deep in to the yellow ember.

Starring out into the distance, before she knew it, the vows were about to be exchanged. Lightly shaking her head, she smiled and looked at Chris and watch as the corners of his mouth lifted. She started to feel blood run back to her legs, bringing herself back to reality, she inhaled a breath.

“Carly, you once told me that you are afraid of growing old. You told me then that to grow old means to be alone, and it frightens you. But I want you to grow old, Carly. I want you to grow old with me. I want to watch the wrinkles form on your face and every strand of your hair turn white, because to me you would be the most beautiful, even when you are all wrinkled and gray. You do not have to fear being alone, my beloved Carly because I shall be with you.” He said rubbing his thumb against her index finger, staring deep into her eyes. “Grow old with me. I promise to love you faithfully, to care for you and to cherish you, to provide you with support and everything that you need, to respect and honor you. All my days left to me, I vow to spend them all loving you.”

You could hear the crowd murmur in awe, a gentle cry escaped here and there. There she stood before him, in a beautiful white gown. Her body glowed in her dress, the wind gently intertwining with her hair. A smile plastered on her face, as a single tear slid down.

“Thank you, Christopher.” Preacher John said with a smile. Turning to Carly, with a nod he said, “And your vows to Christopher?”

She bit the edge of her lip; an uneasy look filled her eyes. Then, with a quick snap she smiled and nodded. Chris raised an eyebrow of concern but she shook him off.

Closing her eyes, she began. “Because of you I wake up every morning with a smile on my face, being able to see your disheveled hair and hear your raspy voice. I knew from that moment on from the day we met at camp that you were the one, my one and truly best friend. You stuck with me through all, through the ups and downs; you were still there; to comfort and to hold. Because of you, I laugh, I smile, I dare to dream again. I look forward with great joy to spending the rest of my life with you, caring for you, nurturing you, being there for you in all life has for us, and I vow to be true and faithful for as long as we both shall live.”

“Thank you Carly,” Pastor John said, “And now for the ring ceremony.” Right on cue, little Joshua as the ring barrier and Emmalynn as the flower girl trotted their way up with rings in hand.

Grabbing the ring, Chris held onto Carly’s hand with a grin. “Carly, do you promise to love, honor, cook for, clean up after, surrender your share of the blanket to, live with the flatulence of, relinquish the remote to and with the toilet seat after until death do you part?”

With a giggle she nodded, “I do.” He placed the ring into her finger giving it a quick kiss.

“No kissing yet Christopher, hold the desires.” Chris jokingly rolled his eyes while Pastor John gave Carly a wink. “Christopher, do you promise to love, mow the lawn, change the diapers, do the dishes, relinquish the remote to and the toilet seat after until death do us apart?”

“Diapers huh?” He questioned in a teasing manner. “I don’t know about that.” Carly gave him a glare, he shrugged and nodded. “I guess it’s a husband’s duty, so…I do.

Carly rolled her eyes while shaking her head. “Alrighty then, thank you John, for the part we’ve all—“
Before Pastor John could finish his sentence, Chris grabbed Carly by the waist and pulled her in towards him. Letting their lips crash into each other, they share a simple yet passionate kiss while laughter filled the air.

Slowly breaking apart, they couldn’t help but break out into laughter. They were finally official, officially married. Grabbing each other’s hands, they started down the aisle, smiles bigger than the world.

As cheers erupted, lavender roses were being thrown into the air. With great joy, an uneasy filling fills her lungs. Looking at the ground as they walked down the white aisle, the pain in her chest came back as her breath became faint. Starting to shake her head, she looked up as everything became into one big blur.

Before anyone could acknowledge what was happening, Carly collapsed onto the ground into Chris’s arms, as shock wore everyone’s faces.
