My Head's up in the Clouds

1/1

Alex had a tendency to drift away into his imaginary world. It was something that annoyed many people around him and sometimes annoyed himself.

He would listen at first to the conversation or the lecture but then suddenly something would catch his attention, maybe it's the lady bug walking across the window or maybe it's a women talking on the phone with anger painted on her face, or his mind, which was the place he went to the most.

He drifted off into a daydream of mayhem, color and images that sometimes he didn't even understand.

No, Alex isn't a druggy who's high 24/7. Alex never did drugs he didn't like the concept and found the smell of the smoke bad and didn't want anything to do with anything that would make his mind uncontrollable, not like he could control it anyways.

"Are you listening?" Lisa asks his boyfriend who seems to be drifting off once again.

"What? Oh, sorry. Could you repeat yourself?"

Lisa was a nice girl, he liked her a lot, but he could never imagine this relationship going any further. She was a talker and she liked attention, and Alex couldn't do that. He couldn't keep that attention on one thing and he was sorry for it.

She scoffs at him and gets out of her chair.

"Alex, you need help."

Alex frowned at her statement.

Why would he need help? How could people help him? He didn't even think that this was a major problem. But sometimes he had a feeling that one day he would never learn to control his brain from drifting off into space and would never be able to stop it.

And yet again he drifts off and doesn't notice his girlfriend leaving and muttering about how much he didn't give two shits about her.

--

Alex was sitting in a café trying to finish a project that his teacher had given him about a day ago. He knew that he wouldn't be finishing it anytime soon. Drifting away involved procrastination and Alex hated that so much.

He started to type about a paragraph before his mind wandered around in his head and he started thinking about how amazing it would be to live in Hawaii, and then his mind wandered to puppies and then ice cream.

He was looking towards the ceiling and thinking about the possibility of living in Hawaii with a puppy and unlimited ice cream, and then heard a snicker.

He looked towards the direction of the noise and saw a man staring at him. He looked about his age and had dark hair that almost looked black, he had stubble on his chin, and Alex couldn't help but think he was handsome.

"I've never seen anything as adorable as that." The man says and smiles.

Alex was blushing. Did this random guy just say he was adorable? What the hell?

"I'm Jack, Jack Barakat." The man extended his hand.

Alex picked up his composure and also extended his hand out, "Alex Gaskarth." He says shaking the others hand.

It was the first time someone complimented his glitch.

--

After their first meeting, Jack didn't let Alex go without getting his number. Jack texts him a lot and asked if they could hangout, Alex wasn't a person with a very busy schedule but he had friends, and a girlfriend that was really starting to bug him, he also had work and college, but it was all good because they made plans to hang out on Saturday.

He didn't know why, but he was anxious.

--

Alex was about ten minutes early to the bar that Jack suggested they hang out in. Drinking was a different in Alex's eyes, he didn't think it as harmful as drugs. Besides, he didn't drink till he blacked out like any other normal 25 year old.

When Jack walked in he looked nice, and Alex was blushing at his mind and telling himself to shut up because he has a girlfriend, and that's not very proper.

"It's good to see your beautiful face again." the man says and Alex doesn't know what to say, so he doesn't. He stands there hoping the heat in his cheeks is not noticeable.

The night went like that. Jack would just randomly shoot compliments and would call his blanking out adorable and they drank and talked, Jack let Alex talk more and the other would listen to every word he said and it was nice to switch the roles for once in his life.

He had a smile on his face as he headed home and Jack hugged him and said see you later.

--

"So.. Who's Jack?" Rian asks with a playful smile, curiosity biting into him as he sees a cute little creep onto the other mans face every time he gets a text. Alex grabbed his phone from Rians hand. "I leave to go to the bathroom for five minutes and you're creeping in my messages?" Alex asks exasperated by the others actions.

"That's what best friends do." Rian retorts smiling.

"What's up with all those cutesy texts?" he asks after he sees Alex smiling at the texts that he received a minute ago.

"What are you talking about?" Alex asks, he's tapping away on his phone replying to something that Jack just said. Alex just really likes his new friend and thanks whoever or whatever sent him to that coffee shop that he was in, and he's thankful for his freaky ADD for making the other boy laugh and he's just really thankful.

"You guys are texting like a gay couple." Rian says, trying to read the text but Alex tilts the phone away.

"What? You're being ridiculo-"

"Oh my gush, are you breaking up with Lisa? Alex you know what goes down with girls like her.. BOOM. You're instantly the hated man of the whole female population on campus."

Alex rolls his eyes, "I didn't break up with her Rian.."

"OH THANK GO-"

"I will soon though."

And Rians expression drops from relieved to terror in a second.

"Its bond to happen Ri.. She has seriously been getting.. Well, annoying. She keeps making fun of me and want's all the attention.. I just can't deal with her."

Rian gets it and as the best friend decided that, yes, Alex's happiness is much more important then being hated by a lot of the hottest girls in his campus. He hopes to god that Cassadee Pope wont be one of them.

--

"Hey, babe!" Lisa says kissing Alex on the lips and wrapping her arms around the boy. Alex would usually find this affection to be cute and sweet but not anymore. He just really wants to unattach her and tell her to stop touching him.

She finally does let go and grabs onto his arm.

"So, what did you want to talk about?" she asks, her voice sickly sweet and Alex wants to tell her to stop because he just doesn't like hurting peoples feelings, especially when they act innocent and sweet.

"We should sit.."

The talk goes on and she sits there with a frown set on her face. Alex doesnt go to the point and he sees that she's catching on.

"You're breaking up with me?" she says deadpanning the news that Alex has taken over 10 minutes to tell.

"I.."

"Wow.. I guess I was expecting this.." then she runs away. Alex blinks towards the direction she ran, not making any move to go after her.

--

Alex and Jack have been hanging out a lot more after the break up with Lisa. He hasn't heard from her in along time, but has seen her walk by the campus. She didn't look like she had a broken heart at all. And he's pretty sure he heard that she was going out with a guy named Danny Kurily and Alex was happy for her, because right now he was having some strong feelings towards his new friend.

Jack would watch as Alex looses his attention and drifts off, he would never get angry and it was a nice feeling. All he would do is smile and just watch until Alex noticed. Then he would laugh and call him adorable and like always Alex would blush.

They met everyday and Alex loved having Jack by his side and loved everything about the other male. He wished he could find out if he feels the same way.

--

It's been 6 months since Alex and Jack met at the little cafe.

And It's been 2 months since Jack had asked Alex to be his boyfriend. Alex happily agreed and they sealed the deal with a kiss that made Alex's stomach do a 360 flip.

Alex was at his boyfriends house, they were sitting on the couch, Alex cuddled into Jacks side and smiling contently at the movie playing on the screen.

And of course he wasn't paying attention to the movie, he was too busy thinking about how amazing his life is and how much he loved every second of it.

Jack was looking down at him and he smiles when their eyes connect.

"Drifting away in your thoughts again? Your a-"

"adorable." Alex finished off laughing into Jacks shoulder.

"No, I was going to say a dork. But I guess that fits too."

Alex makes an offended expression getting his head off Jacks shoulder and pouting. "I am not a dork!" he say's.

Jack laughs, "yes, you are.." He leans down and kisses his lips, wrapping his arms around his waist and pulling him onto his lap. "But hey, I wouldn't want it any other way."

--

It's been three years and Alex had an engagement ring slid onto his finger. It was something that he didn't expect. He thought it was a normal date, and found it too cute that he took him to a meadow. They looked at the stars at night.

Jack was talking about how much he loved him and told Alex to get up. When he did, Jack got down on his knee and pulled out a ring.

Of course Alex started to cry and said yes.

They've been engaged for four months and it was their wedding day. Alex couldn't help but feel tears threatening out of his eyes, not because he was sad, it was far from that, he was happy.

"Are you ready?" Rian and Cassadee were standing there with their one year old son, huge smiles on their faces. Alex nods, smiling.

Alex's dad was waiting for him by the door, they never talked but he said he'd be here for this, and Alex was glad. He didn't want to do this without his parents, even if he wasn't close to them.

They opened the door and Alex was walking down the aisle. He was nervous and couldn't stop smiling and crying.

Everyone awed as he walked down the aisle.

He was his soon to be husband and saw the mega watt smile on his face and couldn't help but cry a little more.

Alex let go of his dads arm and took Jacks.

He started to think of the amazing life that was ahead of this. He couldn't believe that he'd marry this guy that he met randomly at a cafe and become his best friend and then fall in love. It was perfect, just like anything Alex could have imagined.

It was a dream, an amazing dream come true.

"Alex.. Alex."

"huh."

A crackle of laughs began in the crowd. He looked at the pester then at Jack, and Jack was smiling at him, not even getting annoyed that he zoned out during his own wedding.

They exchange their vows and say their 'I do's'

"you may now kiss."

Jack grabs Alex's waist and pulls him in close and attaches his lips to the others. Alex kisses back and then the lips are gone.

"Oh gush, you're adorable."
