Southern Secrets

Escaping

It took no time at all for Harry and I to become one. I was at his house, or he was in my hotel room and we were never alone. It was a kind of feeling I had never felt before, I wanted to be with him more than I wanted anything in the world. He knew what to say, how to make me smile and could read me through my eyes. He told me he loved the way my clothes littered his room and how he wished it could be that way forever. He promised he’d show me the world he wanted to create and would let no harm come to me. And at this moment in my life that was all I needed. I needed to be one with someone. I needed to be cared for and told everything was going to be okay. I needed that one person to confide in even if it was 3 in the morning and he had rehearsals the next day. He wanted to be there and I needed him to be here.

I tried to carry myself with poise. I wanted to show him grace but my southern side, more times than not got the best of me and he was okay with that. When I climbed on a table and stomped my feet to the country song I put on at the house party we crashed with a drink in my hand he just smiled and shook his head and helped me down when I was done. He was accepting of a girl he just met from across the ocean. Knowing at the end of the summer I would be back in America and he would be touring the world.

“I want you to come with me.” He would tell me late at night, both drunk and sitting too close. “I want you to be with me forever.” It would bring tears to my eyes but I knew I could cry because that was what this summer was for.

We came here to escape, to find ourselves and to make a summer that would last forever in our hearts and minds. We wanted to take away the pain that Texas brought me. We wanted everything to be okay and with Harry, everything was perfect. We had a month and a half left to make everything happen. We weren’t wasting a second of it.

I stood in front of the mirror in my closet turning and twisting trying to get every view of the outfit I was wearing. Tonight was another party, this time Niall was hosting it in honor of Emily’s birthday. It was surprisingly warm for night here in England. I was wearing a pair of cut-offs, a backless top and my favorite pair of boots. My hair was sitting in teased second day curls and hung around my lower back. I wasn’t satisfied but today wasn’t my day anyways. I put on a smile and messed with my hair before exiting my closet and making my way to the living room in search of Harry and the girls.

I found everyone gathered in the kitchen around the island. There was a bottle of fireball being poured in to shot glasses with Harry’s long fingers wrapped around it. He looked up at me a smile forming on his lips “Adalida, darling I’ve poured you a shot.” I smiled back at him making my way to the island to stand next to him.

“How many have you had?” I asked looking up at him noticing my clearly already intoxicated friends.

“I’ve been waiting for you, but them, they’ve had about three of four.” He laughed handing me the shot glass and a cup of dr. pepper. “I’m cutting them off because we need to be leaving soon and Niall has stocked up for Emily.” He held the shot up and looked at me “To George Strait?” He questioned knowing the drill.

“You catch on fast Styles. You’d fit in great where I came from.” I laughed tapping his glass then the table and taking the cinnamon shot. “Another?” I watched as he smiled and shook his head but nonetheless grabbing the bottle and pouring two more, and then two more.

I could feel the alcohol settling in my knees, Harry looked at his watched and then over at the girls dancing in the living room then back down at me. “We should probably be leaving. They’re having so much fun though.”

“Hey!” I yelled and watched as they all turned to Harry and me. “Lets go party!” I shouted grabbing Harry’s hand they all chattered and followed us to the door. We piled in the waiting car and made our way to Niall’s apartment.

The place was already packed with people celebrating a birthday belonging to someone no one there knew. Harry’s hand protectively wrapped around my waist making sure to keep me close in the crowd. Some form of English techno was playing on the speakers and I scrunched my nose at the sound. “Does Niall not know us at all?” Emily asked leaning over to me. “This shit has to change.” She said to Harry who just craned his neck over the crowd looking for Niall to fix the situation.

“It’s okay sweetie” I said patting his chest. “I’ll fix it.” I pushed his hand from my hip and ventured towards the sound of the music. There were two blond haired boys sprawled around two lazy boys next to a large speaker one was holding a drink, the other an ipod. “Hi” I said smiling as they simply stared at me. “I need to change the music.” I said as they started chuckling.

“There’s no way you’re putting the music on.” One said shaking his head looking over to the other.

“Yeah, we’ve heard the music you put on, it’s not happening darling.” The other smirked. I was already tipsy from the shots, not in the best of moods and certainly not going to put up with listening to the sound track of skins club music for the entire night.

“It’s my best friends birthday, and I’m playing the music, by her request.” I said keeping my calm.

“Nice try American twat.” the first one spoke again setting me off, I could feel my eyes form a glare and immediately look around for Harry. I turned on my heel fuming. I bit my lip pushing past the crowd of people finally finding Harry standing with Niall near the beer pong tables.

“Harry, go change the music.” I said as I approached the two.

“You looked pissed.” He said fulling facing me. “I can see it in your eyes, what happened?”

“Some fucking guys won’t let me change this shit and I don’t really feel like partying right now and one of the guys called me an American twat, whatever the fuck that means-” I ranted not even noticing the look both Harry and Niall got on their faces.

“Wait they called you a twat?” Niall said handing me a drink leaning forward. Harry stood taller puffing out his chest and getting a serious but pissed look on his face. I nodded taking a sip of the drink. “I’ll go take care of it.” Niall said slapping Harry’s back. “The usual Addy?” He asked pointing at me. I nodded and breathed a sigh of relief.

“Harry,” I said tugging on his hand waiting for him to look at me “you alright?” I asked when his eyes met mine. He nodded and put a cup to his lips.

“I’m perfect.” He said kissing my head, the music had changed and I smiled swaying to the sounds. “This stuff is really rubbing off on me.”

“That’s the plan.” I smiled to him. “I’ll get you to fall in love with the music and the drinks and in no time you’ll be following me back to Texas.”

“Oh is that the plan?” He chuckled pulling me towards him by my waist. I nodded and smiled wrapping my free hand around his neck. “What if we just go right now?” I laughed at him but his face stayed straight. “I mean I’m already head over heels for you, I literally can’t see tomorrow without you.” He said for just me to hear. “Let’s just leave.”

I looked in his eyes for a smirk to form. I was waiting for that famous Harry Styles ‘I’m kidding let’s go play beer pong.’ look but i never got it. “You’re serious aren’t you?” I asked more myself than him. He shook his head and finished his drink looking around and leaning to my ear.

“We can go anywhere you want. I’m ready when you are.”
