Black Paradise

Mara Lilith has had problems with her life. She grew up in post Civil war Alabama and from a young age was told that she was a monsterous looking child. Her drunk, psychotic father constantly made her dress like a boy to steal food and other accommodations to survive. When her father died from alcohol poisoning in 1869, she moved to her grandmother's home in Cairo, Illinois.
There she met a young union soldier named John Siler, who had served for several years during the Civil war. After only a month of knowing eachother John was sent back to his home state of Maryland. They wrote for a few weeks before they lost touch.
Ten years after that brief encounter, John's obituary was in the local soldier's death news which had been running since the beginning of the war. It mentioned that he had married a woman he had met in Maryland and had several children with her. Mara was devistated.
She found were he had been buried and visited his grave everyday for a year, digging a hole and placing a new letter around him each day.
Till one day she realized she was going to die alone.
Without someone to love or miss her.
No life.
No family.
