The Boy Who's Had Too Many Chances

Chapter 2

Pete woke the next morning with a smile on his face; although everything about his dream girl was just, well, a dream, he still couldn’t help but feel happy. He felt like he was going to find her now; then everything really would be perfect for him.

‘Pete, I really think we need to clean this pigsty up!’ Patrick called out as Pete made his way down the stairs, instantly tearing the smile away from Pete’s face.

‘Whyyyyy?’ Pete dragged out the single word to show his reluctance.

‘Well, because the record company are renting it out for us considering we were sleeping on floors before they, generously, agreed to rent us this house. The least we could do is keep it clean, you know, in case someone decides to swing by unannounced…’ Patrick tried to explain.

‘They have microphones around the house, don’t they?’ Pete all but whispered.

‘No. I just think we should really tidy up a bit. It wouldn’t hurt.’

‘Finnnnnnnne’ Pete sighed as Patrick handed him a trash bag and got to work.

Soon after Andy and Joe emerged from their bedrooms and after shovelling some food down they began what would be the World War 2 of clean ups. There would be arguments and there would be tantrums but, as Patrick stated, it had to be done.

-

Finally, after 8 hours, they had finished cleaning. The house looked almost new; with just some shoes laying at the end of the stairs. It was the cleanest they’d seen it since they moved in.

‘I think I’ll get us Starbucks to celebrate!’ Pete announced as he threw on his shoes and ran out the door. He knew each of their orders by heart now.

For Joe it was a caramel macchiato, Patrick always ordered an iced caffé mocha, Andy’s usual was a mocha light frappuccino- but he always ordered it with soy milk, as he was vegan, and Pete made sure he never forgot that fact- and Pete just ordered a simply cappuccino.

As he walked in the door of Starbucks, he groaned at the sight of the huge queue in front of him. He hated waiting in Starbucks; simply because it was a popular hangout spot with irritating teenage girls who squealed at anything.

Just as he thought about their excessive squealing he heard the dreaded sound coming from the windows. He looked over, and of course, there sat 4 teenage girls with their chocolate frappuccinos squealing at the sight of a boy, they presumably thought to be hot, walking past the window.

Pete decided if murder were ever to be deemed legal he’d target groups of girls just like that. The world would be a much nicer place without the sounds of their shrill voices echoing through buildings.

A few minutes later, he was at the top of the queue and getting ready to place his order. That’s when he saw her. It was her, the dream girl standing behind the counter in his local Starbucks.

‘How have a never seen you around before?’ Pete asked her as he reached the counter.
‘You’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.’

‘You’re sweet, a bit creepy, but sweet.’ She flashed him a perfect smile coupled with a tiny giggle that made Pete’s stomach do flips.

The girl standing in front of him had dark brown hair, so dark it was almost black. Her hair and make up was done in a 50’s pin up style but she was dressed in a Nirvana tank top and grey skinnys. She had a colourful tattoo sleeve covering her right arm. Her eyes were a pale green, like the ocean when the light hit it just right. She was shorten that Pete, which he liked, and as she smiled at him Pete couldn’t help but feel like she was the one.

‘What can I getcha?’ She asked, again flashing her perfect smile at him.

‘Um…’ Pete recited his entire order and then added;
‘Your phone number would be nice also.’

‘A bit cocky are we?’ She retaliated.

‘No actually, I’m Pete.’ He winked at her as he handed over the cash for his order.

‘Rebekah… here’s your change.’ She smiled and ushered him to the end of the counter.

Pete picked up his coffees and left the building. Although he felt defeated, he dared not show it. He knew there was something special about Rebekah and he wasn’t about to let that slip through his fingers.

-

Back home, he walked through the door and was surprised to find the immaculate house. He’d forgotten all about the 8 hours of cleaning he’d indulged in that morning.

‘Starbucks!’ He called out, and within seconds his band mates had all joined in the kitchen.

‘Soy milk?’ Andy asked as he picked up his drink and looked at the contents as though he’d be able to pick out the type of milk from the blended up ingredients.

‘Of course. Do I ever get it wrong?’ Pete questioned, and Andy gave a content nod.

‘Only with women!’ Joe quipped from the living room.

‘Oi!’ Pete called back, trying to sound offended but he had to laugh at his quick witted friend. He decided against telling the guys about Rebekah, he knew they’d laugh at him for days if he told them. So he kept quiet, sipping on his coffee while Andy and Joe fought over tv shows again.

‘I want to watch Extreme Makeover!’ Andy exclaimed trying to grab the remote control out of Joe’s hand.

‘The Rock and John Cena are going to fight tonight! Do you not understand how important this is?! We’re watching WWE!’

‘No, actually we’re watching Oprah.’ Patrick replied, taking the remote away from the two of them and switching over to NBC.

‘What the fuck dude?’ Pete laughed as Patrick contently sat and watched his favourite talk show.

‘She is an inspiration!’
