Sequel: Lookin' For Trouble

Save Yourself, I'll Hold Them Back

A Match Into Water

We pulled up in front of an old run-down apartment building in the middle of nowhere. "What is this place?" I said leaning into Ghoul's probably private space. "This is our HQ." He replied scooting nearer. I sat in silence as we pulled into a garage-like structure. Kobra sprang out of the vehicle and tripped his way to my door. He stood up and opened my door. I carefully stepped out. "Thanks, kid." He blushed as he held out his arm. I went along and took the offer. I'm not going to lie, I like Kobra. He's cute and sweet, but there's something about Fun Ghoul that just stole all of my attention. He was mysterious... Dark... He was my kind of guy. We arrived at a room. Ghoul took my arm and said "You'll stay with me... For safety." I saw Kobra pouting in my side vision. I smirked. "Thanks." I brushed passed him. "Night guys." He nodded to his fellow Killjoys. "Ummm.... Ghoul..." "Yeah?" "There's only one bed..." "Yeah... I can sleep on the floor if you want?" He asked unsurely. "No No, It's alright. We can share." He smiled out of the corner of his mouth. He's so adorable. "Okay could you fill me in on everything that's going on?" "Sure thing. Well, like I said BLI was created to market a pill that imitates the feeling of happiness." "Okay, I've got that part." "Okay, well the pills are the main way BLI employs mind control to the masses. The logo on the pill bottle shows a happy face. BLI has slogans like "We can fix you", "Building a better you", and "Everything is perfect." This keeps the citizens under their control and blind to what is really going on, hence the way the Better Living Industries logo is printed as BLI/nd." "Well, isn't that lovely... But that doesn't explain what he wanted with me." "He tries to capture any human being anywhere near Battery City that seems to be rebellious." "Oh... that makes sense..." "Why though? What did you do that was rebellious?" "I ran away from home about 3 months ago." "Oh... Why is that?" "Eh... Just family issues... I was having a really rough time. I don't really tell people about this but..." I closed my eyes took a deep breathe in and pulled up my sleeve, revealing scars. His mouth dropped a bit as he took my arm in his hands. We sat on the edge of the bed. His eyes watered a bit but he seemed to have stopped the tears. He lowered his face to my forearm and carefully rested his lips over some of the scars. He lifted his head and stared deeply into my eyes. "I understand." He whispered. He let my arm slowly fall to my lap. "We should really get to sleep. " I nodded in agreement and took my spot to the left of the bed. "I'm sorry..." I mouthed to myself. I closed my eyes and drifted into a restless sleep.
