"Jack, go to sleep. It's too early to get off together; besides, we did that a few hours ago. Take care of it yourself," I grumbled, rolling over onto my side and away from him.
"No, Alex, it's not that at all, I just.. I think we have a ghost," he said, voice getting quieter as his sentence came to an end.
His words didn't make sense for a few minutes, but when I finally understood, I turned my head and opened my eyes to squint up at him.
"What?" was all I could manage to say.
"A ghost, Alex! It's downstairs; I can hear it!" he replied, his teeth pressing hard into his bottom lip, his eyes wide and searching my face in the dim light.
"No, Alex, it's not that at all, I just.. I think we have a ghost," he said, voice getting quieter as his sentence came to an end.
