Black Winter.

The jig is up, the news is out

I walk into my boss’s office, rage running through my veins. He kept something from me, something important. I ignore the shouts of his secretary and mistress and storm into his office. He’s blind folded and sprawled out on his desk, his dominatrix looks at me; whip falling from her hand. I motion to the door with a tilt of my head and she quickly runs; closing the door behind her.

Ivan’s shouting and struggling against the restraints bring a smile to my lips. I walk over to the desk, picking up the whip on my way. I raise the whip before bringing it down hard against his back. The room fills with his screams of pain; girlish screams at that.

“I thought you were into this kind of thing.” I let out a humorless chuckle as I unbind him and take off his blindfolds, “that was a very girlish scream.”

“What are you doing here, Winter?” He spits out in broken English. “Aren’t you suppose to be getting ready for your mission?”

“Yea, I should be but I’ve got important matters to attend to first.” I reply as I sit down in his chair, “matters that include why I was taken completely off the grid.”

“You know why I took you out of our systems and Russia’s database,” Ivan counters, “I need you to be a complete ghost.”

“So this has nothing to do with my biological mother looking for me?” I question, causing the old man’s muscles tighten. “Dmitri told me.”

“He had no right to tell you that.” He mutters as he slides off his desk, “he had no right at all.”

“And you had no right to keep this from me.” I scoff, “Ivan, you’ve been the father figure I never had; I trusted you.”

He looks at me, guilty written in his eyes. I was right when I said Ivan was the father figure I had in my life. He saved me from being yet another girl lost in the system, another girl sold into a marriage or into prostitution. He save my life and I trusted him with it; now this happens. I have no idea what I’m going to do. Keeping this information is the ultimate betrayal; even if I had no previous need to find out who my mother was. He knew and he kept it from me.

“So are you going to tell me who she is?” I ask, “I do have the right to know, don’t I?”

“She’s a fellow Black Widow,” he replies.

“I thought all of us couldn’t have kids; especially the older Widows?” I question him.

“She some how slipped through the cracks.” He explains, “she was an amazing agent with an amazing skill set; much like yourself. She left us after she found out about you. She lived in secrecy during the pregnancy for vanishing to the United States.”

“It’s safe to assume she’s still alive.” I muse, “but why the sudden interest in me? After nearly seventeen years, why look for me now?”

“SHIELD.” He replies, “they’ve been looking into you and the rest of newer Black Widows. That’s another reason why I’m sending you to the United States.”

“You’re not worried about the other girls getting caught?” I ask him, “why am I so different?”

“Trust me, Anastasyia, there is a reason why you’re different.” He assures me, “I may not be able to tell you now but soon you’ll see. You’re the future of the Red Room and Black Widows Ops; you’re our saviour.”

“None of this makes sense, Black Widow Ops vanished years ago,” Bucky sighs as we continue to look over the files long after Clint and Steve left. “I haven’t heard anything about them since I left to go after HYDRA.”

“Maybe Ivan just disappeared for awhile, looking for new recruits; ones that won’t start questioning him.” I suggest. It could be a possibility but from the look Bucky is giving me, he doesn’t think it’s likely.

“All of these girls are originally orphans, girls that would have gotten lost in the system,” he exams the list, “whatever he’s planning is probably really big; bigger than these girls.”

“He could be using these girls are bait to get us off his tail.” I suggest, “Fury said there are hundreds of new recruits and the list he gave us has about less than 90 girls on it.”

“So there are more girls at his disposal out there somewhere.” He finishes off. “We should find some of these girls and try to get them to spill Ivan’s plan. I’m sure they know something.”

“I also know that Ivan and the rest of Red Room only allow the girls to know certain things, things they want them to know.” I reason with him, “but I think you’re right. They’ve got to know something about his plan, even if it’s only a tiny piece of it.”

“I guess we’re going to make a trip to Russia then.” Bucky laughs.

A smile appears on my lips, “yea, I guess we are…”
