Flykarth 200 Prompt Challenge

Character

“He’s right there, Alex, what do I do? What do I do!? WHAT DO I DO!?”

“Jesus, Matt, chill. You’ve seen him a thousand times before!” Alex grinned at how flustered Matt could get at the mere sight of him.

“BUT THIS TIME IS DIFFERENT! Oh my god he’s coming over here, what do I do, I’m not prepared for this, ALEX, LET’S GO.” Matt didn’t notice that Alex had slowly been pushing him closer and closer until it was too late, “ALEX, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU-“ Matt silenced himself as his jaw dropped as the large mouse tilted his head down towards him with that huge immovable smile his costume had.

Alex bent over to whisper in his ear while nudging his shoulder, “well go on, say hi. Don’t be rude.” Matt took an audible gulp as he nodded his head to Alex’s words.

“H- h- hi, um, I’m Matt, I, uh, can I- can I get a picture?” The mouse nodded his large head and placed his arm out wide so the dark-haired boy could fall by his side. Matt glanced at Alex with the hugest of smiles and practically hurled himself into the mouse’s side. Alex grabbed his phone to take a picture while Matt’s face was beaming with delight that he was, in fact, touching Mickey Mouse. Alex couldn’t help but smile at Matt’s pink cheeks dying down from the blush he had as he was talking to the mouse and how happy he looked just being in his mere presence. The mouse lowered his arm as Alex had finished, ready to turn to meet his new fleet of fans, when Matt quickly turned into him some more, squeezing him tightly and releasing all in the blink of an eye. He scampered back over to Alex’s side, not daring to look back at the mouse in fear of rejection of the unexpected hug.

Once they were out of sight from the mouse, Matt let out a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding and peered down at his feet with wide eyes as realization had struck. He just hugged Mickey Mouse. He took a picture with him. He spoke to him. He touched him. Alex chuckled as he slung an arm around Matt’s neck, “that wasn’t so bad, was it?”

Matt looked up with that childish grin again and swiftly laid a brief kiss on Alex’s cheek. “Thanks, Alex. Means a lot.” Alex had a look of shock for a moment but it quickly turned into a lazy smile at Matt’s newly tinted cheeks from the action that he had just done.

“S’no problem, Matt. Glad to see you so happy.”

They continued their stroll until Matt was squirming from seeing the “BEST SWEATSHIRT EVER” that he “NEEDED TO BUY TO COMPLETE HIS COLLECTION” in one of the souvenir shops.

“Alex, I NEED it!” Matt had clumsily thrown the black sweatshirt with Mickey’s face on it over his head and was jumping up and down in front of Alex, “I mean, just look at me, I look GREAT in this!”

“THEN GET IT! Christ, Matt, I’m not your mother, you don’t need my permission. Just buy the damn thing!” Glares from passing mothers with their children were thrown Alex’s way at his choice words and he shrugged his shoulders in an almost apologetic way.

Matt came running up to Alex, sporting his new Disney bag holding his favorite purchase of the week, grinning like he won the lottery. It was cute, really, how happy a grown man could get over a fictional character. Alex had never seen somebody so passionate about a cartoon character and it could make anyone want to squeeze the boy upon seeing his smile at the mention of the cartoon’s name.

“Not to kill your buzz or anything, Flyzik, but I wanna go home. I’m so tired.” And of course Matt had an immediate pout on his lips as Alex’s heart gave in, “okay, two more rides. BUT THAT’S IT.” Matt beamed and was already on his way to the spinning teacups that he knew were a cliché, but he couldn’t help it, he loved them. And Alex couldn’t help but to love them right then, too, just from watching Matt try to choose which teacup was his favorite and he wanted to sit in.

After yet another hour, honestly Alex wasn’t even sure how Matt convinced him to stay, Matt was FINALLY ready to go and Alex was thoroughly exhausted. He nearly fell asleep on the monorail and was tripping over his feet on their way to the car, nearly busting his chin open on a pole that just so happened to have collided with his face. Matt tried, he really did, to retain the laughter to no avail. “S’not funny, Fly-dick. Really hurt.”

“I’m sorry, Alex. Want me to kiss it?” Matt rose his eyebrows suggestively and puckered his lips as Alex pushed his face away chuckling.

“Just get me home, dickwad.”

Alex just wanted to sleep but Matt was having no part of that as he turned the radio up so loud there was no logical reason the windows weren’t shattered. There went that plan. But Matt rarely got in these moods and if it meant Alex would have to put up with his ears bleeding to see Matt singing his heart out to a song he didn’t know the words to, he would do it. So he sucked up his droopy eyes and sang along with him, seeing who could guess the next word properly and who would just look like a crazy person, which in their case, was both of them.

When they reached Alex’s apartment Matt had apparently decided he was going to crash at his place and got out the car with him, still running like a four year old, and went up the steps to go inside. Matt ran into the complex and plopped down on the couch, motioning for Alex to join him as he flipped the switch for the TV, settling for the Disney channel to stay in his mood, and turning the volume down. Much to many people’s surprise, Matt loved to talk over his day’s events and relive them just as if he were there. Matt and Alex spent a good hour and a half trying to piece everything that occurred throughout the day until Matt jumped up to put his new hoodie on and landed back on the couch nearly crushing Alex in the process. Alex chuckled for what was probably the thousandth time before he remembered his bag of goodies.

“Wait here. I, uh, I got you something.” Matt’s face lit up with excitement at whatever this present could have been. “Um, uh, close your eyes I guess..” Matt’s lids slipped shut tight as he stuck his hands out with pure joy running through his veins. This day just kept getting better and better. “Okay, open.” Matt’s eyes shot open as they widened at his view as his grin spread impossibly bigger, reaching the tips of his eyes as he glanced from the stuffed toy in Alex’s hand to his face and back again a few more times. “I was gonna wait until your birthday but, well, you just look so damn adorable today and I don’t know..you just..needed it so, um, here.” He held out the toy for Matt to take who snatched it up without a second thought.

“I LOVE IT, THANK YOU!” In his hands was a brand new stuffed Mickey that he hadn’t even seen at the stores. It wasn’t just any Mickey, it was a rockstar. Complete with an electric guitar and a four-fingered “rock on” hand. His eyes were squinting as his mouth hung open from screaming to an imaginary crowd. Matt never saw Alex look at anything of the sort, in fact, he didn’t remember ever NOT seeing Alex. How could he have missed such a thing? He studied the toy a bit longer before he smiled to himself and held the toy up next to Alex, “ya know, it kinda looks like you. But, you know, with better style.” Alex lightly punched his arm because Alex was, without a doubt, the most stylish person Matt knew who you would never think would give two fucks about his clothes.

“Whatever, Fly-dick. Why don’t you just make him your best friend then?”

“Okay. But only if you’re my boyfriend.” Matt’s eyes widened at the realization that he said that out loud, “I mean, uh, I’m just kidding, man, I do-“

“Okay. Why not? Give the kids something to spread rumors around with, right?” He laughed at what he knew people would do with this new information as Matt was still staring at him in shock.

“Wait. Do you- do you mean it? I mean, now’s not really the time to joke around and I don’t know if you’re being serious about this because you like to joke at inappropriate times and, I don’t know, you’re probably just joking right now, but, oh no, I’m rambling right now, aren’t I? Shit, I didn’t mean to keep talking, I just do that when I get nervous, wait, you already know that. I mean, you’re my best friend, of course you know that. You know that, right? Who am I kidding, you’ve even told me I talk too much when I’m nervous, I mean, that’s what best friends do, they notice things about each other. It’s also what boyfriends do and, well, I guess now you do it for both parts. Unless you were kidding. And if you were kidding then I take back the whole ‘boyfriend’ thing, I-“ Matt stopped when he realized Alex was practically on the ground laughing, eyes closed and a hand holding his stomach as he doubled over from laughing at Matt. “Alex?”

“I’m sorry- I- oh my god, Matt, you’re just so cute, I- I can’t stop laughing.” He stood up as he wiped the water from his eyes to look at Matt who was a deep red and trying to hide his face in his arm, “aw, I didn’t mean to upset you, c’mere.” Matt didn’t move so Alex reached over and held him in a loose hug and buried his face in his hair, “m’sorry. But Matt?” Matt lifted his head at the call of his name and Alex moved to look into his eyes, “I wasn’t kidding.” Matt beamed again and, Alex couldn’t help it, he kissed his cheek. Alex had done it numerous times but they never meant anything, well, he wouldn’t have ever admitted they meant anything, before now. A yawn escaped from Matt’s lips as another blush feigned across his cheeks from doing it right in Alex’s face. “Come on, up. Time for bed.” He stood up, dragging Matt by the arms until he was upright next to him and he grabbed the Mickey from his hands, throwing it on the couch, saying, “you don’t need him tonight,” and smiling when Matt blushed again with his pair of wide eyes. Alex could get used to having this crimson-faced boy all to himself.
