The Price of Dawn

Payton,

I will never understand why you chose me. You were the homecoming queen and a shoe-in for prom queen when you walked up to me and demanded I take you on a date. I loved that about you – the way you didn’t care what anyone thought. We’d been neighbors for ten years and I’d admired you for nearly as long. I never thought I stood a chance with you though. I was like Joseph Gordon Levitt – before he became cool. You didn’t care about my “nerd status” though that day. You said you liked me and wanted to go on a date with me but wouldn’t ask me out because you were a lady. Even after you said that to me I was still nervous to ask you out but I’m glad I did. If I hadn’t asked you out that day – after you demanded I ask you out, of course – we never would have gotten married. Sure, I imagined that we’d get married after we graduated college and would have a grand affair because that’s what you deserve. Leukemia messed everything up though, and I will forever hate it for taking you away from me too soon.

Love,
Eddie
