The Hardest Thing of All

It might torment you, eat away at your insides for the rest of your life. It might tear you away from sane society, make you wish you had never made that choice. That's what it did to me. I lost the man I should have loved. I could have loved. I could have seen him die, and not thought more of it than sympathetic thoughts to his family. Had I not known, I might be okay.

But I'm not.
