Be My Escape

I Need Somebody, Somebody Crazy Enough To Tell Me I Will Love You Till We Are Buried

“I don’t know Kellin…” I said slowly feeling unsure of his health. “Look.. Maybe you should come with me.” I said but I knew there was no way Kellin could have heard me as he suddenly slumped forward in a faint. “Kellin!” I yelped wrapping my arms around his waist to prevent his pretty face from hitting the solid concrete. I stood and pulled him up with me then laid him down so his body was flat on the bench we had been sitting on.

“Shit!” I muttered looking at the unconscious boy and whipping out my phone. I dialed my best friend’s number and waited impatiently for Jaime to pick up.

“Jaime!” I yelped when I heard him answer the phone.

“Vic!” He mimicked me not knowing the importance of this phone call. “What’s up?

“Dude.. K-Kellin fucking Quinn.. We were t-talking and before I got here he popped some pills. He’s p-passed out on the park bench next to me right now. Help!” I said trying not to hyperventilate.

“Holy shit dude! Why didn’t you START with that!?” Jaime yells. “I’m on my way. Can you get him to the entrance of the park or do you need help?” He asked me.

“Are you kidding?” I said shocked. “He’s tiny. Not that anyone would imagine it..” I told him preparing to hoist Kellin into my arms.

“I’ll be there in five and we can take him to the hospital.” Jaime said as I heard his car door slam shut through the phone.

“Kay.” I said shutting my phone and placing it in my pocket as I lifted the unconscious boy into my arms and headed to the parking lot. When we got there I leaned his body into mine that rested on a lamppost as we waited for Jaime to arrive.

Suddenly the sound of tires squealing hit my ears and I stood up wrapping Kellin in a strange embrace to get him into the backseat of Jaime’s car when he pulled up next to me. I gently lowered Kellin onto the seats and jumped in the front slamming my seat belt on as Jaime took off.

When we pulled into the hospital Jaime let me get out at the emergency entrance with Kellin and zoomed away to find a parking spot to meet us in there.

As soon as I walked in the man sitting at the front desk stood and started to speak but I could barely understand him as I was freaking out and worrying for the boy in my arms.

“He popped some pills with vodka. I tried to talk to him and he seemed fine then out of nowhere he was throwing up and he fainted!” I told the man quickly just as Jaime was walking through the door.

“Breathe Vic.” Jaime told me raising an eyebrow, most likely at the frantic look on my face.

“Right.” I said taking a deep breath as I laid Kellin on a stretcher. “I am GOING with him.” I said forcefully before the man tried to tell me I couldn’t.

“What’s your relation?” He asked me.

“The only one that cares.” I answered honestly. The man raised an eyebrow and asked me my name. “Vic. Vic Fuentes.” I responded quickly.

“Alright Mr. Fuentes, you can come until we can get ahold of his parents. Then it is up to them whether you stay or not. In the meantime while they get to work pumping his stomach will you please fill out the information you know and give us our patient’s name?” A young doctor said cutting off the man at the front desk that was obviously planning on telling me I had to stay behind. I nodded vigilantly knowing I’d do anything so Kellin wouldn’t have to be alone again.

“Kellin.” I told the girl. “His name is Kellin. He’s seventeen.” I said watching as they took him into the double doors taking him to a room. “Kellin Quinn.”

“Someone get ahold of his mother!” the doctor shouted practically running to help save Kellin. I walked quickly behind them worrying about the younger boy and staying right on their tail.

“We go his mom!” Someone yelled. “She’s on her way now.” They called just as the young doctor tore his shirt off to get a better idea of his injuries. I instantly cringed as I hadn’t seen them in a bright light and I heard Jaime gasp from behind me.

“Vic…” he said quietly looking at me in absolute horror. “Did you know?” he asked obviously talking about the bruises that littered Kellin’s chest.

I shook my head and said, “He told me tonight. He used my phones light… It didn’t look that bad.”

“What happened to him!?” The doctor snapped at me obviously having heard what I had said to Jaime.

“I, uh, I d-don’t know! He j-just.. Umm, I don’t know.” I said sounding, even to myself like a broken record as they began to pump Kellin’s stomach.

“Now I KNOW that isn’t true!” The woman yelled as his vitals were getting better. “Who the hell did this to him?” She demanded.

“H-He.. I.. W-Well..” I started but was interrupted by a cough from the bed. “Kellin!” I yelped snapping my head to him and smiling gently as he opened his bright blue eyes. “Thank GOD you’re alright. You scared the shit out of us dude.” I told him as I felt the tension leave my body.

“U-us?” Kellin stuttered with a confused look on his face that made him look years younger.

“Jaime and me.” I told him nodding towards the door where you could see Jaime pacing back and forth probably waiting for me to come and tell him any news.

“Oh. How did we get here?” Kellin asked me looking around.

I opened my mouth to answer with Jaime’s name but the doctors strong voice cut across me and said, “What happened to you?” looking directly at Kellin’s mangled body. I glared at her prepared to tell her off when a stalky short haired woman threw the door open nearly hitting me.

“Oh Kellin!” She said and I assumed she was his mother. Kellin obviously got all of his good looks from his father. Though Kellin had his mom’s dark hair none of his other features resembled her at all.

“Mom.” Kellin said the spark that had lit his blue eyes when he was talking to me completely gone as he spoke drearily towards his mother.

“Sweetheart what were you thinking?” She asked frantically in a sickeningly sweet voice that I knew to be all too fake by the look in her eyes.

“Lots of things mother.” Kellin said obviously trying to stay away from dangerous territory.

“I’ll give you guys some privacy.” The blonde haired doctor said looking at Kellin’s mother. “When you’re done speaking with your son we have some questions to ask you concerning Kellin’s previous medical record and what has happened to him this evening.”

“Of course.” Ms. Quinn said smiling at the young woman as she walked out of the door. Then she spun quickly towards Kellin and smacked him directly in the face. I stepped forward but her voice stopped me in my tracks. It was deadly furious as she said to Kellin, “I swear to God Kellin Quinn you better pray you doing something this stupid doesn’t get me into trouble or you’ll be sorry you were ever born.” She proved this sentence to be true with another hit to the small boys’ body.

I gaped at the woman that had raised the boy in front of her, then looked to Kellin who was looking at the bed sheets in what could be shame but if you looked hard enough you could see the fear. “Mrs. Quinn maybe it’s time you went to speak with the doctors.” I growled at the woman stepping in between her and Kellin so she didn’t hit him again.

“Oh!” she gasped. “I didn’t even hear you come in!” she told me using the same fake sweetness that she directed towards the doctors.

“I think it would be a good idea to see them NOW Mrs. Quinn.” I repeated nudging my head in the direction of the door and watching to make sure she was all the way out and the door had shut before I spun on my heel to face Kellin.

“What the hell was that!?” I asked as Kellin flinched away at my quick movement. “She just like… Threatened your life!” I yelled instantly freaking out about what I had just witnessed.

“Vic.. calm down, her threatening my life is nothing new. I’m not dead yet..” Kellin said. “Look, come sit down.” He told me patting the bed beside him.

“What are we going to do!?” I exclaimed sitting down where Kellin had asked me too. “What’s going to happen?? A-are you going to be okay? Of course you’re not. I mean.. She threatened you! You’re not going to be okay! Kellin what are we –” I was rambling when I suddenly felt his lips pressed on mine. I sighed and leaned in towards Kellin’s body without leaning on the fragile looking boy.

His lips were soft and tasted like honey with a hint of vodka from his popping pill episode. Without realizing what I was doing my hand moved on its own accord and it was suddenly rubbing Kellin’s cheek as his lips moved steadily across mine. I felt Kellin lean his face into my hand almost immediately after I put it there and couldn’t help but grin against his mouth. I moved myself closer to Kellin and felt more than heard his resounding groan.

His groan seemed to shock him out of whatever he had been thinking and suddenly we both pulled away. I sat back and looked directly into his cobalt eyes as he looked into mine. I noticed that his eyes were shades darker than their normal color and I couldn’t help but wonder if mine were too.

“What just – ” I began but suddenly the door was flung open as Jaime walked in completely unaware of what had just happened.

“What’s going on guys?” Jaime asked looking between me and Kellin. “Is Kellin okay? You guys look like you’ve seen a ghost or something.” Jaime said nudging my shoulder with his hip in a joking manner.

I couldn’t even acknowledge Jaime and his jokes or questions. I kept eye contact with Kellin still trying to figure out what had just happened. He kissed me! I kissed him back! I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do.

“Umm, Hello? You guys?” I heard Jaime call. “Are you guys like… Okay?” He asked as he waved a hand in front of our faces.

Kellin and I both snapped our heads towards Jaime and said, “What? Of course we’re okay!” we spoke in sync then looked back at each other in astonishment.

“Ooookay..” Jaime said exaggerating the word. “Well I’m going back out there if you need me weirdos.” He added still in his usual jest.

“What just happened?” I finally got out after Jaime left and I looked at Kellin.

“I- I don’t know. I mean.. You were rambling. I just did what I’d normally do to someone that was talking at me. Granted, it usually being… girls.” He said that adorable look of confusion back on his face.

“Well… What do we do now?” I asked still unsure as to what had just happened.

“I- I don’t know that either.” Kellin muttered looking down. I couldn’t help but laugh at the expression I caught on his face as it turned towards the bed sheets. He looked like a rejected puppy.

“Well… what’s going to happen?” I said trying to get this conversation to go somewhere.

“Well,” Kellin started looking up to make eye contact with me. I saw how nervous he looked so I arched an eyebrow urging him to continue. “Did you… Like it?” He asked me slowly moving his eyes down to his hands which were playing with the sheet wrapped around him, but he kept his head held high in his determination to get me to answer.

I grinned at the pale boy in front of me and decided to treat it like I would if he were a girl. I leaned in quickly and captured his lips in mine and felt his sigh as he kissed me back.
