Chapter 6

“Sare can you get me glass of water?” Ryan asked and I just looked over at his lazily sprawled out body on the couch and blinked a couple of times. “Please! I’m dying over here.”

“You can get up and get your own water, stop being lazy.” I replied and he proceeded with the puppy dog face. “I’m not getting you water.”

“You’re mean.” He mumbled as he rolled onto his feet and made his way to the kitchen.

“Hey Sarah.” Spencer and Jon said nearly at the same time as they both smiled at me. Not just a smile, a creepy kind of smile too.

“I don’t even know if I want to know why you guys are talking to me like that.”

“We know you know why Brendon punched the wall. We want to know why.” Spencer said clearly waiting for a response.

“Why do you think I know anything about that?”

“We don’t think, we know.” Jon said and they both started smiling again.

“Ryan, the guys are being creepy!” I screamed and I saw Ryan walk out of the kitchen with a glass of some sort of juice and a sandwich. “I thought you were just thirsty.”

“Well the strategy was to get you to go to the kitchen and get me something to drink, then I would be like no I don’t want water I want juice, and then I would be like oh darling I’m hungry as well!” he said starting to talk in a British accent.

“You sneak.” I said smiling at him and then I remembered why I called him back in the room in the first place. “Now tell your friends to stop being so damn creepy!”

“What did they do, wink at you again?” he asked and I just folded my arms as he started laughing.

“It’s not funny, it’s weird.” I grumbled and Ryan just let out an awe and came to sit next to me making sure to kick the guys out of his way.

“Dude you told us she knows why but she won’t tell us, you gotta tell us!” Spencer exclaimed and I immediately turned to Ry.

“I didn’t say anything.” He said with a mouthful of his stupid sandwich. “I swear I didn’t.”

“I know you’re lying,” then I turned to the guys “I’m sorry but I can’t tell you anything.”

“Okay, Ryan will tell us.” Spencer said sounding like he just accomplished something gray and I just started laughing.

“Ryan doesn’t know shit.”

“You’re not nice today.” Ry frowned at me and started looking all sad so I kissed him on the cheek which immediately cheered him up. “But she’s right.”

The guys quickly lost interest in having a conversation with us after that and then I looked at the time and realized that Ryan and I have to leave soon because he finally decided to take me out on a date. He didn’t tell me where he was taking me though but he said not to dress up.

I asked Eden what does the term “do not dress up” means and we started having a debate whether I should wear something casual or something dressy-casual. That debate went on for like three hours and I decided to wear a cute dress. If he says “I told you not to dress up” I’ll just be like “oh this old thing, I always wear this shit”. After I told Eden my plan that was the first time she laughed in days.

All she does lately is go to work and then get home and watch Friends. It’s like that’s all she wants in life. One time I walked in on her yelling “It doesn’t matter if you were on a break cheating is cheating you dumbass!” followed by a remote heading into the TV.

I told the guys that I know why she’s upset but all I actually know is that she thinks she made a mistake. She didn’t specify what kind of mistake so I didn’t wanna nag her. Plus I don’t really know how to handle that type of shit so I’ll just wait for Suki to get her ass here and take care of it.

“Sare are you ready?” the voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I looked down at myself to notice that I was in fact ready. How the fuck this shit happens half the time is beyond me, I swear.

“I guess.”

“You’re dressed so nice.” He said smiling at me and then walking over to wrap his arms around my waist making sure to look me in the eyes before leaning down and kissing me. I couldn’t help but smile against his lips making him break out in laughter.

“So where are you taking me?”

“I don’t know yet.” He said sounding completely honest.

“Are you serious?” I asked with my mouth in the process of being hung open. He just started laughing again indicating that he was lying about what he said nod I sighed in relief.

“It’s going to be nice though, you’ll love it. Hopefully.”

As he led me to the car, he opened the passenger door for me so I could get in, then he would get into the drivers seat and start the car. I cant wait to see what he has prepared for me but I’m also worried because he’s friends with Brendon and everyone knows that Brendon is crazy and I don’t want a crazy first date, maybe second, but definitely not first.

The car ride was silent because I was enjoying looking out the window and watching the city lights pass me by. But it was weird twenty minutes later becaue we got out of the town and back into the suburbs part of the city. I just looked at Ryan and he noticed my gaze.

“What?”

“Where are you taking me?” I asked looking around trying to find some sort of a hint to where we might end up.

“You’ll see.” As soon as he said that he parked in a driveway and I just rolled my eyes because I knew immediately where we were.

“You brought me to your house.” I said and he started nodding. “That’s so cheesy.”

“I thought it would be sweet and romantic, now restaurants are cheesy, not inviting a girl to your house and having a nice dinner.”

I just awed and he told me to wait in the car as he got out and held the door open for me so I could get out, he locked the car and we walked in the house. There wasn’t much lighting in the living room, but it seemed as if everything was cleared out and the table with a maroon table cloth was place in the middle supporting a set of candle sticks.

I didn’t notice that Ryan had walked away and moved a chair out for me to sit on. He had to clear his throat to wake me up and I eventually sat down. Ryan was sitting across from me and he smiled then rang a bell. I shot him a questioning look and I could clearly see that he was trying not to smile. Not just a smile smile, but a laughter kind of smile.

“Madam, how may I serve thee tonight!” I looked over to my right and saw Brendon standing there wearing a fake French mustache with the swirls and wearing dress pants and a vest. His hair was full of gel and sleeked back as well. Now I know why Ryan was trying not to laugh. Just as I was about to “order” I was stopped by thick accent. I feel like he was trying to go for French but it was sounding like Italian and Jamaican. “Yes, we have our specials, they will be right out!” he said throwing his hand up in the air and Ryan started laughing as Brendon walked away.

“How much are you paying him?’ I asked taking a sip of the wine that Ryan poured into my glass.

“I have to clean his room for a week.”

“Just a week?” I asked and his eyes widened.

“Have you seen his room?”

“No, is it messy?”

“I wish it was just messy.” He mumbled and I laughed.

“So what’s the special?” I asked and Ry just shrugged his shoulders. “Is Brendon making it?” I said with my eyes wide.

“No, he’s making the dessert. Spencer and Jon are making the dinner.” When he said that I had a feeling that our dinner will be a bit on a cheesy side. “So what would you want to talk about tonight?”

“I don’t know, what do you want to know about me?” I asked.

“Well I know where you’re from and I know that you have two best friends but I don’t know what you do for work.”

“Well for the most part I just help Eden around with her business and all, and in exchange for that she helps me with my investments. Eden and I went to school together to study architecture, but not because we wanted to do that for our career, we just wanted to build a house.”

“Wait, is the house that you live in now, is that what you built?” he asked clearly shocked and I started shaking my head.

“No, but we are working on a blueprint for our summerhouse which we would eventually move into.”

“So you guys are all planning to live together for the rest of your lives?” he asked cocking his head to the side and I just shrugged.

“I guess not, but for now, while we’re still young. The plan was to build a house live in there together, then keep it just for vacations so we could always come back to spend time with one another when we have families and stuff.” I explained and he nodded in understanding. Then Brendon came out with a tray.

“Your dinner is served.” Again with the Italian-Jamaican accent.

He placed a bowl or soup in front of me and the same in front of Ryan, then he literally ran out of the room. I didn’t understand why till I looked down to see what the soup was.

“Ramen noodles.” Ryan said nodding not sure how to react.

“WE PUT EXTRA SPICES IN THERE AND SUCH TO MAKE IT BETTER! AND CHEESE!” the voices shouted from the kitchen and I started laughing because my prediction was correct.

“So basically what happened is Spencer boiled the water and poured it over the noodles and then Jon put spices and cheese in the pot.” I said smiling at Ryan.

“I’m sorry about this.” Ryan said and just frowned.

“Don’t be sorry, this is the most exciting date I’ve had in my entire life.” At that he started smiling again.

“So you want a family.” He said all of a sudden and I almost chocked on the noodles.

“Um, eventually, yes. Why?”

“Something that I always wanted was a family as well, at least we have that in common. Why do I feel like that right now it put a little bit of pressure on us?” he laughed nervously.

“Would you want to have a family with me one day?”

“I’ve thought about it.” It was really awkward at that point. I was happy to hear that and we’ve only been hanging out and getting to know one another for about three weeks now and this is our very first date. “Have you thought about having a family with me?”

“Maybe, its just too soon to figure it out.” I admitted and he just nodded. “I’m sorry, I’m just a very cautious person.”

“Eden warned me about that too.” He laughed nervously. “But you’re right, it is soon to talk about family and all but I think it might be the proper time to ask you to be my girlfriend.” He said and I couldn’t help but smile and let my cheeks burn for some reason.

“Okay.” I just said with a small voice and he laughed.

At that very moment there was a lot of commotion in the kitchen and Brendon flew out through the living room out of the door. I looked over at Ryan and he had his head down and he was taking a deep breath.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“He wouldn’t tell me. He keeps saying he’s fine but as soon as we talk about you and Eden, well as soon as we talk about you he brings up Eden and starts calling her names, but it all seems really forced and then he just gets pissed off and storms out.” He explained and Eden didn’t tell me much. Just that she made a mistake. That’s it.

“Eden didn’t tell me anything, I told you all she told me but that’s all there is to it.” I said and started thinking about it. “I think they got in a fight because she figured out that I know. Obviously it’s true cuz you told me.”

“Yeah because I had to confront Brendon about it.” He said then he looked over to the kitchen. “Hold on a second.”

He got out of his chair and walked over to the door leading to the kitchen I heard some words coming out of there but they weren’t clear enough for me to understand.

“Bye Sare!” Spencer said and Jon just waived as they walked out of the kitchen followed by Ryan, I waived back at them and then they walked out the front door.

After that Ryan sat back down and continued with what he was trying to say but there were witnesses that loved the act of eavesdropping.

“All I knew till I talked to Brendon is that Eden definitely slept over. And Brendon seemed all out of breath as we walked in so I don’t know exactly what happened.”

“Ew I don’t wanna listen to that shit.”

“They weren’t doing anything like that before we walked in, there’s no way that Bren could hide a boner that fast.” He explained shoving more noodles in his mouth.

“Really, Ryan, really?” I said pushing my bowl away from me because he just grossed the hell out of me.

“I’m sorry but that’s the truth, anyway” he continued “when Brendon went to drop Eden off the guys left cuz he didn’t have any beer left.”

“That is such an important piece of information.” I said as my words were soaked in sarcasm.

“Well I felt like I should justify to why they left his house and I stayed.”

“Now that is an important question, why did you stay?” I asked standing my elbows up on the table and resting my chin in my palms.

“I needed to raid the house and see if anything did happen. But it looked like one of them slept on the couch cuz there was a blanket there and his bed wasn’t made, which means he didn’t show her the room cuz otherwise he’d made it after waking up to show the girl that he’s not a slob.”

“He has a whole system?” I asked raising my eyebrows in disbelief. Do all the guys have their little rulebooks? Probably. Now I’m worried if Ryan has one and if this Ramen noodle dinner is one of the points on there.

“Just for the girls that he wants to get in bed.”

“Oh isn’t that lovely.”

“Stop interrupting me.” He said pointing at me with a fork and I just threw a noodle at him which urged him to keep talking. “As soon as Brendon came back he seemed very happy and he just ended up telling me everything. He was happy. He didn’t want her for a one night stand. He wanted her for good.”

“But isn’t that how he acts with all the girls, he’s cocky and rude and shit?” I asked and he started shaking his head vigorously.

“He actually pretends to be shy and throws glimpses at them and pretends to be a sweetheart till he gets what he wants. “

“Which one was he with Eden?”

“Well he didn’t know how to act. He just wanted her to notice him right away he wanted to get on her nerves so that she’d always be thinking about him. It worked until he said something that pissed her off and she started walking away for him that’s when he grabbed her put her in the car and took her home.”

“I’m surprised she didn’t kick his ass.”

“Why?”

“She has the power to kill.” I said widening my eyes as if I was frightened. It didn’t scare Ryan though he just chocked on his food out of laughter.

“Brendon is strong enough to handle her.” I just rolled my eyes at that and finally started eating my “soup”. “So they drank beer and then she fell asleep on the couch and he put a blanket over her and then in the morning he said he kissed her.”

“But didn’t you say he was out of breath when you walked him?” he just nodded “She kissed him, cuz otherwise she’d be out of breath from shock.”

“Why would she kiss him?”

“I don’t know and can we just go to the movies or something cuz this date is turning into a spying mission on our friends.” I said looking down a bit.

“Sarah I’m so sorry. I was expecting it to be a lot more nice and the food was supposed to be better, and the waiter wasn’t supposed to run away.”

“It’s okay, I still liked it, but maybe we should do something else, cuz first of all you told me not to dress up, second of all I kind of want to go to Dave & Busters.” I said and he immediately jumped up and pulled me out his seat. He blew the candles out and we both ran out to the car.

“You are a genius!”

“Can we play pool?” I asked.

“Yes, we can play pool!” he shouted punching the roof of the car and I just started laughing hysterically.

We got to the place in ten minutes and got us a pool table. We ordered normal food and started playing.

This time we didn’t talk about anyone but us, we didn’t mention Eden, not Brendon, not Spencer, and not even Jon. We were our crazy selves.

“Okay why did you ask me to show you how to shoot if you play almost as well as a pro?” he asked and I slapped my forehead.

“Think a little darling, think a little.” I smiled and then got another point. He was losing and by the looks of him he didn’t like it.

“Oh! I get it.” He said looking down trying to hide his face and I just laughed.

“You’re too cute.” I said coming up to him and kissing him on the cheek.

“You’re just saying that so I’d be find with losing.”

“Maybe.” I said hiding a smile.
