What Am I Getting Myself Into?

I sighed heavily,knowing it was going to be a long slow night. I pushed my hair away from my face as I wiped down the bar,looking around at all of the regular drunks in the bar and the few new faces. There were maybe 20 people in the bar. Either nursing a beer in a booth alone or sitting in small groups,laughing and tossing back shots. I glanced down the bar at a face that id become accustomed to seeing most nights during the week,I think it got a little too crowded for his liking on the weekend,but other than that he never failed in showing up. I took a moment to study his face as he stared down into his drink as if it held some sort of answer for him. He had the most gorgeous hazel eyes under his long, pretty lashes. Even more lovely than his eyes though were his full,pouty lips. I had always been a sucker for lips like those. He had a strong build,broad shoulders and thick arms. I never understood why he was always alone in here. Realizing that id been looking for a little too long,I mentally shook myself and went down to refill his glass as he shot the contents back and tapped on the bar to get my attention. I smiled at him and pulled out the bottles,mixing up
his usual drink. "How are you,Tommy?" I asked as I placed the drink in front of him and leaned on the bar,no one else seemed to need my attention just yet. He tossed that drink back too and looked up into my eyes. "Just peachy" he said in his rough voice. Just as I was about to open my mouth to speak again one of the guys from a table of three came up to the bar and waved his hand to get my attention. I offered Tommy a smile before walking down to see what the guy needed. "My friends bet me that I couldn't get your number! You cant let me lose to those guys!" He slurred and smiled widely at me. I raised an eyebrow and noticed how hard he was gripping the bar to steady himself. "Maybe we should call you a cab instead" I suggested and turned to grab the phone on the wall. Before I could completely turn my arm was grabbed and I was yanked back towards the guy. I widened my eyes at him. "Come on,baby. Dont be a bitch." he said,not letting go of my arm,but rather tightening his grip. I sighed and tried to pry my arm free "Maybe YOU shouldn't be a bitch,sir." I heard a soft laugh from the other end of the bar and glanced down to see Tommy getting up and walking towards us,a smile threatening at the corner of his mouth until he turned his glance on the guy that STILL hadn't let go of my arm. "Shes right,you shouldn't be such a bitch. Let the lady go." Tommy said,grabbing the guys arm and squeezing until he let go of mine and tried to take a swing at Tommy. Boy,was that a mistake. Before his fist could even come in contact Tommy hit him once and the guy
was out cold. "Thanks" I smiled at him and turned to call that cab as the other guys from his table came to scoop him up,throwing sideways glances at Tommy. "I just didn't want him to give you anymore trouble." Tommy shrugged and gave me a once over,I assumed to see if I was hurt at all. "Where the hell is the bouncer for this place anyway? They shouldn't have a girl like you behind the bar without someone here to kick idiots like that guy out for giving you shit" I blushed a little and shrugged. "We have a few bouncers on the weekend,but theres hardly anyone here during the week. Im not supposed to be the only one tending bar but Rich called in sick last minute,so I got stuck.....hey,thank you again,by the way" He smiled and tossed some money on the bar to pay his tab and walked out. It was nearly time to close the place up anyway and I yelled "Last Call!" to the remaining people in the bar. After I finished closing up I walked out locking the door behind myself and I turned,very surprised to see Tommy leaning against the side of the building. "Hey" I said,raising a brow at him but smiling anyway. "I thought id walk you home,dont want anymore creeps to mess with ya." He stated and pushed himself off of the wall,walked towards me a lazy smile spread across his lips. I could still smell the whiskey on his breath but I figured he was harmless.
