This Reckless Dream

One.

Lil's curly blonde hair was swooped into a ponytail as she walked through Fort Walton Beach High School's doors for her last first day of school.  Despite her reputation as a cruelly sexual creature, she was incredibly intelligent and therefore was beginning her day with AP Calculus 2.  Which was an unbearable thought not only because she'd have to wake up to such a class, but also because the math teacher she'd had since freshman year retired and she'd have a new teacher.  She stepped into the familiar blue room, math equations still stenciled onto the walls, and the one binder and two folders she had been carrying tumbled to the floor, her jaw nearly dropping with them.

"A- Alex?"  She stuttered, disbelief coloring her features.  There was no way that the golden haired god from Arcadia could be the new teacher.  It was simply unfathomable.

Alex's head snapped up at the sound of his name and he could only stand and gape.  He was just as shocked as she was and he had no idea how to handle this.  "Lil?"

A small surge of pride and pleasure slid through the girl's body at the fact that he remembered her name, but then again, they always remembered her name.  A young man also in the class had picked up Lil's belongings for her and had caught the exchange.  "You two know each other?  Aren't you new?"  He questioned, the second question aimed at Alex.  The young man handed Lil her things and she purposefully neglected to say thank you.

"I went to school with her older brother,"  Alex responded without missing a beat.  It was a complete lie; he had no idea if she even had siblings, let alone an older brother anywhere near his age.  He was lucky though because Lil was the youngest of four children and the only girl.  And she supposed that her eldest brother was fairly close to his age.

"I suppose Logan never kept in touch?"  Lil tried to give the lie more substance and clearly it worked because the other students almost immediately lost interest in the conversation and began to take their seats.

"No, he didn't,"  Alex said quietly before motioning for her to take a seat.  She was the only girl in the class, which only had twelve students.  "Well, hello everyone.  Obviously I'm the new teacher.  I'm Mr. Gaskarth.  I know that I'm no replacement for Mrs. Thetford, trust me, she taught me too.  She's fabulous.  I was a senior here the first year she ever taught,"  He paused, shuffling papers on his desk.  "Here's the syllabus, make sure you have everything you need by tomorrow because we're starting the first lesson then.  It'll be mostly review for the first few weeks, but I figure you already knew as much."  Alex handed the person at the front of each row the correct number of papers to pass back and examined his students as he did so.  Most of them looked excruciatingly antisocial, but Lil looked confident as if she were in the place where she reigned queen.  And to be perfectly honest, she did.

Lil was deeply immersed in drawing a detailed polar graph with seven petals when the sound of the bell made her jump.  Alex let out a soft chuckle at her reaction and because of her proximity to his desk she happened to hear it.  She rolled her eyes at him as she stood and took extra care to let her hips sway as she exited the class.

Lil's second period was improv and she was thrilled for that.  She was a fourth year along with her best friend Zack Merrick, which meant that they were the teacher's second in command.  Mrs. Whittaker was an excellent teacher, but it's difficult to have a substitute for an arts class so whenever she was away fourth years were always in charge.

"Oh, Zackariah, do I have the dish of the year for you!"  Lil hissed as they sat on the bench in the corner of the room together.  Because the class was based on performing the middle of the room was open and empty and there were two rows of benches pressed against the back wall, the second row being raised.

"Already?  It's only the first day,"  He responded, lightly pecking her check.  It was because of things like that what made the whole school think they were in this on again off again relationship, but it was really much more simple than that.  They were best friends and always affectionate with one another.  And whenever they both happened to be single they would have casual sex with one another.

"You remember that ten I told you I plowed from Arcadia last weekend?"

"Of course.  You included lots of vivid detail with that one,"  Zack muttered, shuddering as he ran his hand through his sandy colored hair.

"He's Thetty's replacement!"

Zack had been taking a sip of the Starbuck's frappe that he'd bought from Whittaker's snack shack in the corner of the room, but he spit it all over the freshman sitting in front of him at Lil's words.  "What the fuck?"  He whispered, frightful of what Whittaker would do if she heard the f-bomb.  She tolerated most cussing but she wouldn't have god damn or fuck in her classroom.

"What's your problem bro?!"  The freshman now covered in coffee snapped, turning to look at Zack.  Zack managed his best menacing look, which coupled with his massive biceps and multiple tattoos was more than enough to frighten the younger kid into turning back around and ignoring the situation.

"But seriously, what the fuck?"  Zack pressed, shaking his head at the situation entirely.

"I walked into that classroom and I swear both of our jaws hit the floor.  I thought I was going to pee myself.  How am I supposed to learn integration of differential equations with that man at the front of the room?"  Lil slammed her palm against her face and let out a quiet sigh of frustration so as not to interrupt Mrs. Whittaker's first day of school spiel.  "What the hell am I gonna do?"

"Nothing,"  Zack replied nonchalantly.  "I mean, what can you do?  Nobody knows so nobody cares.  As long as you don't do it again it doesn't matter.  He wasn't your teacher at the time and you're eighteen so there technically wasn't anything wrong with it."

"But that right there is the fault in your logic, my good friend."

"Please don't,"  Zack muttered knowing where she was going with this.  He  didn't like the idea of her sleeping around with this guy and it had absolutely nothing to do with the butterflies she stirred in his stomach.

"I get what I want and you know it,"  Lil responded, already knowing what his response would be.

"Of course I know it; I know it better than anyone else does."

I hate that these first few are coming out short and I think the next one will be, too, but it's simply just more beneficial to have them this way for now for multiple reasons.

I'd absolutely adore some constructive criticism on this because I have no idea what anyone thinks of it.
