Without Warning

Your eyes were wide not dead.

Despite John's problems, the show went rather well and Everly was glad she got to witness it. She forgot how amazing they were.

Once the show was over, it was to no one's surprise that John was a bit intoxicated and happier than she recalled him being all day.

"Evie." John cooed, his crooked grin on his lips as he embraced the girl. His hair was all over the place thanks to his recent shower and his tank top hung loosely on his thin frame.

The girl giggled at his behavior and she grabbed his hand, "You should go back to the bus."

John narrowed his eyebrows in thought, "Why? That's boring."

"Yeah, but it's probably for the best."

"Yeah, but since when do I do what's for the best?" He asked with a drunken grin and she grabbed the front of his shirt, in order to stop him from leaving. His green eyes met hers and she spoke calmly, "John..."

A groan left his lips, "Everly..."

"Come on."

He sighed and stopped fighting the girl, allowing her to grab up his hand once more and lead him out of the venue.

"Did you enjoy the show?" He asked softly as he swung their hands between them as they walked slowly.

"Well of course."

"Is that an, of course, because our music is good?"

The girl laughed, "Yeah, plus you could sing the phone book and I am certain it would sound amazing."

A grin hit John's lips again, "Well, thank you."

Everly nodded as silence filled the two again. John yawned as he rubbed his eye with his free hand and Everly couldn't help but smile at how cute he was. She knew deep down he still was that boy she thought he was and if she could bring that guy back to the surface she was certain all the guys would forget about the whole ordeal.

"What other songs have you put together for the new cd?" She asked and he grinned, "Want to hear?"

She nodded eagerly and it was his turn to lead. He pulled her to his bunk and urged her in which he followed behind. Once settled he opened up his laptop and she relaxed against his shoulder as he messed with something on the computer.

"It's really not that great quality. I mean, I did some of these in my bedroom."

"John, just hit play."

The boy snickered as he did as told and his voice filled the small bunk area. The two listened to several songs as the others filed onto the bus, not bothering to mess with either of them which Everly assumed she knew why.

"I really like the Los Angeles one." She spoke after the 3rd song ended and he shut his laptop.

"Yeah?"

She nodded, "Are you going to tell me what it's about?"

"My birthday in Los Angeles?"

Everly chuckled, "I gathered that much."

John laughed softly as he turned enough to be face to face with the girl.

"Can't tell you all my secrets, Evie."

"You can if you want."

John stared at her, lost in thought before he placed his hand on her side and leaned in, kissing her forehead, "Thank you, you know?"

"For what?" She whispered and he laid back on his pillow, shutting his eyes as he did so.

"Just being you really." He mumbled placing his arm around her lightly, wanting more than anything to just sleep. He wasn't certain why he felt so comfortable with her. Then again, he had always felt that way towards her. Sure, she was brutally honest and could be mean when she wanted, but that was also refreshing to him. Especially when all anyone seemed to do these days was lie.

Everly sighed and gave in, cuddling into the boy, allowing herself to fall into sleep as well. What was the harm in doing so when she was supposed to win him over anyways?

Everly woke up the next morning, John no longer in the bunk with her. The girl sat up with a yawn as she rubbed her eyes. She grabbed her phone up, only to see that it was not even 10 in the morning. She couldn't believe that he was up by choice. She forced herself from the bunk, slowly walking towards the voices she heard at the front of the bus.

"Good morning sleepy head." She heard from Garrett as soon as she walked in.

"Why are you guys up?" She questioned, falling into his lap as she eyed John and Kennedy across from them.

"Well, we had a pit stop about 30 minutes earlier and decided to get food. Didn't want to wake you."

"How did you wake him and not me?"

"Easy. Text." Kennedy stated and John chuckled, "No worries. We got you guys food as well."

"In that case I forgive you." She mumbled as John slid a biscuit still in the McDonald's wrapper, in front of her.

"Mhm. As you should. Just cheese." John added as he lit up a cigarette and Kennedy smirked from beside him which Everly tried to avoid.

"Thanks."

Garrett slung one of his arms around the girl's waist and leaned on the table, continuing his doodle he had begun earlier.

Kennedy immediately laughed, "You could just scoot over Gar."

"What? No. This is the nicest she's been to me since we stepped foot on the bus!"

"Not true." She mumbled through a mouth full of food.

"Is so."

"When do we get there?" She asked, changing subjects and John glanced at his phone, "Probably around noon."

A groan immediately left her lips, "This is torture."

"You sound like Pat."

"I'll have to wake him up after this."

"What? No. Don't do that to us. I shall keep you entertained!" Garrett stated and she laughed, "How so?"

"Oh! You can help me make a video."

Everly seemed to be in thought causing John to laugh, "I think she's intriqued."

"I am, Nickelsen. I accept."

"Great!" Garrett responded happily as he pushed up his black rimmed glasses. The girl chuckled, "You're such a nerd." She joked messing with his hair before she climbed from his lap to throw away her trash.

"Give him some cred. Someone has to be." Kennedy chuckled and Garrett rolled his eyes, "Whatever. Let me go get my stuff!"

The boy flew to the back and Kennedy stood up, "Well, my time to go back to sleep to avoid that crap."

John laughed as Everly placed her hands on her hips.

"I'll stay."

"Thank you."

Kennedy patted John's shoulder, and gave her a smirk as he passed. She didn't know what that was all about considering this was what he wanted.

Garrett returned seconds later with his computer gear and an excited smile. Everly couldn't help but laugh as she slid in beside John.

"You have no idea what you got yourself into." John spoke, throwing his cigarette out of the small window.

"Let's do an interview. It's been a while John, plus, I'm sure everyone would be amused to hear from Kennedy's sister. Especially if she has embarrassing stories!"

John chuckled, "Fine, Gar."

The girl shrugged as he fiddled with his camera, "Ok, let me just fix this...ok. Got it!"

"Gar, do you even know what you're going to ask?"

"Nah, I'll wing it." He spoke, the camera now recording causing John to laugh in his seat.

"So, John Oh, how was the first night on tour?"

"Pretty amazing."

"Yeah, like, out of 10, 2.5." Everly stated flipping through the magazine on the table.

"Oh this is Kennedy's sister making her first appearance on our channel. Hello, Kennedy's sister."

"I have a name." She grumbled and John threw his arm over her shoulders, "Yeah she does, little Evie." John joked, poking her cheek with his free hand.

Everly swatted at his hand and shoved him lightly.

"The love here is so hard to deny." Garrett mocked.

"I love you Gar bear." She said smiling into the camera and Garrett chuckled, "I love you too."

She reached over pulling his glasses from him and placing them on herself, "Do I look like you? Shit. I need a beard."

John laughed, "Your hair is too neat as well."

"Hey!"

"I'm Garrett. I play bass, and I am a hipster. Love me, but I'm going to pretend like I don't care."

John was in a fit of giggles in his seat and Garrett glared at her from behind the camera.

"I love you." She added innocently and he didn't bother to speak.

"Gar..." She spoke once more, with a sweet smile.

"Screw you."

"Garry..."

The boy shot the screen to John ignoring her, "So John..."

Before John could respond Garrett was tackled from the side by Everly, causing him to groan as the camera hit the table.

"Garry, say you love me." She whined throwing her arms around his neck.

"Everly!" He groaned lying down into the seat since she was basically on top of him.

"Say it."

The boy glared up at the girl who was still in his glasses.

"No! You're a jerk!"

She glared at him, not bothering to move and he tried to wiggle out of her grasp.

"Everly you realize you're like 20 pounds, if I really wanted to I could move you!"

"Well tell me you love me and I'll move for you!"

Garrett huffed as he stared up at the girl, "Fine. I love you."

"I don't think you mean it."

"I fucking love you!"

"Seemed to be more passion in that. So I accept it."

John laughed, "Dear god..."

The girl kissed his cheek and moved back next to John. Garrett grumbled as he sat up and brushed his hair from his eyes, "Go wake up Pat."

"Are you screwing with me?" She asked with a serious manner causing John to start laughing again.

"No! Go!"

"Yesss." She replied, running down the hall to Pat's bunk.

John chuckled as he relaxed in his seat as Garrett spoke, "She's insane."

"What? No. I like it." John stated with a grin.

Garrett raised an eyebrow at the boy and John rolled his eyes, "Not like that. She's just, I don't know, fun to be around. I like her here."

Garrett nodded as he eyed the boy. He couldn't help but wonder if their plan was in fact panning out exactly how they wanted. The look in John's eyes made him believe so. Who knew the girl held so much power?
