Without Warning

You were blood red.

Everly dreaded the conversation with Kennedy. She had went over and over what she would say in her head and yet she knew it wouldn't come out like planned. It never did.

Once they had arrived at the hotel after the show, most of them exhausted and ready to sleep in a real bed so the conversaton was pretty light. She couldn't help but become nervous. Kennedy was going to yell, she just knew it.

"Come over after you talk to him?" John asked, as they stopped in front of her hotel room which she was sharing with Kennedy.

She grinned and nodded causing a smile to hit John's lips.

"Great."

He leaned in, kissing her gently before walking to his own room. She breathed in deeply knowing Kennedy was already inside and she walked in.

Kennedy looked up from where he lounged on one of the beds.

"Ken, we need to talk."

"Ok? About?" He questioned, turning the volume down on the television.

"I can't do this whole John thing anymore." She just came out and said and the room went silent.

"Why?" He finally asked and she sighed, "Because, as bad as you think he is, he isn't. He's just unhappy."

Kennedy's eyebrows narrowed together, "And you like him. Figures. Didn't think he would win you over so easily."

"It isn't like that. Really, Kennedy, he just needs a friend. All of you treat him like he's this horrible guy when in reality he's just lonely."

"Oh and he told you this?"

"No, not in those words. I can just tell."

Kennedy scoffed, "I'm sure he's used that before. Touché though."

"You truly believe he's that manipulative?"

"You truly believe he isn't?"

"Yeah, I do."

Kennedy shook his head, "Whatever, Everly. Go get hurt. When he sleeps with you and ditches you like you are nothing don't say I didn't warn you."

Everly rolled her eyes, "Way to be negative."

"Yeah, well way to be nieve, sister."

She left the room, slamming the door behind her in a bit of anger which she should have suspected. She walked to John's door, knocking lightly and within seconds it opened revealing the boy in less clothing then she remembered.

"Well?" He asked, concern lighting his face as he let her in.

"Didn't go great."

"I'm sorry." He frowned, sitting on the bed, his eyes not leaving the girl.

"He told me I was stupid for believing you that this was typical you."

"Do you believe that?" He asked calmly and she shrugged, "Should I?"

"No, but you have to make that decision yourself."

"Just don't lie to me John."

"I'm not."

She sighed and he held out his hand to her. She gave in, grabbing a hold of it and he pulled her in his lap.

"Evie, I like you. I swear. This isn't a game to me, or just a move to get back at them. I would never do that to you. I've known you too long. You aren't just a random girl to me."

She met his green eyes and he brought his hand to her cheek, "You believe me?"

She nodded although she knew it shouldn't be that easy. He leaned into her, kissing her instantly and she relaxed in his arms as their kissing continued.

"I'm not sleeping with you, John." She said staring up at him once he laid her on the bed.

"I don't recall asking you to."

"Just pointing that out now."

He grinned, "Well, I guess I should appreciate the honesty."

She chuckled and he kissed over her jaw, "Well, are you ok with cuddling with me?"

She nodded and he laid on his side bringing her to his chest.

"Evie?" He whispered, playing with her hair as her eyes grew heavy.

"Mhm?"

"Are you staying the whole tour?"

"Yeah. Why?"

"Good. It's just nice having someone here. Most importantly you." He whispered and she kissed his chest lightly. She had no choice but to believe he was being honest with her. How could she not?

Everly woke up he next morning alone and she sat up in confusion as last night replayed in her head.

"Morning." She heard and looked up to see John walking out of the bathroom with wet hair and fresh clothes.

She grinned sleepily and he leaned down kissing her cheek.

"We still have a few hours. Want to go get breakfast?"

"Yeah, let me go to my room and shower and what not."

He nodded as she climbed from the bed. He grabbed her hand and pulled her to him.

"I'm going to prove to you that I'm serious about this." He mumbled into her hair.

"You don't have to. I believe you."

"I want to though."

She grinned, kissing his cheek before leaving his room. She crept into her and Kennedy's room and grabbed her things before going into the bathroom. By the time she was ready and walked out, Kennedy was sitting up in the bed. He watched her and she didn't dare speak as she packed her things.

"You not going to talk to me now?" He asked.

"I have nothing to say."

Kennedy sighed and the girl left the room running right into Garrett.

A groan escaped his lips and she couldn't help but giggle.

"This is getting ridiculous."

"I love you Gar bear."

"Right, so how did it go?" He questioned as they walked to the elevator.

"Not good."

"Figured."

"Thanks."

"Hey, I'm on your side you remember?"

"Yeah." She chuckled, hugging him as they waited on John.

"Finally!" Garrett spoke as John reached the pair. John rolled his eyes as they stepped onto the elevator. As much as John wanted her, he couldn't talk himself into a public display of affection. Even though, he wanted badly to reach over and grab her hand. He just knew the guys and they wouldn't let him lay that down. Plus, he truly was thankful for the simplicity of what they had. She understood him and he appreciated it more then ever.

Saying that, it didn't prevent him from sitting beside her at the table. Kennedy sat across from them, his looks enough to kill the both of them and if anything it pissed John off more and more.

"Do you think glaring at us is going to make it go away?" He finally spoke, causing the whole table to go into silence.

"I'm hoping so."

John grinned, "Right, well let me know how that works out for you."

Kennedy let out a harsh laugh, "John, you have no idea, buddy."

"Kennedy." Everly finally chimed in, shooting her brother a warning look.

"This truly is amusing. It really is. John has convinced you that he isn't a complete asshole and you've convinced him that you aren't a deceiving bitch. It works out well really."

"Hey!" Garrett snapped at Kennedy, "Sister or not, watch how you talk to her."

Kennedy rolled his eyes, "Whatever. You two deserve each other." He spat out, moving from the table and stomping to the elevators to go back to his room.

Everly sighed placing her hand to her face. How did things get so bad so quickly?

"Don't listen to him, Evie." John whispered, wrapping his arm around her waist.

"I'm not, he's just being so stupid."

"Wait, are you two..." Pat spoke as his eyebrows raised and a groan left Everly's lips. And now some how she was betraying Pat.

"Well, that's interesting." He calmly spoke, before leaving the table and she whined letting her forehead hit the hard marble surface.

"I'll fix that. No worries." Garrett spoke, grabbing Jared by his jacket and pulling him away to find Pat.

"Everyone hates me." She mumbled and John rubbed her back, "I warned you."

She sighed and turned her head enough to look at him.

"If it counts for anything, I don't hate you." He whispered, a weak grin hitting his lips.

She smiled, "It does."

He brushed her hair back and leaned in kissing her cheek, "They'll come around. They have no choice really."

"Maybe."

"Or you know, you could end this now by telling me to leave you alone."

"I don't want you to leave me alone." She stated seriously as she raised up from the table. John shrugged and without much thought she found herself kissing him.

"I don't want to either." He breathed, against her lips, "Come on, let's go grab our things. We need to start heading to the bus."

Everly nodded, allowing him to grab her hand and lead her to the floor all their rooms were on. She now was unsure if she should stay or go home, but then again, she wanted to be around John. Surely everyone could get over it...right?
