I Can't Believe How Bad You Got Me

She Said...

“What are you doing?” Jake asked as he walked in from the garage.

“It’s the Dungey baby’s gift!” I replied as I tied a bow at the top of a basket.

“… Is he going to sleep in that thing? It’s huge!” he countered.

“It’s the only thing that could fit everything I got it!” I groaned playfully.

“Spoiling that thing and it’s not even here,” he chuckled.

“Don’t you remember what all Ryan bought for Riley before she was born?” I couldn’t help but giggle.

“Do you Dungeys have a spoiling gene or something?” he taunted.

“It’s baby! It’s exciting!”

“Maybe we should have another one…” he wiggled his eyebrow as he came closer.

“I don’t think so,” I still couldn’t fight off my smile while I let my arms drape around his husky shoulders.

“Please,” he pouted down at me.

“Jake,” I whined and buried my face into his chest.

“Another little baby…” he kept going.

“Riley’s enough,” I told him.

“But she’s getting so big. She barely wants me to hold her anymore…”

“She likes you to hold her when she’s sleeping,” I butted in before he could go on.

“But that’s it! Pretty soon she’s going to be walking… and then the next thing, she’ll move out and run around with those dumb amateurs!” he kept going with his little story.

“Aw, Jakey,” I couldn’t help but coo.

Before he could keep up on it, our little girl’s whines could be heard through the baby monitor. After he planted a soft kiss to my forehead, Jake uncoiled his arms from around me and hurried off to the stairs. I heard his hurried footsteps go down the hall upstairs, leading into Riley’s room. Through the baby monitor, I could hear him cooing at her to calm her down. It’s so precious. I do want another baby, but… I think we should wait until Riley’s a bit older. I just… haven’t shared this with Jake yet. But that’s because I can spoil the Dungey baby that’s on the way!

When Jake came back down, Riley was resting her little head on Jake’s chest. Her eyes were opened, but still looked tired. Her long eyelashes would twitch slightly, telling me that she was still fighting off her sleep.

“Doesn’t want you to hold her anymore, huh?” I taunted once Jake looked back at me.

“She’s sleepy that’s why,” he grumbled.

“Say, I will always love you, daddy,” I smiled at her before kissing at her little cheek softly.

“Dada,” she mumbled tiredly.

Jake’s eyes quickly darted to me. They were the biggest that they could go. Even though this was a new milestone for our baby, it was so cute to see Jake’s reaction.

“She… she said…”

“Dada,” I smiled so brightly.

“Her first word!” he grinned with so much excitement now.

I didn’t know what to say. It was so precious! He had turned his focus back to his daughter though. He started leaving kisses all over her face, making her giggle.

“Say dada, baby girl,” he encouraged her.

“Dada!” she squealed, seeming to be wide awake now.

He was just bursting with joy. He lifted her up into the air; that smile never curling off of his lips. His actions caused our little girl to squeal. When he’d bring her back down, she babble on about her dada. The way Jake’s face lit up as she said that was something that melted away my heart. I love my two babies. And now… I really do want another one!

But that can wait! We’ll just enjoy this time with have Riley right now… and the new Dungey boy that’s only about a month away from being here. I can’t wait! In the mean time though, I’m going to have to work on that little girl so she’ll say momma. It’s just adorable that she said dada first, but... mommy needs to help her work those vocal cords a bit more.
