We Are the Revelation!

The Choice

I was scared. We could die heroes or live cowards. Well, being a hero is good… and we may not die… it’s only a possibility… maybe we’ll go. I thought. I gulped and looked at Sapphire. I nodded. Sapphire looked at Jinxx, who had his hand on his face. He was thinking.
“Ahem, Jinxx?” Sapphire said.
He looked up. “We would be honored to join your war.” He smiled.
“I am impressed at your bravery.” He said.
“You must visit Jake to receive your weapons and armor.” He proceeded to concentrate.
I heard a high-pitched screaming noise. I looked to see where it was coming from, and I saw a large coffin. It was black with silver edges and gold spikes sticking out of the sides. I assumed that this was the portal to this “Jake’s” realm. So I asked Jinxx if it was.
“Yes,” He said. “What you do is you cross your arms over your chest, stand at the foot of the coffin, and fall in naturally.”
I gulped. “Wouldn’t we, I don’t know, DIE when we hit rock bottom? We’d be falling pretty fast, don’t you think?”
Jinxx smiled. “Yes, you would.” He said. “But don’t worry, there’s failsafe magic encrypted into the coffin so that when you near the bottom, you slow down, which prevents crashing. You’ll be fine.”
I was still a little wary. What if the failsafe failed? But I mentally smacked myself and crossed my arms over my chest. I stepped towards the looming coffin. I heard small whispers… like the voices of ghosts. I smelled rotted flesh. It was a bloody nightmare! But going down there was something I had to so, so I sucked it up and fell in.
I screamed.
I was falling, at probably 240 miles per hour. The nasty death smells forced their way into my nostrils. The whispers turned into screams. I uncrossed my arms and started covering my nose so that I wouldn’t have to smell the rising odor. I saw a faint light, and I sensed that I was about to hit the bottom. I waited for the failsafe to work, but it didn’t. The ground was rushing up towards me at top speed. I screamed at the top of my lungs. Just when I was an inch from the ground, I stopped. Then I was slowly dropped down the rest of the way. That was actually a pretty good la- I was stopped in my thoughts. Two seconds later, Sapphire dropped out of the sky onto me. I groaned. She was heavier than she looked! I rolled over, So that I was facing the sky. Sapphire fell off me with an oof! I noticed that the sky was gray. I got up and looked around. There was no other figure in sight. I squinted. I saw a transparent figure roaming aimlessly. It was footless, with fingerless hands and a nose-less face.
A ghost.
“Hello? Can anyone hear me?” I shouted to the sky.
I was hoping for a ruler to reply. When I was almost certain that there was no one up there, I heard the loudest scream ever, louder than Ashley and C.C. put together!
“I AM THE GOD JAKE, ALSO KNOWN AS THE MOURNER. WHY ARE YOU HERE??” He said with the most force I had ever heard out of all the gods of this land.
I was wide eyed, open mouthed, and shocked.
“We come seeking weapons and armor. We are in the war.” I mumbled. Suddenly, I heard the screaming winds and felt the chilling blasts that signaled a tornado. The sound was coming from overhead, so I glanced to the sky. There, in the sky, was the same swirling mass that had brought us here. It swirled and crunched through the air, and we heard Jake’s voice grunting in the background. Suddenly, the hole widened. A silhouetted figure of a man slid out of the opening. As soon as the top of his head broke off of the hole, the aperture completely disappeared, as fast as it appeared. Mere seconds later, the figure was dropping at light speed. Sapphire jumped forward, as if she was going to attempt to save him. She then stopped, and we had the same premonition at the same time: the falling figure was Jake.

As Jake sped nearer and nearer to the solid, black cement, I began to worry that he may kill himself. But my fears were relieved as the silhouette disappeared and revealed a slender, 27-year-old man floating gracefully to the ground. He was sparkles. He had a pale face.
Sapphire leaned to my ear and whispered; “He reminds me of Edward Cullen. You know, from the Twilight series?”
I rolled my eyes. He looked NOTHING like Edward. As he landed, I began to see his facial features more clearly. He had spiked black hair, like Jinxx’s, that was messed and chopped. His face was dirty and, I admit, it was pale, and it had two black war markings on his left cheek. He had a leather vest over his shirtless chest which bore a Medal of Honor. His black jeans were ripped at the knee and the thigh. He had leather combat boots on his feet. On his hands were black sleeves that went to just above his elbow. His eyes were black as death. He walked closer. He stood a few feet away from us, as if at a military attention. He strutted over to Sapphire, who was blatantly afraid. Her short brown hair was frizzing in the humidity. Her blue eyes were bloodshot from crying and from bad air. Her clothes, like mine, were ripped and torn at every edge. Her purple Converse were about to tear apart. Jake’s judging eyes scanned every inch of her petite body. He raised his hand, and she flinched like there was no tomorrow. She started running in the opposite direction. Jake’s neutral expression quickly changed to a scowl. He held out his hand. Sapphire suddenly stopped running and started levitating. Jake made a pulling potion, and Sapphire responded by flying towards us. She screamed and curled up while Jake was dragging her across the jet streams. As her balled-up body arrived next to Jake and me, she dropped out of the air as Jake’s large hand came down. Right then, she broke down. She started crying there on the cement. Jake looked at her in disgust.
“You are unfit for battle.” He growled.
Sapphire’s eyes widened. She immediately jumped up and stood at attention, eyes watering.
“Still unfit. I must find a new recruit.” Jake said.
Sapphire started to boil, and I flinched. I knew what was going to happen.
