Moonlight

chapter six

The night of the full moon was show time for the alphas. Knowing that Selene and Lana had spied on Derek, Scott and Isaac at the animal clinic, Deucalion knew exactly what to expect. “They’re probably going to try to break in,” Lana had explained. “They know they can’t get away with just waltzing through the front door, and I imagine they’ve found those blueprints of how the former break-ins of this place. My guess is that they’re going to be coming in through the air vent that connects to the ceiling of the vault, in which Derek can probably break the wall and get in. Little does he know, however, that Boyd and Cora will be aching for blood.”

“Lana Cross the human, resident strategist,” Ennis rolled his eyes.

“Has she ever been wrong, Ennis?” Deucalion defended her. When Ennis didn’t respond, Lana smirked as Deucalion chuckled. “That’s what I thought.”

Selene held in her laugh. "That's what you get, Ennis," she smirked. The fact that even though Lana had been with them for about a year Ennis was still resentful towards her was entertaining, especially since Lana was a fully trained hunter that would stand strong in a fight with Ennis.

“Lana and Selene can pair up,” Deucalion decided. “We won’t need Lana on the roof tonight, and I’d like for them to stick together in case things don’t go according to plan.” The group then heard the door closing, despite its softness. “It appears that we would have a visitor,” Deucalion grinned. “Who would care to join me?” Kali and Ennis joined Deucalion to investigate the unwanted visitor, leaving Lana and Selene with the twins.

"Who do you think broke in?" Selene asked Lana before looking at the twins.

"I don't know but I'd like to them try and get past those three," Ethan smiled.

“I smell ammonia,” Lana frowned. “My cousin taught me to always carry ammonia with me when we’d be out hunting, it covers scents really well. I’d be willing to bet its Allison hiding out somewhere. Can we please just kill her already?” she rolled her eyes.

"There was a bottle of it in that closet where we put Erica's body," Selene remembered. If Allison was here, Selene thought, they might as well get rid of her before she causes trouble. Selene smirked at Lana. "Want to add another body to it?"

Lana laughed and then turned her attention to the vault, where they could hear Derek break through the wall as planned. “Or we could go check out what’s going on,” Lana suggested with a smirk.

Selene nodded as the two of them made their way over to the vault, only to have Boyd and Cora run right past them and out the bank. "Aw crap," Selene muttered. She and Lana ran back to the vault immediately. When they got there they saw a bloody and battered Derek and Scott arguing with Allison.

Lana yanked Selene away from the opening to the vault before anyone could see the two of them. She put a finger to her lips as the two of them snuck away from the vault, but remained within earshot. “We can’t have them see us,” Lana whispered to Selene. “I was gonna shoot Allison,” she lifted up her bow, “but looks like Derek has it taken care of for me.”

Selene nodded. "She must of been the one to break the line, given she's the only human," she whispered. "Setting free two blood thirsty werewolf out into the town, good fucking job Allison."

“Real nice,” Lana sarcastically agreed. “Oh, here she goes about her mom again. If she only knew,” Lana frowned.

"Ooh, looks like Scott's going to tell her," Selene grinned, rubbing her hands together. "I've heard some stories about this crazy ass bitch."

Story time with Scott, as Lana had referred to it, began as they started to leave. “Damn it,” Lana pouted, “I really wanted to see her reaction. We should head back to the apartment. I think your dad left with the emissary.”

Selene nodded. "This is their problem now," she shrugged as they walked away from the vault.

As they headed back to Lana's car, she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She couldn't help but smile as she read the text from Isaac, responding as she got in her car and putting her phone in the cup holder once she buckled her seatbelt. They were planning to meet up again at some point that week; Lana was just glad that they picked up right where they left off.

"Hey can we go to the store first? I'm quite hungry," Selene looked at Lana, only to see that she wasn't even paying attention to her. "Why are you so happy? I wasn't the one to text you."

"Oh, sorry," Lana laughed, "yeah, I'll head over there now. It should still be open."

Selene glanced at Lana's phone then back at Lana. "Who were you texting?” Selene questioned.

"Oh, don't worry about it," Lana tried to shrug it off. She hadn't exactly planned how to tell Selene that the boy she was in love with and had finally found was Isaac.

Selene looked at Lana; she knew that Lana was keeping something from her. "Alright fine," she said as Lana drove. As Lana pulled into the parking lot of the grocery store, she looked over and saw Isaac and Derek sitting in an SUV as Scott was speaking to Allison's father nearby. As Lana got out of the car with Selene, she and Isaac made eye contact and held each other's gaze. They winked at each other as Lana headed towards the store with Selene. "Is it bad to say that Mr. Argent can get it?" Selene asked as they entered the store. "Also, what do we need?"

"Not at all," Lana grinned. "We're low on snacks, I think."

"Good," Selene grinned as they made their way to the snack aisle. "I love food." Lana had grabbed some fruit on their way and felt her phone buzz again. 'Tomorrow night?' the text read from Isaac. Lana quickly responded asking what time before focusing on the snack aisle, hoping that Selene wouldn't keep pestering her about who she was texting. Selene glanced behind her and watched Lana text. "Curiouser and curiouser," she muttered before walking back over to Lana. "Okay, I think we got everything."

Lana just laughed at Selene. "Alright, Alice, you caught me. It's your dad. I'm going over to the penthouse tonight," she joked, accompanied by a sky, sarcastic smile.

In Derek's SUV while waiting for Scott, Derek looked over to Isaac who was smiling and texting. "Who the hell are you talking to?" Derek asked Isaac, who snapped back to reality and looked to Derek.

"Uh, no one," Isaac chuckled nervously. "No one at all whatsoever," his voice trailed off. Derek eyes Isaac suspiciously, clearly not buying it. Isaac realized he needed to cover, and fast; he decided bringing up Cora would be perfect, making Derek glare at him even more. “Or never,” he nodded, thankful that it worked.

Selene's eyes bugged out as she stared at Lana. "Lana, I swear to god, I will fuck you up," she stated, walking past her to pay for the food.

Lana giggled as she helped Selene unload their cart. "You were dying to know! I knew you wouldn't like the answer."

"You know what else I won't like? The lifetime of nightmares I'm going to have!" Selene said while paying for the food.

Lana shrugged as she continued laughing. "Not gonna lie, your dad's a dime." Even though it was true, she just needed something to get Selene to stop asking her about it.

"Try me, bitch!" Selene yelled walking out of the store.

"You know I'm kidding," Lana stuck her tongue out, opening up the trunk for them to put the grocery bags in. "Well, he is hot, but I'm kidding. No worries." She quickly glanced over to Derek's SUV and made eye contact with Isaac again as Scott got in Chris Argent’s car. They smiled as Lana got in her car and as she did such, Derek drove off with Isaac, following Scott and Chris.

Selene rolled her eyes as they got in the car. "Can we just get home so I can eat... and drink. Yep, definitely drink."

"Get a few drinks in me and I might just tell you who I've actually been texting," Lana teased, knowing she actually wouldn't.

"It's to end up being like Ethan or something," Selene muttered as they drove home.

"Yeah, I think Aiden said he wanted to join Duke and I and we figured why not," Lana winked, pulling into their designated parking space for the apartment.

Selene stared at Lana, not knowing how to react. "And I'm off to hang myself," she mumbled getting out of the car, taking the groceries out of the trunk and going up to their apartment.

"Don't hang yourself!" Lana pouted. "We've got plenty of wine and vodka to burn those images out of your head."

"Do we have anything stronger?"

"Baby you know I don't get shit like Everclear, I like to feel my throat after I drink," Lana shuddered. "We might have some Bacardi, I dunno how much though."

"You know what, just forget it," Selene said as they entered the apartment. "I think I'm just going to crash for the night."

Lana immediately noticed that something was wrong and it was more than just her joking about Deucalion’s looks. “What’s wrong? And don’t you dare tell me nothing,” Lana frowned. “I’m sorry, clearly something struck a chord.”

"I'm fine, I'm just tired," Selene waved her off before putting the groceries away. "Plus I don't want to wake up with a hangover," Selene told her.

“You and I both know that there is as much truth to that statement as there is to me having texted just Ethan or Aiden.” Lana had a few theories, but she didn’t dare bring them up. Even though she and Selene were incredibly close and have been for the past year, they still needed to dust out the dark corners of their closets.

"Lana, just drop it, okay?!" Selene snapped at her friend. This wasn't a conversation that she was up for having right now. "I'm going to bed," Selene muttered, walking away from Lana and to her room.

“Alright,” Lana’s frown grew. “Good night, if you need me you know where to find me.” Lana, who wasn’t quite tired yet, grabbed her backpack and laptop from her bedroom and headed out to the living room to work on homework and watch the news. She kept the volume quiet so she wouldn’t disturb Selene, and was shocked to hear that now three people had been found with their throats slashed and tied to trees, very much so in a threefold death fashion. As she finished up her homework, she began doing some research on the murders that had just happened. Since the names of the victims hadn’t been released yet, Lana couldn’t get any specific details but she already knew that these were definitely sacrifices. Her first guess was virgin sacrifices, as cliché as it sounded, but it wouldn’t surprise her considering none of the victims were reported to have been connected. Isaac texted her that he had some business to attend to with Scott and Derek concerned Boyd and Cora, so he wouldn’t be responding for a while. Lana used this to her advantage by delving deeper, using the skills she learned from her family’s pack to delve deeper into the cases. An interview came up with the girlfriend of one of the victims. Lana knew her; she had class with her a few years back. Lana searched for her on Facebook, seeing that they were listed as in a relationship with one another. She clicked on the victim’s name, pulling up her profile which was private, but her girlfriend’s wasn’t. She scrolled through and saw her last Facebook status: ‘special night planned for Em and I tonight. Can’t wait.’ Lana thought for a moment as to what that could mean before the realization hit her. “First time,” she whispered to herself. Lana then went to Stiles’ Facebook, searching for that girl Heather that he mentioned. There were a few, but she found the one it had to have been after seeing her tagged birthday party photos. She didn’t have many Facebook statuses, but there was a link to her Twitter page. Lana went there, and saw the tweet that confirmed her theory: ‘birthday tonight! #17 hopefully tonights the night #overit’ followed by a few Emojis, represented as squares on Lana’s laptop. “Oh my god,” Lana gasped. Both of them had to have been virgins. She couldn’t find any information on the third victim, but she didn’t even need to know. Two out of three was still pretty solid evidence. ‘Be careful,’ Lana texted Isaac, ‘These murders aren’t random. Stay safe xo’ as she headed to bed.
