Sequel: Family Goals

Keep It Kasual

Chapter 2

The next morning I woke to a cooler day. Peeking outside I noticed that it was cloudy and looked like it might rain. Bad weather for camera work unless I was inside. Seeing that I hadn’t hit the museums yet, I figured today would be the day for it.

Getting dressed I decided that layers would be the best thing, this way I wouldn’t be cold if I did go out and do some shooting in what I thought would be rain soon. After that I carefully packed my camera bag. I put on my rain jacket and shoes and _just_ before I headed out to begin my day; my cell rang. “Hello” I said as I answered it, figuring it was Frankie.

“Chut bébé, Bonjour Kalista? Vous souvenez-vous où vous mettez la formule? (Hush baby, Hello Kalista? Do you remember where you put the formula?)” I could hear Alexander near howling over the phone. That was one upset baby boy.

I remembered putting all of the baby food on the counter in the kitchen but not where it had been moved to since then. “Vous l'avez déplacé après le dîner est arrivé la nuit dernière. Je serai juste au-dessus de vous aider. (You moved it after dinner arrived last night. I'll be right over to help you.)” I grabbed my Tablet and added it to my camera bag. I then was on my way to their place.

I found the front door partially open and heard the howling. I let myself in and put down my things. Kris was trying to search for what he though Alexander needed and trying to keep his son from demolishing his place. I noticed that Alex wasn’t dressed in much so I stripped off my long sleeve shirt to my sleeveless top. Well there might be part of the problem; it was almost cold in the house.

I walked over and put a hand on Kris’ shoulder carefully. The relief in his eyes was immediate. “Let me take him while you look. It was on the counter before you moved it.” I took Alex and began swaying with him a little bit. I slipped a finger onto his tummy and felt the temp difference. “We’re going to go back to his room. Call if you find the formula.” I walked down the hallway with the 7 month old.

Getting into Alex’s room I checked his diaper, and changed it, I then added another layer of clothing. Both of those helped calm him down. He was still fussy but no longer howling. I picked him up and settled him against my chest. I then began making the shh noise, that also helped.

I was positive he was hungry now. I began trying to distract him while Kris kept searching for the box of food. I went to sit down in the rocking chair and found myself nearly sitting on the box. I couldn’t help but laugh aloud. Alex stopped crying as I did. “We’re really silly little man. Your papa is looking for your food and I almost sat on it.” I switched him to his crib for a moment and picked up the box. I grabbed Alex and headed up to the kitchen. “I found it!”

“T’ank God!” Kris said loudly as we came up the hall. “Où était-il? (Where was it?)” He took the box so I could take a firmer hold of the now squirming child.

“I nearly sat on it in the nursery. It was in the rocking chair.” Kris emptied the box onto the counter and shook his head. I switched languages, if this kept up the rust would for sure be off my French. “N'avez-vous pas le remettre à Max et lui dire de le ranger? Je pense qu'il ne savait pas ce qu'il y avait dans cette boîte. (Did you not hand it to Max and tell him to put it away? I do not think he knew what was in that box.)”

Kris smacked himself on the forehead. “Vous avez raison, je l'ai fait. Max n'a pas d'enfants donc il ne serait même pas penser. Au moins, il a été constaté. (You're right, I did. Max has no children so it would not even think. At least, it was found.)” He went and prepared a bottle for Alex.

“Nous pouvons être heureux qu'aucun de ces besoins d'être réfrigéré. Allez-vous utiliser une partie de la formule pour faire des céréales pour lui aussi? (We can be happy that none of these needs to be refrigerated. Will you use a part of the formula for cereal too?)” I held up the open box of infant rice cereal and tried to keep it away from the squirming child trying to get it.

“Sonne comme une bonne idée. On dirait qu'il sait ce que contient la boîte. (Sounds like a good idea. Looks like he knows what's in the box.)” Kris took it from me and began making some cereal for his son. “Pourriez-vous le mettez lui dans la chaise haute pour moi? Voyez-vous tout des bavoirs? (Could you put him in the high chair for me? Do you see any bibs?)”

I chuckled. “Il suffit de faire son petit déjeuner, lui est prêt à manger. (Just make his breakfast, he is ready to eat.)” I moved over to the high chair and strapped him in it, then I adjusted the straps as they were too tight. “Êtes-vous prêts à manger de grand garçon? Bien sûr vous êtes. (Are you ready to eat big boy? Of course you are.)” Alex squealed in delight.

Soon enough I took the cereal from Kris and began feeding Alex. He looked a bit affronted until I explained. “Have you had anything yourself? If not; now’s the time. I _have_ fed babies before. I _do_ have three younger brothers.”

Kris turned to make his own breakfast while I fed Alex. It felt very domestic and oddly not at all worrying. “Voulez-vous une crème ou du sucre dans votre café? (Would you like cream or sugar in your coffee?)” He had set a steaming mug next to me out of his son’s reach.

“Merci. Avez-vous des paquets de chocolat chaud? Le moka de pauvre homme est mon préféré. (Thank you. Do you have hot chocolate packets? The poor man’s mocha is my favorite.)” He rummaged around and found some. “Thanks.” I had my hands full at the moment with Alex who was now trying to grab the spoon from me.

“C'est la deuxième fois que tu m'as sauvé. Je dois penser à une façon de vous remercier. (This is the second time you saved me. I have to think of a way to thank you.)” His phone rang and he grabbed it off the wall. He walked out of the room we were in so I didn’t hear the conversation. He came back looking stricken. “Merde j'ai oublié que j'avais une formation aujourd'hui. Seriez-vous disposé à s'occuper de lui pendant quelques heures pour moi? Je pourrais vous payer pour votre temps. (Shit I forgot that I had training today. Would you be willing to look after him for a few hours for me? I could pay you for your time.)”

I thought about it for a moment, this was a big thing he was asking for. I had semi-made plans, but they weren’t firm. “Tell you what, I’ll watch him while you’re training if we’re allowed to come with you for my own peace of mind. I can watch him and if you don’t like anything you can stop me right away.” I don’t think it dawned on him that I might not be comfortable being outside his sight.

“Ça sonne bien. J'obtiens de plus en plus dans votre dette. (Sounds good. I am getting more and more in your debt.)” He grabbed a jacket after seeing mine and then went to check the diaper bag for Alex. “Quand il a est fait, feriez-vous s'habiller lui convenablement pour la météo, svp. (When he is done, would you dress him appropriately for the weather, please.)”

Alex was done so I cleaned him up roughly and smiled. “Sure. I’ll pack the bag with extra clothes too if you’ll hand it to me.” He handed me the bag and Alex and I went back to his room. I knew it was looking like rain so I went through and found some warm outerwear for him. I added a blanket just in case and then I grabbed a couple sets of clothes. Dom may be 14 now, but I remember when he went through several sets of clothes in one outing.

As we came out of the back rooms I set the diaper bag on the couch and began buckling Alex into his car seat. I found a light hat in the bag and was putting it on Alex when Kris spoke. “ ‘e doesn’ like toques or mitaines. T’rows t’em off as soon as ‘e can.”

I chuckled. “No baby likes them, he can humor me while we’re out in the weather. Looks like it might rain.” Before I could hoist up the car seat, Kris grabbed it. We went down to the parking garage and moved my car into his second spot. Then we went to hit his gym.

Kris wasn’t the only hockey guy at the gym this morning, but he was the only one I knew. The gym set Alex and I up in a safe area and while we got busy doing our thing, Kris got busy getting ready for the next season.

Alex and I played for a little bit and then he began whining a touch. No one else could hear us over the music that was playing so I grabbed the sookie and offered it to him. He spit it across the room, hitting funnily enough Kris with it. He turned toward us and looked oddly. I mouthed the word sorry at him and then he found what had hit him.

“Going for distance t’is time. Before I called you he hit t’e same spot on the tv 4 times.” He handed it back to me while I giggled and grabbed the bottle.

“He’s still a little hungry I think. I might be able to get him to conk out if we’re lucky.” I tucked the cloth around his chin and offered Alex the bottle. The little greedy gus took it and sucked as if his life depended on it. If it wasn’t the truth, it would be annoying.

He chuckled and stroked Alex’s forehead. “You are really good wit’ ‘im. I can not t’ank you enough.” The guys behind him began chirping at him. Kris rolled his eyes and gave Alex a quick kiss. “We’re ‘alfway done. I better get back.”

I watched him walk back to his workout and had the most embarrassing thought. Damn there is _no bad view on him, look at that ass! To try and cover my embarrassment, I put all of my attention to Alex and began softly singing him a lullaby.
