Shortly after getting out of a nasty marriage, Avery, now 23 years old, moves in with her mother in Forks, Washington. Avery wants to be able to support herself and her four year old daughter, Halle. She gets a job at the same Hospital as Carlisle Cullen and is immediately drawn to him.
Carlisle has been a single father for almost six months after Esme left him to join her new lover in a coven that feeds on humans instead of animals. He tries to not let it show, but the break up has been hard for him and he wants to be happy again. Once Avery enters his life, he is determined to not let her go.
