Send Me Your Amnesty

Part Three: The In Between Years (Chapter 5)

June 2003 Dear Billie Joe,
Amnesty has started playing softball. She’s a cute little player. She plays out field and short stop. She’s a cute batter too; she has to use a T a lot, as she’s new to the game. But she likes it. It’s something fun to do in the summer heat. ~Felicity

July 2003 Dear Felicity,
Joey is still playing soccer and he’s getting really good. He plays offense--forward a lot, but then he gets tired and his coach puts him on defense for a little bit; then he’s back on offense. I’ve been to a few of his games and I watched him score some goals. I’m so proud of him. He plays baseball too, just not as much. It’s mainly in the summer time.
Jakob has started playing T-ball this summer and Joey and Jakob practice with each other. They go outside and just toss a ball back and forth. It’s so cute to watch. It makes me and Adrienne proud parents.
Both of them love to swim and I’m teaching them to surf and skateboard. They are young and it’s hard, but it’s a fun experience. ~Billie Joe

May 2004 Dear Billie Joe,
I would like to announce to you that my brother Karsh and his partner have adopted a baby boy. Karsh and his partner, Grant Bower proposed to each other back in 2002 and now they are starting a family. Their son Collin Levi Bower was born on March 4, 2004. They used Karsh’s last name as the first name. The middle and last name are Grant’s father’s name and last name, respectively.
Amnesty was really excited to meet her first cousin. Karsh had agreed to let Amnesty babysit if she want to make some extra cash. ~Felicity

September 2004 Dear Felicity,
Jakob just turned 6 and just started Kindergarten. Joey was such a good big brother, showing his nervous little brother where to find his classroom and where to go after school to be picked up. I was so proud of Joey when Jakob told me what Joey did. The two are really close, I’m so glad they are. I was never close with my siblings, too many years in between our ages. I took them out for ice-cream as a reward for being the best two sons ever. ~Billie Joe

October 2004 Dear Billie Joe,
I’m glad to find out, through your music, is that we have the same political views. This is the biggest punk thing you’ve done in a long time! “American Idiot” hit it big—everywhere. Karsh loves it. (We’re all in favor of a new political leader—preferably one who is pro-gay rights.) I hear my students talk about it and I even hear kids at Amnesty’s school talk about it—although Amnesty seems oblivious to it all. She has never mentioned Green Day to me. I’m surprised Karsh hasn’t mentioned anything to her thus far…
I honestly want to give you a big hug for writing “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” I know how much the song means to you. And it was very brave of you to put that song out there. ~Felicity
