Send Me Your Amnesty

Part Three: The In Between Years (Chapter 1)

December 1995 Dear Felicity,
Haha, very funny… but I’m touched that you listen to my music. You don’t know how much that means to me. I’m glad you like it.
So it’s been a year and I haven’t told a soul (except for my dog). Only 17 more to go. I wish you and Amnesty, and hell even Karsh a wonderful safe, happy holiday and new year. ~Billie Joe P.S. And yes, I was mad at the world when I wrote those songs.

September 1996 Dear Billie Joe,
Amnesty is two now. She’s walking and talking. Growing up beautifully. We went to my mom’s for a little celebration. We had strawberry shortcake and Amnesty was scared to blow out her candles. It was more like she didn’t know what to do. I sat beside her and helped her blow them out.
Then Karsh took me and Amnesty out for dinner. We went to Applebee’s. Amnesty got a free dessert.
We opened a few presents and I think she liked her stuffed duck the best. She named it Duckie. She takes it everywhere. We went to the park and Karsh came along and he put Amnesty in a little baby swing for the first time and she loved it. She was laughing and talking to Duckie the whole time Karsh was pushing her on the swing. ~Felicity

February 1997 Dear Felicity,
Joey is two now too. Adrienne made him a chocolate cake which he was very excited to blow out the candles and then shove his hand into the cake and then shove a handful of cake into his face. It was the cutest thing. Adrienne kneeled down to give him a kiss and Joey shoved a handful of cake in her face and laughed. I laughed too. Adrienne wasn’t so amused and she threw a little piece of cake at me. I went over a painted her face with frosting. Joey was enjoying playing with his food too. We had a little food fight. I’m not sure if any of us actually got to have some cake, a lot of it ended up on the floor or on our faces. We made sure to take a pic to capture the moment.
After we all cleaned up, Joey opened up a few presents and his favorite gift was a little stuffed Blue, the puppy from Blue’s Clues. I’m sure you know what that show is, Amnesty must watch it; it’s on every day. Joey loves it. He brings it around the house and sleeps with it, but we won’t let him bring it out of the house. We don’t want him to lose it. ~Billie Joe

November 1997 Dear Billie Joe,
Once again you have out done yourself. I really like Nimrod. I think it’s one of the best Green Day albums out so far. You must be very proud of it. I like “Prosthetic Head” and “The Grouch”.
Karsh told me he’s going to see Green Day in concert on the 23rd in Indy. Don’t be looking for me, I’m not going. But I do wish you good luck. He still doesn’t know. He has the courage to come out to me and my mom and tell us he’s gay, yet I can’t tell him that YOU, Billie Joe Armstrong, are Amnesty’s father. I’m afraid he’ll get super mad at me and stop being a Green Day fan and just throw his life away. He’s put just as much dedication into idolizing you as I have trying to keep this “friendship” of ours going back and forth. I can’t do that. My brother and I are really close and he came out to me when he was 18 years old. He wrote me a letter; I was away at college (Stanford). He came out to me way before he came out to our mom. He told our mom this year, just a few months ago. He didn’t think our mom would believe him so he brought me and his boyfriend of two years (friend of five) to bear the news. I’m thinking to myself that I shouldn’t be telling you all this stuff about Karsh, but he and I are so close and I’m kind of stressing about how, when, and if to tell him about our little secret. ~Felicity

Karsh is gay, he has a partner and will later have two kids. If you are uncomfortable with gay people then that's your homophobic problem and it's your choice to keep reading...I promise there will be no homosexual sex scenes as this is a PG-13 story... Just a fair warning to all you non-accepting, small minded, homophobes out there.
