Even the Sun Sets in Paradise

They say that a mother is she who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take. I lost my mother a long time ago. She didn’t die, although in a sick way, I think it would have been easier if she did. I can’t imagine any of this would have happened if she did.

People always tell me that I’m strong for having gone through all of this. I disagree. I am not strong and I’m tired of being told that I am. I gave up on myself. Surely that makes me weak. Then again, who can blame a person for giving up on themselves when everyone else has done just that?

After everything that has happened, you would assume that I would be pretty messed up. Strangely, I’m not, although I do feel it sometimes. Moving to live with my auntie allowed me to have the new start I needed. A new place allowed me to make a new life and be a new person. This is the story of how I overcame the demons of my past, at the same time as preparing for my future, without compromising the simplicity of my present.
