Fear.

Okay, so I'm not one for reading original works - nor writing it very often - but when I do write it, I absolutely put myself into the character.

I love finding out what people's opinions of my writing is so I wanted to post it. This was for my last A-Level year coursework and I got a damn good grade on it and exceedingly positive feedback so that's another reason I'm choosing to share it.

We were told - in short - that we had to choose a piece by one of many writers listed and transform it. For the first piece I chose the poem Fear by Raymond Carver. I will also post the commentary we had to write which explains why I chose it and why I wrote it how i did, blah, blah, blah. Gives good insight though so it is absolutely worth reading to comprehend some parts.

Here is the poem that I either took ideas from of exact lines (it all had to be in my piece somehow)-

Fear of seeing a police car pull into the drive.
Fear of falling asleep at night.
Fear of not falling asleep.
Fear of the past rising up.
Fear of the present taking flight.
Fear of the telephone that rings in the dead of night.
Fear of electrical storms.
Fear of the cleaning woman who has a spot on her cheek!
Fear of dogs I've been told won't bite.
Fear of anxiety!
Fear of having to identify the body of a dead friend.
Fear of running out of money.
Fear of having too much, though people will not believe this.
Fear of psychological profiles.
Fear of being late and fear of arriving before anyone else.
Fear of my children's handwriting on envelopes.
Fear they'll die before I do, and I'll feel guilty.
Fear of having to live with my mother in her old age, and mine.
Fear of confusion.
Fear this day will end on an unhappy note.
Fear of waking up to find you gone.
Fear of not loving and fear of not loving enough.
Fear that what I love will prove lethal to those I love.
Fear of death.
Fear of living too long.
Fear of death.

I've said that.

So, I hope I can get at least a few readers and some feedback, this story was quite hard to write at times because of how it is styled - you shall see why when you read - please let me know what you think!

Be warned - It's written really in-depth and it can be a very confusing piece.
  1. Fear.
  2. Commentary
A little insight into the 'why's of this piece. Worth a read to further understand some aspects of the piece.
