Alone

The girl shuddered underneath her blanket, surrounding herself in darkness as her door was closed, her blinds shut tight. The barking of a dog outside that wouldn’t let up and a few cars that passed her street had started to keep her up that night, and before she knew it, she was lying there, wide awake. Her thoughts, she had hoped, would take her to a magical place where her boyfriend would wrap her in his arms and whisper sweet nothings in her ear, or he'd take her out on a date at some cute little Italian restaurant where they'd share Tiramisu and bad jokes.
