Hitting the water would feel like a full body slap, maybe knock you out. If you were still conscious, the cold would steal your breath. Your wet clothes and shoes would drag you down.

I think it would be peaceful, for a moment. Suspended in the quiet. Letting go.

But then your chest would burn for air. Your last exhale might be a scream. You’d struggle in the frigid darkness to find your way back up. And when you couldn't take it anymore, you’d inhale desperately and choke as the water fills your lungs.
