My Twisted Teenage Romance

Chapter 1

‘’Aww come on you guys! Don’t make me go in there.’’ I pleaded as my two closest friends pulled me towards a giant house flooding with people and pulsing with loud music.

‘’Nikki, I am not missing this party because of you.’’ Jenny said in a rather sing song voice.

I had known Jenny since I was five. She lived two doors down from me and our parents were close friends, so naturally, having spent so much time together, we to became the best of friends. Jenny was rather bubbly for the family she came from. Her brother had recently been let out of a juvenile detention centre for assaulting someone in the school parking lot, and her parents had been talking, more like screaming, of divorce for months now, it was hard on Jenny although she never let it show. She always had a smile shining brightly across her face, which could only be described as one that should be seen on one of those ‘reality’ shows about rich kids from California.

‘’Nikki, do you know how many single girls are in there right now getting drunk?’’ Jason asked pleadingly.

‘’No Jason I don’t why don’t you and Jenny go in and find out while I wait out here.’’ I said pleasantly, still fighting them as they pulled me towards the house.

Jason on the other hand was bisexual and to the quick passer by, seemed average, nothing out of the ordinary. He was no more than six feet tall, and had a muscular build with short brown hair. It was however, his eyes that stood out among all his features. They were a piercing shade of green, and if he looked at you the right way, it was almost impossible to say no to him. I had learned to evade the look after grade ten, when he had convinced me to ask out the cute senior that every girl wanted but no one really had the guts to ask.
As you can imagine this did not go well. On my way over to talk to him I had tripped over a stray backpack and did a full out nose-dive, landing just and inch away from his feet. After that I didn’t speak to Jason for a week.

‘’If you refuse to come on your own, don’t think I wont put you over my shoulder and carry you.’’ Jason said, still inching me towards the door.

‘’Is that a threat?’’ I asked, raising my eyebrows.

‘’Yes it is, now move.’’ Jenny said, giving me one good shove and sending me halfway up the driveway.

I huffed and walked unwillingly up the rest of the driveway towards the open front door of Peter Sinclair’s house.
Peter Sinclair was the youngest son of one of the richest families in town. He was also strangely infatuated with me, this was my reason for not wanting to go. He had tried on many occasions to ask me out and I on many occasions had turned him down politely, it was only recently that I had become more blunt in my rejecting him.
He couldn’t seem to grasp why I didn’t like him, all the other girls did, which is exactly why he wanted me, because I said no. It wasn’t that he wasn’t good looking, because he was very handsome, it was because he was a cocky spaz who walked around as if he owned the place. His family did own most of the land in the small town, but that was no reason to be a jerk.

‘’Nikki you came!’’ said an elated Peter from just inside the door.

‘’How could I stay away?’’ I said with a hateful glance to my friends, who were already starting to move inside to the party.

‘‘Come on in.’’ Peter said, moving out of the doorway.

‘’Thanks.’’ I mumbled as I stepped quickly through the door. He was quick to walk beside me as I started to look for Jason and Jenny.

‘’So d’you wanna dance?’’ Peter asked

‘’Actually I uh- have to talk to Jenny, about something very important. So uh- maybe later.’’ I said with a very fake smile and then hurried away.

Jenny was standing in a small group of people, talking animatedly to a guy you didn’t recognize.

‘’Seriously, me too!’’ Jenny was saying as I walked over.

‘’I hate you.’’ I sang as I pushed in next to her.

‘’Oh nice to see you to Nikki.’’ she said with a grin and the guy she was talking to cleared his throat.

‘’Oh my bad, Nikki this is Adam, Adam, Nikki.’’ Jenny said, gesturing back and forth.

‘’But anyways, so then last week…’’ Jenny restarted her conversation with Adam but I tuned out and surveyed the room instead.

Jason was walking by and I grabbed the back of his shirt and pulled him towards me.

‘’How could you just leave me back there with him?’’ I asked in a whisper

‘’Aw come on, maybe some bonding time is all the two of you need to really get acquainted.’’ he said with an exaggerated wink.

‘’You’re not funny.’’ I said, shoving him into a girl who was walking by. He hit her full on, almost spilling the drink she had in her hand.

At first she looked furious, but as she looked up I knew he was giving her the irresistible look I had grown to ignore. She was a pretty looking blonde, with a low cut blue shirt and low rise pants that easily allowed the top of her thong to show. She started to smile and he ran his hand quickly through his hair as she spoke to him. She started to twirl a strand of hair and I knew she had fallen for the look. She flipped her hair and laughed at whatever he had said and then nodded towards the dance floor.
She grabbed his hand and wrapped his arm around her shoulder as she led him away. He turned back to me, winked and then mouthed ‘thanks’. I rolled my eyes and then turned back to Jenny.

‘’You want a drink?’’ I asked her, desperate for an excuse to leave this horrible conversation.

‘’Yea sure, get me a coke?’’ she said and I nodded before leaving and heading towards the kitchen.

I weaved through the crowd on my way to the kitchen, pushing the odd drunk person out of the way and waving to people I knew. When I finally got to the kitchen it was almost as crowded as the main room. People were leaning against the table, the counter, the stove, and everyone was standing in groups, except one guy who was standing next to the fridge, sipping from a red cup and looking like he really didn’t want to be there.

He stood out, not only because he was completely alone but also because he was strangely, beautiful. All his features were practically perfect. He had to be at least a head taller than me and he had a very chiselled, muscular build. He had pale skin with jet-black hair that hung just over his eyes, which were dark blue, and he had on black eyeliner, that made them jump out even more, and to top it all off he had snakebites. He was just so perfect in every way.

He looked at me and I quickly opened the fridge door and busied myself with finding drinks. Just then two girls, who had earlier been on the other side of the kitchen, staring at this guy and giggling a lot, walked over and ever so subtly pushed their way in so that they were standing in front of him.

‘‘Hi.’’ one of the girls said. She had long brown hair and was wearing a very low cut shirt.

‘’Hey.’’ he said but he really didn’t look interested.

‘’I’m Jamie and this is Rosie.’’ Jamie said, nodding at her friend.

‘’Jacob.’’ he said flatly.

‘’So how do you know the Sinclair’s?’’ Rosie asked, stepping slightly towards him. They pretty much had him back into a corner.

‘’Peter’s my second cousin.’’ Jacob said, his tone was screaming with boredom.

‘’Then how come we’ve never seen you around here before?’’ Jamie asked, ever so slightly biting her lip at the end.

I couldn’t help but think how stupid these girls looked. He clearly wasn’t interested, but still, here they were and lucky for them, he was nice enough not to tell them just to shut up and go away.

‘’I haven’t really spent much time here.’’ Jacob said, now not even looking at them.

‘’Well, if you needed like a tour guide or something, we know this town inside and out.’’ Jamie said.

‘’Thanks but I think I know my way around well enough.’’ he said and both girls looked like they had been slapped in the face. That right there had been a flat out ‘go away’.

‘’Well we’ll see you around then.’’ Rosie said and then both girls left the kitchen.

I couldn’t help but laugh at how they kept trying, even after he had oh so subtly rejected them. It kind of made me think of Peter and I laughed a little louder.

‘’Do you find that funny?’’ Jacob asked as I came out of the fridge with two cokes.

‘’No not at all.’’ I said, suddenly shocked that he was speaking to me.

He raised his eyebrows.

‘’Well ok maybe a little but I mean come on, that was priceless.’’ I said and couldn’t help but laugh a bit at the end.

He smiled and I was taken aback by how stunning it was. I cleared my throat and pulled myself out of the trance, cast by his smile.

‘’I’m Jacob.’’ he said, still smiling

‘’Nikki.’’ I said and shook the hand he held out to me.

‘’So you’re Nikki?’’ Jacob asked as if I was famous or something.

‘’Last time I checked.’’ I said with a bit of a laugh.

‘’Whenever Peter’s over he tends to complain a lot about how you never say yes when he asks you out. It really is rather pathetic to listen to.’’ Jacob said with a grin.

‘’Well I’m sorry you have to put up with that.’’ I said, not really knowing what else to say.

‘‘Yea.’’ he said, looking away for a second.

‘’Well I’ve got to take this back to my friend so I’ll see you around I guess.’’ I said with a smile.
He smiled back and I quickly left the kitchen. I went back to where Jenny was standing and pushed the cold can against the bare part of her back.
