"Connor, come to Mommy!"

These were one of the rare moments when my mother ever wanted me to go near her. I was cautious as I felt like I was finally ready to do it. Last week, I attempted to respond to Daddy when he asked me if I wanted some soup, which was apparently a big kid's meal.

I hobbled up from the living room rug to stand. I was able to walk now and gosh did I enjoy it. I felt like my own man as I rushed over to her. The biggest and brightest smile was planted across her face, which told me she was happy to see me.

She pulled me into her lap as she placed a book in front of my face. She was ready to read to me.

"There once was a boy named Mason
who rode his scooter out to Jason's...."

"Kitty!" I shouted and pointed to the cat that, I believe, was on Jason's porch.

My mother screamed as she called for my father. He raced into the room and was shocked to hear the news.

"Wow son, it seems you are a big kid now!"

But why didn't I feel like one?
