Mary's mother and brother are dead, and her father left. She moves to the Texas suburbs with her grandmother where she meets a boy that claims the stars taste like water.

Kyle is a broken boy. His parents divorced when he was young and his father's dead. He never got to hear his last words because he had been listening to music. He lives amid the Texas suburbs, and makes friends with the new girl with no name.
