Two Little Voices

The Advice

I dropped the ice cream cone. It had begun. Mae looked to her left and right, biting her fingernails. She glanced back at the floor. There it was, lying undisturbed on the ground, a wallet. From the looks of it the wallet was filled with an abundance of… riches. Mae glanced at her watch before she resumed biting her nails. It was meant to be if it was just lying there on the ground for anyone to take, for Mae to take. I watched as two small creatures appeared on Mae’s shoulders. I got off the swings and sat down on the bench directly behind her. Now I could hear.

“I know. I can buy the tickets with that. But I can’t just take it.” Mae whispered to the creatures, turning her head first left then right. “Well I can take it…its wrong I’m not- Fine!” Mae looked around once more and picked up the wallet.

It seemed she had decided to take it. My job was almost complete. I searched for my phone in my backpack and prominently called to report my findings.

“Hello, it’s me. Yeah- she took it. It’s done. She got the advice. The wrong one.”
