Green Ribbon, Green Ribbon

head

With her raven hair and snow skin and storm cloud lips, I loved Lulu more than I can explain.

We read in bed together, our fingers tracing along the black and white lines, racing to see who could finish a page first.

We swung on the swings where we had first met, our feet kicking up a cloud of grey dust to see who could touch the dull sky first.

We held each other's pallid hands through all the troubles of life, giving all the hope and encouragement we could.

But she was always sad, and I never knew why. I think it had something to do with that green ribbon.
