Naruto just stared at me wide-eyed. I automatically looked around and to my luck Jiraiya and I locked eyes, bringing back the horrible memories and along with it regret. 'Ugh,' I looked around again but this time I then locked eyes with the Elder. She gave me sympathetic look, filled with sadness and yet hope. 'Great,' I thought angrily', 'Surprise, regret, hope.' It was too much for me to handle.
Without a word I stood and headed for the door. "Eh, hey," it was Naruto, "where are you going?" I felt Jiraiya's stare burn through my chest and I visibly shuttered. 'I can't control myself in this state.'
"Leaving," I opened the door, "It's too tense here." Aria followed me out.
( Naruto POV)
"Eh?" Jiraiya sighed and started to head after her. "Now wait just a sec!"
He stopped and turned towards me, "What Naruto?"
"She's part of Konoha, yet I've never seen her before." I rose to my feet, "She's part of Konoha, but she doesn't live there. What is she a rogue?"
Jiraiya and the Elder looked at one another and bursted out laughing in unison. "Eh?" The Elder "Artemis, a rogue. HA!" Jiraiya was on the verge of tears from laughing. I just sat their, feeling my temper starting to raise. "WILL YOU STOP LAUGHING!"
Jiraiya wiped his tears from his eyes. Sitting back in his seat he motioned for me to sit as well, "Calm down Naruto."
"No, not until someone--" I was interrupted by the Elder "JUST SIT DOWN YOU IDIOT AND WE'LL TELL YOU!"
Scared for my life I rushed and sat back down to my seat. 'This lady reminds me of Granny Tsunade, except... deadlier.' Pervy -sage couldn't help but chuckle, "Wow for once you actually did what you were told." I rose back to my feet about to argue when the old lady's hazel eyes gave me a death stare, instantly forcing me to sit back down. She gave a smirk and nodded for Jiraiya to continue.
Sighing Jiraiya leaned his forearms on his knees, "Lets start from the first day I meet Artemis..."
(Artemis POV)
As I walked out Aria kept giving me sideway glances. I sighed, "Take a picture, it'll last longer" She just growled at me and turned her head with that sassy attitude of hers.
We walked in silence for a bit until she wondered aloud, "You think they're telling your life story."
I shook my head, "No because not one of them knows the truth. The real truth...."
(Jiraiyas POV)
---FLASHBACK---------
It was 11 years ago and I still remember it as if it were yesterday. Tsunade and I were walking through a forest, maybe a 3 days travel from the Village's gates, looking for any signs that Orochimaru might still be in the area. "It's no use Jiraiya, there's no sign of him." Tsunade sighed placing her hands behind her head looking at me with concerned eyes, she knew how much I wanted to save him. "Let's keep looking." I said bluntly trying not to make eye contact with her. She just sighed as I quickened my pace and went ahead of her.
After a couple of more hours of walking she grabbed my wrist, making me come to a halt. "Jiraiya, that's enough. He's not here and we can't just keep wandering around for months hoping he'll come our way," I tried to break away from her but she just tightened her grip even more, 'Damn her inhuman strength', "Jiraiya we have to go back to the village."
She was right, I knew she was, but I was too stubborn back then. Heck I still am now. You see the Village was just attacked a couple of years back by the Kyuubi, but Konoha was still repairing the damages so every ninja had to help out. Which is what we were doing until we spotted Orochimaru just a few days ago, trying to get Anko again. I knew I wanted to save him but at the same time I wanted him dead for what he's done. It would take me a couple of more months until I would finally realize that there was no point in going after him, but during that search with Tsunade I was determined as ever to find my best friend.
"And what, just give up on him like that?" I yelled shocking her so much I was able to break free from her, glaring at her, "Orochimaru was out team mate! Don't you remember any of that, we can't just leave him, we have to-"
"THAT'S ENOUGH!" Tsunade clenched her fist and I cold feel a wave of chakra starting to roll off from her, "I want things to go back as they were as much as you do, but wondering around while our village needs us is just plain out stupid and selfish!"
I was taken back a bit, not because of her words but because of the chakra that was hitting me. It was as if someone was stabbing me in the gut with a kunai. It wasn't long until Tsunade felt it too. Clutching her stomach I saw her move her eyes around the trees searching from where the chakra was leaking from. I looked along with her, until finally, 'There.' I motioned Tsunade to follow me. Climbing up the tree I could see a figure behind the bush shaking uncontrollably. Tsunade was the first to leap down from our hiding place and land in front of the enemy, I landed only a second later stunned by what I saw.
Sitting their with her head tucked into her knees was a little girl with blonde hair and big green eyes. Was she the one sending off all hat chakra? Sensing that someone was there She looked up and saw us, Tsunade gave her a tiny smile, the girl gasped and hid her head again back into her knees. I couldn't help but chuckle, "Looks like guys aren't the only ones you send running over the hills."
A vein popped out of Tsunade's head and her face turned extremely red, the girl gasped and clutching her chest she laid her light green eyes on Tsunade. And there it was, the wave of chakra hit me in the chest this time. Automatically not wanting to scare the girl Tsunade's anger subsided as she bent down to the little girls level with a friendly smile, "Don't worry we won't hurt you." Instantly as Tsuande gained her composure the girl's hand went to her side and her breath returned to normal and she was actually looking at Tsunade with a genuine smile.
I sat on the ground and giving the girl a grin I said, "Hey there, where's your parents?" She ducked her head back into her knees, aww crap...
"Jiraiya give her some space!" Tsunade barked. Not wanting to scare the little girl I back up until I was behind Tsunade and said, "Hey no worries. I'm over here now."
Looking up the girl stared at me and Tsunade, "W-who a-are y-you?"
"I'm Tsunade," pointing at her self and then at me, "and the loud mouthed one over here is Jiraiya."
"I am not a loud mouth!" Tsunade instantly smacked me on the back of my head, ouch :'(
And then the girl started to laugh and I swear all i heard were bells. "What's you name?" I asked carefully not wanting to scare her again, but after Tsunade's fist meeting my neck, she lost all her shyness and was grinning at us when she answered, "I'm Artemis! :3"
"Well Artemis," Tsunade got closer to her but with her hand warned me back, "what are you doing here in the woods all alone?"
"I really don't know..."
"What about your family?"
"I don't have one..."
"No home? Relatives? anything?"
Artemis shook her head.
Tsunade and I looked at each other, "Looks like we have no choice." I said breaking the silence. Artemis stared at me with a confused face while tilting her head to the side, "What's that?"
I picked her up and latched her onto my back, carrying her on a piggyback, "We're going to take you to Konoha!"

"So after that Tsunade and I took her to the hokage, adopted her to a family, and she began her training like any normal ninja would. A couple of months later Tsunade left while I followed in her wake a couple of years later and that was the last time I saw Artemis."
"But she had an Anbu tattoo..." Naruto was lost in thought. I nodded my head, "Yes she became part of the Anbu at the age of 10. A jonin at 9, and a chunin at 7."
"What?!?!" Naruto's eyes were almost popping out of his head. The Elder stared at me with knowing eyes. So yeah, I wasn't telling Naruto the whole story, but I think that's something Artemis would want to say herself. I mean it is her power.
"S-so," wow Naruto was lost for words that's a first, "why did she leave the village?"
I sighed, "No one knows, but I can tell you that she did have permission from the Third to do so. That's why no one has ever gone after her."
(Naruto POV)
I stared at Jiraiya until the Elder spoke up.
(Attempts s POV)
Aria and I were walking around the clearing until we heard running footsteps come hurriedly to camp and before I knew it I was writhing on the floor in pain. Aria was at my side in an instant and slipped an herb into my mouth, Gosh I really hated the bitter taste. But whatever, it did what it needed to and I was back on my feet running with Aria at my side, towards the camp's entrance. There we saw exactly what I felt, Three of our warriors were wounded terribly, one with an eye town out and the other two trying to hold the blood from their wounds gushing out, and then I saw Star, my best friend limping past the worried crowd into the storage den. 'Idiot,' I thought angrily as I shouted to an apprentice to grab me a bucket of water and ordered everyone to carry the three in Star's hut, 'She'll kill her self by trying to take care of them before her self.'
I sighed. 'That's what you get for taking the responsibility by being in a Clan. Idiots.'
But I knew I was just angry at myself. I couldn't completely heal them in my state of health and I knew that I should've gone on patrol with them, but I was too scared to go. To scared to fight....Because I know that if I went they all would've died trying to protect me....
The apprentice came running back with two other students, each carrying a different bucket. They placed them down the fallen warrior's bed, but I shook my head, two of them were already dead. Only one survived but when i tried to heal him he smacked my hand away, "Don't waste your chakra on me, I won't live."
"I must try."
"NO!" I took a step back, the anger I felt it filling the room, "Tell the Elder.." he coughed up blood, Star sat next to me holding his hand. I could tell that she was on the verge of passing out, but she held her head high. Moron. "Tell the Elder, that the war between the Dense Forest and the Running Stream caused this. Our Clan is stuck in the middle of it all....." and with that he died. I saw Star's and everyone else's eyes start to mist up in the room, where I remained completely emotionless. I mean after all, I was trained as a Shinobi and we Shinobi were only the tools of war....
(Elder POV)
------FLASHBACK START-----------
I meet Artemis only a couple of months ago. I was gathering herbs only a couple of minutes away from camp. I had my apprentice, Star, with me and told her to go and put the herbs we collected into the storage den. As Star made her way back to camp I began ripping moss out until I got a couple of splinters in my hand and began to bleed. Muttering I stood up and saw her standing their, behind a tree, watching me.
-------PAUSE FLASHBACK--------
"What did you do?" Naruto asked interested
"I got ready to beat the shit out of her," I chuckled and Naruto looked at me with wide eyes, "Well I thought she was going to attack me."
---------UN PAUSE FLASHBACK---------
Anyways when I saw her I pulled a kunai out and into a fighting stance. "Come out and fight me, I know your just waiting behind that tree." But instead of flying at me charging, she stepped into the clearing so I could she her, looking down at my hand she stated bluntly, "You're bleeding..."
I snorted loudly, "No shit!"
"She then placed her palm on the earth and a beautiful flower bloomed. It was Marigold, the best herb for cuts and will heal any injury in half the time. The only thing was that they were extremely rare to find in this forest. She picked it up and slowly started to walk towards me, once she handed it to me she then began to leave. "Wait," she turned and loomed at me questioningly, "please let me thank you by letting you stay in my Clan for the night."
She just nodded and before I knew it she and Star were best friends and the Clan took her in as our own.
------FLASHBACK ENDED--------
Naruto stared at me, extremely silent until one of my warriors barged in, almost taking my door off with me. "Idiot what do you think-" he cut me off, "Elder three warriors are extremely wounded as is Star."
My eyes widened, no not Star.... Anyone but her... "Where is Artemis?"
"They are all in Star's hut." and with that I raced out and into my apprentices hut.

Muttering I stood up and saw her standing their, behind a tree, watching me.
-------PAUSE FLASHBACK--------
"What did you do?" Naruto asked interested
"I got ready to beat the shit out of her," I chuckled and Naruto looked at me with wide eyes, "Well I thought she was going to attack me."
---------UN PAUSE FLASHBACK---------
Anyways when I saw her I pulled a kunai out and into a fighting stance. "Come out and fight me, I know your just waiting behind that tree." But instead of flying at me charging, she stepped into the clearing so I could she her, looking down at my hand she stated bluntly, "You're bleeding..."
I snorted loudly, "No shit!"
"She then placed her palm on the earth and a beautiful flower bloomed. It was Marigold, the best herb for cuts and will heal any injury in half the time. The only thing was that they were extremely rare to find in this forest. She picked it up and slowly started to walk towards me, once she handed it to me she then began to leave. "Wait," she turned and loomed at me questioningly, "please let me thank you by letting you stay in my Clan for the night."
She just nodded and before I knew it she and Star were best friends and the Clan took her in as our own.
------FLASHBACK ENDED--------
Naruto stared at me, extremely silent until one of my warriors barged in, almost taking my door off with me. "Idiot what do you think-" he cut me off, "Elder three warriors are extremely wounded as is Star."
My eyes widened, no not Star.... Anyone but her... "Where is Artemis?"
"They are all in Star's hut." and with that I raced out and into my apprentices hut.
