Bird

I never realized how much I loved my family until I was taken away from them. I never realized how important it was to be a kid until I was stripped of my innocence and forced to be something I was not. I never realized how lucky I was to live in a stable home, with a supporting mother and father behind me, until I was chained to a cold, hard basement floor and left there. I never realized that I would want to be back at school until the only thing I needed to learn was how to survive. I never realized how precious life was until I almost breathed my last breath.

Most importantly, I never realized that someone so close to you, someone you trusted, could snap in an instant.

But it happened.

In the blink of an eye, my entire world was turned upside down, all because I put my trust in the wrong hands.

I let my guard down when I was alone and vulnerable.

I let my naivety get the best of me.

I made one horrible decision, and now I’m here.

Alone.

Afraid.

Trapped.

Caged like a bird; as I’ll forever be unless I find my wings.
