Strangers in Love
Smile Sunshine
Three days. That's how long Kellin has been waiting to get a reply to his letter for. At this point he wasn't sure he'd even be getting one in return to the one he sent out in the first place. He'd give it another few days before he wrote up another one to send out to a different letter. Genuinely, he hadn't expected to get one in response to the first one he sent out. Not writing multiple letters had been a better idea in his opinion due to the fact that it would allow him to solely focus on the first person to actually write to him, but he didn't plan on foolishly waiting around for weeks to get a letter in reply. Luckily, patience was a virtue that he had gained over the years, so he wasn't ready to jump ship on this one just yet.
On Tuesday afternoon, Kellin had just gotten home from a day at restocking books at his favorite bookstore. For something he had been doing for so long, he still had some pretty rough days from time to time. Today his boss had misplaced his name tag, so now he had to wear one that belonged to someone that had quit working there a few months ago. According to the tag he wore on his shirt, his new name was 'David'. He scowled at the name, he didn't even look like a David, not to mention how many times he almost corrected someone for calling him David only to realize that it was what he had to go by for now until his boss got him a new tag.
As he picked up the mail, he began to sift through them to see if there was anything worth his interest. He almost passed by a letter that had loopy letters spelling out his name and address, the one in the corner looked familiar but it didn't ring any bells in his mind as to who could be living there. He tossed the rest of the mail onto his table before pulling open his fridge and grabbing a can of Coke. Ripping the envelope apart, he pulled out the letter that was resting inside and unfolded it. There was a moment when he thought his heart had stopped.
He had gotten a reply to his letter?
After reading it once, twice, and even a third time, he realized he had been right. It was a reply he had sent out to that random address he had found. It almost seemed too good to be true. At this point, he didn't even care who could have possibly written it to him, he was just so thrilled to actually have gotten one. He figured it would have taken a few letters before he heard anything in back from someone, but he certainly wasn't about to complain because of it. Leaving the rest of the mail and his can of soda forgotten on the table, he made his way into the living room before curling up on his arm chair making himself comfortable before he started to read over the letter.
Dear Kellinn, There wasn't two n's in his name, but he could let it slide for now.
I won't lie, I was pretty surprised to have gotten a letter from someone in the mail, I haven't received a letter since before my grandmother learned how to work a computer. I'm real sorry to hear about your situation though, I've been in a place like that before myself, and I know it's not easy to be there. So, I figured that the right thing for me to do would to make sure that you weren't forced to do it on your own either. Anytime you feel like you need someone to vent to or just need to have someone there, talk to me. I'll listen. We're friends now.
Also, if you don't mind my asking, what made you want to write a letter to me? I mean, we live in a pretty technology based society, letters are sort of outdated now. I don't mind, just curious.
Take care,
Vic
Kellin laughed softly at the letter before zoning in on his favorite part again.
We're friends now
That line meant just about the world to him. That was all he wanted coming into this, someone he could call a friend and confide in. This guy, Vic he had read, would provide that for him. He couldn't believe his luck! There was no way he could even wait to write his next letter and get a reply in return, this was just way too exciting for him to even withstand. He knew he couldn't portray his full excitement in his letters, he didn't want to scare off his new friend already. Though, he couldn't help but wonder about his new friend, what he was like, what he looked like, and other things. He'd be sure to include some of his questions in his next letter to him.
This was going to be so fantastic. It felt like there was a small place in him that wasn't as empty as it had been just a few moments ago.
