Other Half

September 10, 2012

When Trevor gets home from work, Tyler’s grinning into his dinner. Trevor shoots a look at their mother, who simply shakes her head, shrugging. Tyler makes no attempt to tell them why he’s smiling, so when he and Trevor are washing and drying the pots from dinner, Trevor demands, “What’s wrong with you?”

“What? Nothing. Why would there be something wrong with me?”

Trevor flicks water at his brother as he points at his face. “You’ve been grinning since I got home.”

“Oh, that. Well, I’m excited.”

“For what?” Last Trevor checked it was Monday and Tyler hated Mondays like most people.

“A new kid transferred into my chemistry class today. He’s a sophomore.” Trevor stares at his brother for a moment, blankly. “I think you would be very happy to meet him.”

“What?”

Tyler rolls his eyes. “Nothing. You’ll see.”
